Destro Lock here, found a nice little... thing for Xavius Imp has Dispel, Imp dispel works on the tanks debuff, dispelling it helps the healers manage corruption better, Imp doesn't receive corruption. So I spent most of phase one tabbing back and forth to use the imp dispel on tanks, mainly because our pug's healers were pretty poor at properly managing it.

What I actually liked about the raid, as a whole, is that it actually has a resolution to it (No spoilers for those who care). Most of the other raids are like, 'You beat the final boss!......Good job!" The finale was a nice surprise, and I can't wait to see where they go from here.

I won't tell you the strat in case not knowing it is what makes it fun for you, but if the debuffs is what you find fun it's actually incredibly easy to manage with no thought if you know how to do it right. I was a little disappointed to know that honestly, it seemed like the first time a standard tank-swap fight was really interesting, but they couldn't resist making it simple.

Before casual progress on Emerald Nightmare I last raided Dragon Soul Heroic. With a bunch of RPers, other casuals and me, a PvPer, we managed to down the first boss on the first attempt. I found it very disappointing, since I was expecting we'd spend an hour on it or so. Anyway, we wiped 15 times on Ursoc since people struggled with aiming the charge correctly. With him down, we're now looking at Vaginatree, and I'm moderately excited for the rest.

If you and your guild have been raiding since vanilla and play the game like it's your job then yeah, everything is easy and an unimaginative remake. I think a lot of people would appriciate it if you would be fair as well as honest, something like what you said about Xavius being almost an exact copypaste of Heroic Cho'gall but considering its age and the people who played it it's a fresh fight. Except for the tone that was dripping with "scrubs didn't do Cho'gall heroic, lol" and "let's hope Mythic will be interesting", that's really uncalled for. You're playing with the top 2-5% but your audience is the rest of it, and while I understand a kneejerk reaction of "lol plebs and scrubs all of you", there are a lot of people who are genuinely doing their very best within the limits of their available play time. Just be fair while being honest, that's all I'm asking.

I thought the raid was awesome and every fight has been super fun so far, I think they gave an incredibly biased opinion on this since they are mythic raiders. Everyone seems to forget heroic is the old normal mode, and normal is flex difficulty. It is meant to be easier.

He is being fair and honest. The raids in WoD had way more imaginative fight mechanics and were harder, even on heroic. A lot harder. So far anyway. Most people who have done a ton of raids across many expansions seem to agree that the mechanics are pretty bland in EN compared to other raids. You say that if you've been raiding since vanilla then everything is easy and unimaginative but that isn't true, Preach thought the raids in WoD like BRF were imaginative and interesting and so did most other long term mythic raiders.

moyga You're missing the point. I don't disagree with his assessment of the raid, I disagree with the way it is communicated, which makes a huge difference. The words of professionals has always been the most basic benchmark for comparison, so when Preach says that EN has been an overall disappointment for him, then everyone else who is still working hard to clear it (like those coming back to the game after a long hiatus and actual new people) will feel like idiots, which diminishes every ounce of effort they put into it. Fairness, in this context, means looking at it from a fresh raider's eyes as well as your own. To be clear, I'm fairly certain Preach didn't mean to come across like that (being a helpful gent as far as I understand) and just said what he thought (which is perfectly fine but insufficient in the grand scheme of things).

Khorothis If they react to it that way then they have a bad attitude in my opinion. To me that is like someone who has just started gymnastics, or really any other hobby, looking at someone whose a professional gymnast saying that 'x' exercise is easy and then feeling really bad about themselves and like their efforts are useless because they find 'x' exercise hard. What I mean is, well DUH its easy for them and hard for you, you just started and they are at a much higher level than you. People shouldn't be so ridiculously fragile that they can't handle the fact that people who have been doing something longer are going to find what is hard for them easy. I don't know why people seem to treat raiding so differently to any other kind of hobby or skill. You shouldn't feel shit if you're new at something and not as good as people who are veterans. Preach is right though in saying that normal mode raiding is now easier than it ever has been before in the history of WoW.

New guild for legion currently 5/7 nm raided sat and sun, feel like probably a not so great group of players but enjoying it immensely and feel like at least I'm getting better. Wish we were making a little more progress but enjoy the feel of the place and at the very least feeling challenged even if by the sounds of things we shouldn't be :P

Man, I did it on normal on day 1 in a pure pug through group finder and was so proud of myself. I guess I liked it becaus I haven't been raiding since Wrath. I don't think I'll get any further than normal with pugs though as a guildless player, but that's alright.

I enjoyed the raid. I didn't really expect them to pull out all the stops for the first introduction into Legion's opening tier, but it was definitely solid. Of course, this is still pre-Mythic, but it was still enjoyable enough that I think I'll enjoy EN for it's run.

Hmmm. My experience so far healing on heroic is that some of the bosses do so much damage that it's almost impossible to heal through it. My raid has some pretty low DPS so the fights go on really long (As of right now on Warcraftlogs we are still the 2nd slowest guild on Dragons at 10minutes 8seconds) which means we run into mana issues. We also had to 5 heal that fight (with 16 players....) because the two healers on one side couldn't keep everyone up. I'm not sure if it's the healers who are bad or the DPS. The damage output on my side was also very high and I went oom ~5 minutes into the fight.

I liked the Xavius fight a lot, and I liked Emerald Nightmare on a whole more than I did Highmaul. That might just be because I like the Nightmare lore and design more though. Overall, it was a nice raid to ease things into the next gear. Can't wait for Nighthold.

il'gynoth is not a tree. its not an eye. it is a vagina. A VAG MAN. just look at it... and then it's name is il'GYNOth on top of that. it also says things that could be taken as sexual innuendos. after the phase where you go in, the vagina yells "get out, you are not worthy". at some point the boss said "her heart is a whole, which must be filled" or something to that extent. ....there are various other hints that the game creators definitely intended us to slay a vagina here.

i gotta say preach, ursoc is a good boss, if you dont have the big ilv and dps monsters in your guild. our guild avarage ilv is around 845 i guess, and our dps is around 200-240k, with some below and some higher. we are strugling with the enrage of ursoc on hc currently. to point out that having everyone 250-300k dps rly makes ursoc a joke fight, but before that, its a real progress to achieve

I agree that Highmaul was a much better instance than Emerald Nightmare. Perhaps the more open outdoor raid environment speaks to me as opposed to the oppressive and sort of heavy atmosphere of being stuck in a literal nightmare. The bosses in EN feels a lot less unique to be honest. The one that I found to be the most interesting would be Cenarius and it's take on the Siegecrafter Blackfuse picking ability mechanic. It was a very easy raid in general, but Mythic might just change that of course.

ty! as a tank I agree. sure this raid is not the hardest ever but as a tank I've never had to worry so much about swaps and constant position b4 (granted I last tanked in WotLK) ursoc while doing it as dps is boring, the swap move dance is very fun and w/o proper communication or add-ons is quite hard. keeping movement for roar with out messing up the charge line is also fun and interesting. even just picking up the right adds and managing corruption was interesting for me. unlike a 25 man group DPSer I can't afford to fuck up. if I get MC as a tank it's over. as dps u can litterally lose 1/2 of them and still clutch out the fight. lose one tank and that corruption-horror is going to wipe you. TLDR is that this raid as a tank is a very different experience. At least in my eyes. (currently working thru heroic progression)

As a tank myself I found this raid not that interesting. Ursoc is taunt on one and kite him accordingly, Nythendra is GTFO with the debuff and not waste too much space with it. Il'gynoth is tank the tentacle and the big add when they spawn and be a dps the rest of the time, the spider you just gotta stay together as tanks. Cenarius is tank adds and control the void in p2. Xavius and the dragon council are the most interesting in my opinion. The tank mechanic on the council is basically move a huge ass dragon across the room and take the one from your other tank, and xavius you have to think about who tanks what when. Afterall the dream tank needs to tank the big add or the corruption hits in p1/p2 and they need to manage their healer's level of corruption when they need to be dispelled. That is an incredibly well done fight for a tank, but there are always better or worse fights...

Heroic definitely seemed under-tuned for the gear we had going in, cleared Normal and Heroic in about 6.5 hours with some experience from Alpha/Beta (but it was so buggy). Did the devs miscalculate how much gear we would have from Mythic dungeons and crafting in the first few weeks? Looking forward to Mythic prog this week. Judging by the top race so far, Ursoc isn't the Butcher gear-check some were predicting.

My guild went 6/7 in our first two nights, were having issues with Xavius and people soaking corruption, but some of us took it down yesterday to make some uf is 7/7. I think we'll clear it next week for sure, but I did enjoy the raid. Ursoc may have been a little too easy on normal, and as for comparing it to highmaul.... I liked Xavius but I would say Imperator was definitely a better fight. I myself gave Emerald Nightmare 7/10, and the Guldan tier is gonna be even better Im betting

no one is being condescending and there are teams in Stark that are still progression normal, some that have cleared and are working on heroic and some that have cleared heroic. The fights are not hard, and there is a clear different in skill needed to move from normal to heroic, its only 1 mechanic per fight but its enough to show the difference in difficulty which they talk about.

It's really good to pug right now. Don't be afraid of some of joining discord if people require it and stuff. Going into normal should be a fairly smooth experience, just try to avoid groups that look like low effort is being put in.

Xavius was a weird one. I thought the final boss on heroic was supposed to be about as hard if not even harder than the first boss on mythic. To give a smooth transition for guilds. Xavius being this easy, it felt like we killed him on accident trying to learn the mechanics and fucking up a lot on our first try, surprised me a lot.

yo preach, as a tank doing heroic on this first week, wanted to throw out there that most of the fights were SUPER boring for tanks. Believe it or not, ursoc was a GREAT fight for tanks managing the circles on the floor can be super min max'y and the tank debuffs were also SUPER punishing if you lost track of them. required a lot of concentration from both tanks and really easy to mess up. felt great taking him down from the tank perspective. on the flip side nythendra, dragons, eye/tree, and xavius to a degree were SUPER boring for tanks :/ You and ghosty are both dps, so make sure to consider fights from healing and tank perspective which ursoc was great for!

I've liked most of EmNi. Nythendra and Ursoc were pretty simple and too easy and Tree was a bit frustrating but seems like it's gonna be boring and easy once we get it down to a science, but the other bosses were a lot of fun. I still liked Highmaul more, though, absolutely loved that raid.

I don't think Preach meant to but man, did he come out sounding condescending in this video. As for the raid itself, our casual raiding team cleared it on normal in three nights. It was plenty of fun and I enjoyed almost all the bosses. Back in Cata I didn't get as far as HC Cho'gall nor did I get to down Yogg'saron until after I had downed LK so for me, the mechanics were quite refreshing especially Ilgynoth.

I can see why this raid would be annoying for Hardcore and Vets, but for most Casuals and somewhat decent raiders this was pretty good. I still haven't been bothered to do it yet, but it honestly looks fun excluding Ursoc and the Three Dragons. I think the Suramar raid is gonna be more your cup of tea. From what I saw on the Beta. Very interesting mechanics that I haven't seen at all if not for awhile. Then again I haven't seriously raided since Cata and pretty much ignored Pandaria and Warlords so... WTH do I know?

I love how watching you guys do this raid makes it look so fun and easy but then I see streamers like sodapoppin and lirik and they have soooo much trouble with these bosses to the point where they will be stuck on xavius for 6 hours and spend like 100k gold on potions, food, and repairs and still not down the boss

As someone who joined in MoP. I have this as my absolute favorite raid. Now before you freak out, hear me out on this one. So as Preach said Ill'Gynoth was like a budget Yogg'Saron and Xavius was like HC Cho'gall. Since I joined in MoP I had no previous experience of those two bosses making those entirely new fights for me. Nythendra, yeah pretty boring mechanically and very easy to kill once you get the grip of the fight. Ursoc, I kinda liked it as a healer. The reason being that my guild wasn't amazingly geared when we did it HC and so things like Roaring Cacophany at the later stages really hit like a truck. For Renferal and Cenarius I have the exact same opinions as Preach. Lastly, the dragons of Nightmare. I agree, they're extremely underwhelming and as a healer I had the ResidentSleeper look on my face throughout the majority of the fight. Maybe this raid was aimed more at newer (ish) players who hadn't experienced those fights before.

nah we didn't clear normal in 30 minutes it was more close to an hour but its was really quick we just rushed through the instance one shotting every boss without issue,and because we killed it already on hc there was no need to explain tacs etc we just pulled pretty much right away when we were at the boss

Preach for the love of god can you help the shadow priests out with adding your voice to our cause. I was surprised how easy a lot of these bosses were dying in normal, we had 5 minutes left in our raid night and were like fuck it lets go do an ursoc pull and come back tomorrow, and then ursoc was dead within 5 minutes.

I don't think you can even begin to imagine the number of PuGs dying on the eye, preach. What happens: 1) People deeps anything and everything, no groupings, just as you'd expect. 2) Things therefore die REALLY SLOWLY. 3) Therefore, in the first phase, people are usually hovering 40% 4) Finally, the eye caves, and people rush into the brain room and start deepsing like mad. 5) The brain takes about 60% damage before the timer starts to run out because people don't know what they're doing. 6) 5-6 people die. EVERY FUCKING TIME. 7) Now, with less people alive, the raid can't kill adds fast enough anymore. 8) The entire PuG gets buttfucked by 10 million mind flays. 9) PuG disbands with shouts of "noob healers" and "you guys suck"... Thank god I finally found a guild.

Oh, and this actually happened on Nythendra... One tank didn't know what the hell to do, so he pulled ALL 4 OOZES AT ONCE. People were still being summoned outside. You can imagine the rest. The PuG disbanded before the first boss had even been pulled.

Why are you judging the raid based on it's normal difficulty? Seems a tad strange. Like yea, normal was weirdly easy for this one, but at least judge it based on heroic mechanics and heroic difficulty, thats where the raid really starts anyway.

Our guild started heroic, then last night did a normal run for fun and to bring ungeared people along. On Ursoc, someone pulled about 8 seconds too early, everyone lost their shit, and then we killed him anyway despite most of us having never seen it before. No deaths. wat

Your server has PuGs beating all of normal? I have 11 wipes on Il'gynoth because of PuGs. From what I've seen of the raid so far, it's alright. It's visually stunning, but some fights such as Ursoc aren't too interesting. As someone who can't dedicate time for organized raiding, however, I haven't seen much of the instance yet since PuGs on my server are full of people who put absolutely no thought or care into the fights.

Well people say enhancement should be much higher than elemental. but I have yet to see an enhancement pull decent dps let alone anything spectacular. My guild keeps saying they are op also and I'm like which enhancements are you looking at? we have none except me but it's my off and I don't do that good on it. Only like 150kish in dungeons and most raids I was hitting only 100k with all the movement in alot of the fights. I even switched to my third offspec of elemental and started pulling more dps on cenarius cause of all the movement..
