@@robertreider3119 Copied and pasted from Pet Poison Helpline For milk chocolate, any ingestion of more than 0.5 ounces per pound of body weight may put dogs at risk for chocolate poisoning. Very young, geriatric and animals with underlying disease must be treated more conservatively as they are more at risk for poisoning than healthy adult animals. Due to the large amount of fat in chocolate, some pets may develop pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas) after eating chocolate or baked goods containing chocolate (see fatty foods). part of the problem is that the dog is young but I don't know if the dog is young enough where it would be at a higher risk

minimum the dog is 2years old cause that's how long she has had the dog. Two years old is old enough to have trained the dog not to eat food she didn't give it. Two years old is old enough to not chew on furniture, underwear, or non chew toys. This is why dog owners get a bad rep because people don't train their dogs properly. It grinds my gears.

Story 4: OP is TA because she made a bunch of choices that made it harder for her to get home on time. She didn't give her SIL a heads up on the fact that she won't be able to help cleanup just setup because hubby needs the car in the evening. She also didn't put an alarm on her phone to warn her like 30 mins before she absolutely had to leave to make sure she was on the road and home before the deadline. She AGAIN sabotaged her chances of making it home by taking a route she normally DOESN'T TAKE and lo and behold it was a construction site. I'm thinking her husband has had plenty of experiences where OP has messed up plans by not being mindful of the time or circumstances. It's actually a personality trait - self sabotage. Some peeps out there just can't handle having things go right and they constantly put up obstacles so they can't succeed.

Agreed. When OP mentioned she took a route she normally doesn't use, my first thought was "Then why take it?" and the only answers I could come up with were either OP thought it was a shorter route....or she did it on purpose, consciously or not. I'd honestly like to hear the hubby's side with this one.

Yeah, couples sleeping in separate rooms/beds isn’t always indicative of the quality of their relationship; sometimes, it just means they’re aware of how conflicting their sleep schedules or styles are to each other and the negative effect the conflict could have on their quality of sleep. This awareness is very easy to explain to outsiders as long as you are being a spazz about it.

Story 1 feels like a red flag leading towards a really controlling relationship, too. Like, not only is he waking up ridiculously early, he's waking her up on purpose because he's 'bored.' Sleep deprivation is a tactic commonly used by cults to make it harder for new recruits to think rationally, and if anyone's ever read Taming of the Shrew, it was one of the ways in which Petruchio wore down Katherine (fun fact: That story is NOT an example of a healthy relationship.) And then he gaslights her by calling her 'overdramatic' about losing sleep. DTMFA before he starts trying to control other aspects of your life.

Go to tell the owners and smack, the wife decks the husband and storms out, saying something about divorce. For story six it’s not about the amount of chocolate a dog eats it’s the amount of theobromine in the chocolate as that is toxic for dogs. They gave the dog charcoal to make them throw up the chocolate by itself and the water pouches to help keep them hydrated as they are going to be sick and will be losing lots of fluids. Vets are expensive because you don’t just pay for the medication and care but also time, whoever left the chocolate in the room and left the door open needs to pay some amount of the bill.

His 22 year old sister, unemployed, not a student , living off mom and dad who give her an allowance when she should be paying rent at this point. He doesn’t say that she’s disabled or diagnosed with a condition but simply socially awkward. I think he doesn’t want to take responsibility because she’s leeching and he’s had enough of her whining. It is her dog and her responsibility to keep it safe and she was well aware that there was another guest in the house who may not have known to keep the door closed. It’s conflicting. @@gaxalee7392 i can see where you are coming from but it is not exactly the same imo. Op WAS trying to publicly humiliate him for a thing he does (or rather does not do) in his own living space that does not really affect anyone else that actually lives there, whereas he is commenting on something she is currently doing in public (i.e being a rude guest in front of everyone else that does live there). like... OP decides to buy food on the way, goes to their place and then goes ham on it as soon as she arrives at their place rather than just getting something to eat in the car or by going home first. So while it is a bit rude to comment on it, i do not think the comment is out of place since he is commenting on something that he finds disgusting that she is currently doing at their place while she is a guest (its not that hard to eat in a proper manner if you know people are watching, and it is even worse if you just "randomly" show up at someones place with your food and then starts eating it in such a way at their place). And instead of just saying sorry and slowing down she basically whips back with "oh yeah? but your even worse since you do not clean up your nasty pubes". Also we do not know if this is a regular occurence or not, for all we know she might have done the exact same thing multiple times before and the roommate have simply held their tongue until now aswell. @@Fastdragonstar Oh, I think you might think I’m excusing her, I’m not. However, It is very humiliating, especially for a woman, to be called disgusting regardless of the context. If she can be expected to calmly and politely pull him aside to kindly ask him to clean up after himself in the shower, it’s not unreasonable or unrealistic to expect him to do the same for talking to her about the way she’s eating. Instead, he called her disgusting and expected her to just take it. The host/guest relationship has to be EQUALLY respectful, not one person being a complete ass and the other one taking it out of “courtesy”. Again, I don’t agree with her entitlement about the bathroom but NEVER throw out judgement, especially if it’s harsh or technically unprovoked, if you can’t handle it thrown back. It is an ESH. She is encroaching on the space and area of the boyfriend's roommates and it seems like a healthy discussion of times, places, behavior, and all related subjects would be beneficial. I cook for my household and if one roommate started bringing home someone 3-4 nights a week? Not only would I feel slighted having to feed a +1 I have little association with, I'd feel pretty limited in my ability to take advantage of my own space without offending the new person, who wasn't part of any original agreement of living space. Flip side? The house occupants suck, because they don't show a decency of cleanliness for themselves, nor potential guests, as if that is normal. If you are mature enough to keep your own place, you should be able to maintain it, lest the rats and roaches attempt to do it for you. The boys will be boys attitude about not keeping a space clean is not only gross, but will only do more and more disservice to them going forward.

Story 1: NTA. I’ve a feeling that you keep visiting these people because they are family and you feel guilty for having been nasty during your youth. Get that out of your mind right now. You had a traumatic experience that your parents blew off!! Think about it, could you do this to your children? Now not only did they minimize your pain but doubled down by making your siblings believe that you were overreacting. Then they decided that you simply didn’t exist by planning family trips/gatherings without you . Now they’ve deliberately planned a vacation that you cannot attend. Put it on paper, everything. Empty your head, your heart and your soul into that paper and only stop when you’ve drained it out. You can then tear, burn or even send them this but the actual therapy is to get it out and see for yourself how disturbing your entire family is. Finally, block them and give your full life and energy to the beautiful family you have. Kudos to your amazing husband.

OMG! When my husband and I first started dating, he rented a room in a house with 4 other men. It was gross! When I used the microwave the first (and last) time, I could hear the roaches inside popping. Their kitchen was fairly small, and I once took me 4 hours to clean it! Thank goodness my husband's room and private bathroom were immaculate. 3 month after dating, I got a great job offer in another state, and so he went with me, and we got our own place together. I was so glad to never step foot in that place again. When we would go back to visit, his buddies would invite us over. But, I would tell him to go on wothout me, because I could only imagine how the place looked. However, it was never my place to tell the roommates to clean up after themselves, or how to live, as I did not live there or pay rent. They were very appreciative of the big cleaning I did in the kitchen and common room, so they did try and keep it up, but husband said they failed miserably.

Story 6: So, a rough calculation for too much chocolate for dogs is about 1 ounce per pound. So a single chocolate bar could kill a small dog, but might not even make a large breed sick. But, I'm actually concerned about why the vet would use water pouches?? Milk chocolate has the least cacao in it, and if this is a large dog, at most they would have induced vomiting, used the charcoal, and that's it. What's more, if the dog had been in serious condition, the vet would have kept him overnight. While I do feel like OP is at fault for not offering to pay the bill, and should have told his GF to keep the door closed, something about how the dog was treated seems really fishy to me. I think the vet took advantage, especially if the sister was an emotional mess, they could just say whatever and charge her a high price. Mind you, I had a dog eat rat poison once, left out by my neighbor who was a horrible human that hated animals. Even her vet bill was only around $300, and she had to be kept over many days. She was also huge, a dane mix. Just doesn't seem right to me...

I was looking for something like this!! You’re right that it’s not Op’s house so she doesn’t really get a say, but that doesn’t mean everyone else in the story can be excused. The specific roommate should have kept his opinions about her to himself instead of calling her disgusting if he didn’t want insults lobbed back at him. The bf should have either confronted his gf about her attitude or stuck to what he said he’d do and confront the roommate. The other roommates shouldn’t immediately start in on Op for being critical about someone insulting her(hive mind friendships are almost always toxic af) and trying excuse a, quite frankly, revolting behavior by saying they’re only 21-22 and boys(way to call your whole gender disgusting). I can see your point of view, but I'd ultimately have to go with NTA for refusing to pay. His response was a bit aholish, so I'm tempted to go with everyone sucks for that, but ultimately, it's the sister's fault. She's had a dog for 2 years that she hasn't trained. She's not being a responsible pet owner. My friend trained his dog not to eat food he isn't given for the very reason outlined in the story. My friend's dog will want the chicken nugget, he'll drool at the sight of a nugget, he'll make little whining noises while you eat a nugget in front of him, but he won't take the nugget unless it's given to him. You can leave a plate of them out while you go to the bathroom and he won't take any. He'll just sit by the plate drooling and start begging/whining when you get back.

Story 6 - According to my vets, a small amount of milk chocolate can be safe for dogs, so long as it's a rare treat and ONLY a small amount. The problem here is how much is "a small amount", because to me, a "small" amount is a couple of chocolate buttons, but to OP, a "small" amount could be an entire bag of hershey's kisses. It also depends on the size of the dog, a small dog would need only a tiny amount of chocolate to become seriously ill whereas a larger dog might be fine off the same amount. If Bogo is something along the lines of chihuahua sized, even as little as two single hershey's kisses would be enough to cause serious problems. The sister was very much right to do what she did because she had no way of knowing just how much the dog ate. It might have been fine, but it also might have died, and in this case it is very much a "better safe than sorry" situation. OP is the asshole because not only did he know the dog would go in his room and left chocolate where it could be grabbed, he didn't have the smarts to inform his GF of the door rule. This was his fault. That said, $900 is....it seems a bit far-fetched to have been THAT much, so I think she might've got scammed. I'd be looking into this vet a bit more, as well as the average price of the procedures at other vets.

But his "my-way-or-the-highway" attitude ("You're MY girlfriend, not a housemate; so sleep with me or move back in with your parents") is a huge red flag for a controlling relationship. Run, OP. NTA. Story 3: (Disclaimer: not finished with the story yet, but) YTA. First off, to play devil's advocate, are you sure those are pubic hairs? It could be body hair shedding in the shower, depending on how hairy of a guy roommate is (and I'm guessing you're not looking *that* closely), especially if it's that much EVERY time he showers. Secondly, it's not your house, it's your bf's and his flatmates. They pay rent there, and it sounds like you don't; that means you have no say how they decide to leave the shower. If you have a problem with it, have your bf stay at your place, or go to your own home to shower. ETA lol they pretty much said what I did. Story 4: At first I was leaning towards NTA because the baby shower had been planned for a month, but you told him it was fine when he asked you to be home by seven. While it sucks to cut and run, leaving a mess for SIL to clean...you did help plan and set up. Of all the guests, did no one else volunteer to help? (If so, those are some shitty friends, to come, party, and then leave a pregnant woman with all that work.) Regardless, you should have told your SIL ahead of time that your husband had a prior engagement and that you would need to be home by seven, and then left at a reasonable time, even if the party was still going. (Also, wth kind of baby shower lasts as long as a full workday?! Yikes.) YTA. Story 6: I'm leaning towards ESH. OP obviously holds some resentment towards his sister still living at home rent-free and getting an allowance, and he should have made a more concerted effort to keep his door closed after constant reminders. However...technically it was his gf that left the door open, which he can't be held responsible for. Sometimes, good intentions or not, accidents happen (certainly no one intentionally hurt the pup). That said, this keeps happening! It sounds like every time the sister turns her back for "two minutes," the puppy immediately runs straight for the thing he's NOT supposed to be doing. As a dog owner, it's her responsibility to keep an eye on him, keep him safe...and train him. She's failing at all three, as well-meaning as she is; puppies need more than just love. Finally, the vet sucks. Yes, I'd absolutely have taken the dog to the vet to be on the safe side, but I've never heard of stuffing water packs in the sides (???), and $900.00?! She got scammed.

With the Second Story you're not in the wrong I get the feeling that your parents are the type of people that are not sorry for letting you get traumatized and abused as a child I also get the feeling that the abuse was physical mental and emotional from your Aunt but also psychological and sexual from another relative and they just pretty much rug swept it instead of just doing what's best for you guys. In addition the only reason why your siblings are going off on you is because you're the first one the first one where your spouse is standing up for you and basically calling out your parents on their BS for not protecting you and your siblings. Your siblings want out of the family toxicity and you basically going no contact with your parents in the near future is basically the first sign that they will follow suit. You're not in the wrong and neither is your husband but your siblings are basically saying you're out of line because you're breaking their whole dynamic which in honestly they're basically same to you privately without saying it thank you now I can break free from them. My advice to the original poster continue to keep doing what's best for you and your husband and your new family and also most importantly be there for your sisters when they leave your parents toxicity. And finally do not under any circumstances apologize for your behavior when you were a child you were trying to find a way to cope from the pain and Trauma that you went through and your parents basically didn't do nothing to help you. The only reason why they're holding onto the anger or punishment as they call it for you acting the way you did when you were a teenager is because they don't want to own up to their own failures of failing you as your parents. You have nothing to apologize for you with loss and you'll trying to find your way and in their minds they basically failed you so instead of basically owning up to what they allowed to happen to you on their watch they basically are giving you hell because they don't want to own up and say they messed up and they're willing to do whatever it takes but they don't. Go no contact with them but be there for your sisters when they're ready to leave there

If it was something that genuinely caught my eye, say an origin story comic or a book I’d been meaning to check out for a while, I’d be perfectly willing to pay $5-10 per book, since that would ALREADY be a bargain and it’s likely something other people would either pay a lot more money for elsewhere, or would try and take advantage of the owner by paying next to nothing, like OP. Story 3 Opinion: OP didn't bring up her opinion in front of the other guys until the one guy WHO IS LEAVING THE PUBIC HAIR opened his mouth and insulted her for no reason. Then and only then did OP say anything and that was purely done as a means to defend herself! Is everyone right that OP doesn't live or rent from their and shouldn't complain? Yes! But that dosen't mean the guys get to act like pigs or threat her poorly because they refuse to communicate any issue with her! First off, OP is their guest which means that as hosts it's their duty to at least try to be civil and make OP feel welcome. END. OF. STORY. Secondly, the defense that their 20-21 year old boys doesn't work because once you turn 18 (regardless of gender) you are an adult so you should know that you need to clean up after yourself even if you don't have a guest at your place. Thirdly, if the guys dont like OP being there then they need to stop acting like catty high school girls and say something! OP isn't a mind reader so she can't be expected to know when the guys are upset and want some space from her. Honestly, if I were OP I would break up with that sorry excuse for a boyfriend, if he can't defend his girlfriend when she is suddenly and wrongfully insulted or thinks that his age is an excuse to be a slob then I would seriously be done with him. For the dog eating one... ehhh.... ESH? As a dog owner, it makes sense that I’d take my dog to the vet if I even suspected a life threatening issue. So, your sis is absolutely correct here imo. You did leave the door open, knowing she asked you to take care of it. So, in that, you are at least partially responsible for this, and should pay something. However, as a dog owner myself, I also know it is MY responsibility to keep MY dog safe. I’ve actually worried about this very thing happening and so I trained my dog NOT to eat clothing/toys or accept food outside of her designated areas. My dog has a throw carpet on the floor, I can throw a steak on it and she’ll know it is 100% her eating time. However, if I set the steak down on the floor even an inch away from that carpet, it’ll stay there until it rots. *I* recognized a potential issue and fixed it before my dog ate something bad. The moment my dog started eating my family’s clothing, I think it is up to me, as a responsible dog owner, to train risky behavior out of them. Closing a door is a short term bandaid.

I'm on the fence about the comic book store one. One time I went to a comic book store and they had a pay what you want for a stack area. The stacks were premade and so it was just a mystery pile for the most part. I got one and paid $5. It was a decent pile of 20 "books" variety stuff from super hero to disney shorts. The only thing was that every comic either was a"free comic", came with a kids meal, 2-5 pages folded together, or was 5 pages of comics with 15 pages 30 year old ads. All were looking worst for wear and some were already falling apart. I didn't mind because I wasn't a collector and I like the look of old comics, it just sucks because I actually wanted to be able to read the books without having to hold them together with tape. I also went to a different book store that would have a "free to good homes" table outside the store. I found wonderful copies of books with just library stamps on a few pages but still perfectly readable and could have been sold for $5 a piece if people were interested (it seems lack of interest in the books is what landed them on the shelf). My point is that generally books that are in the "pay what you want" piles are on their last legs and would have either be seen in other stores "free to take" pile or just tossed.

Last story that brother should get a pet gate as they can be used in part for training rather than purely keeping a dog out. Last doggo was good about respecting the gate even if I left the door of it open - he'd groan to get my attention unless he was tired, in which case he'd curl up near my computer chair (so I had a habit of looking down for both him and my cat). Current puppers is still getting the hang of things as he gets excited when I notice him and goes into happy "I want loves/attention" mode, but he's good about returning to outside the gate with a command. Training may still be helpful and could be spun in a more positive way than "your dog's out of control" into a more "Something for you two to do together while able to help him stay safe in the future" and who knows, that could lead to more fun things like agility courses or something. Dogs are smart and many love to learn, just avoid making it sound like a punishment for them both. First story - YEESH I hope OP ran before the lack of sleep lead to bad decisions like staying with that creep. Something tells me anything the guy did was fine in his book, but if OP had tried the same it would've become a "problem."

Story 6: The argument "If she got charged $900 at the vet, it was serious." is a fallacy. Vets in the US charge for just about everything. If you saw the vet, you faced a fee for the vet, the staff, and the building itself (because they have to pay for equipment, supplies, utilities, etc.) Unlike hospitals and clinics, a lot of vets don't take insurance. Even where they do, most pets just aren't covered (as in, the owners don't buy insurance coverage). From what it sounds like, the bill consisted of fees for the pet (things that get factored here are like, the breed of the pet, weight, temperament/behavior, etc.), plus the fees for the vet and the visit itself. It simply isn't true that the cost of the visit validated the visit, itself. Maybe, if insurance for pets was legislated and mandated; maybe, if pets' healthcare was well-regulated and well-established in our society, that argument could be made. In this case, she overreacted (most people do with dogs and chocolate, so it wasn't unreasonable) and it cost her a lot of money. He wasn't TA because he didn't want to pay; he was TA, because he chose to dismiss her feelings and degrade her for someone else's mistake. She did what someone who was panicked would do, and she politely asked for help, because it turned out to be a large bill for a small overreaction. She couldn't expect him to pay, but she could definitely ask, and he should have handled the situation better. Now, he has to decide if he's really willing to damage their relationship over not only not paying her back for his GF's mistake, but also for being an asshole about it.

Thank you, I was hoping some beat me to this. Also, the problem for dogs in chocolate is in the actual cocoa, and so little of that is in milk chocolate most dogs couldn't fit enough in their stomach to be a real danger. The foil the kisses were wrapped in would be potentially dangerous, but even that will pass through most dogs...just watch for sparkly poo for a day or so.

Story 3: I'd say NTA only because the housemate fired the first shot. Also, who leaves several pubic hairs in the shower *every* morning? Does he have a medical condition and that's why everyone is coddling him about it? She didn't demand anything of the housemate, she merely made a comment about how amusing it was that *he'd* call someone else disgusting when he was doing something disgusting every time he showered. But yeah, I agree the other housemates probably don't like her there all the time, and she's TA if she doesn't contribute to any household expenses if she's there so often. Why doesn't her BF stay with her more often instead?

When my dog got into chocolate, the vet induced vomiting. We watched for a few hours to make sure symptoms didn't develop and none did. Didn't cost much at all and the pup recovered fine. So I looked up chocolate poisoning treatment. First they try to remove the chocolate if possible, then they treat the symptoms until the dog recovers. Chalk/charcoal means it was too late to induce vomiting, so they fed the dog charcoal to try to keep any more poison from being absorbed. Water pouches means the dog needed fluid therapy. Chocolate poisoning can cause severe dehydration and symptoms of shock, both of which are treated with fluids. $900 still sounds like a lot to me, so I'm wondering if they also needed to give the dog beta-blockers or some other medication to counter the effect of chocolate poisoning on the heart. It was probably fairly serious.

So in relation to the last story, I have a hard time remembering if I closed the garage when leaving, did I lock my front door, etc. About a month back I saw in a fb thread someone mention how they beep back at their car when they lock it so they have an audio cue that helps them remind they locked it. So I started doing that, 'garage door go brrrrr' for my garage, 'jingle jingle' when I lock my front door, and little stuff like that. It feels silly, but I actually remember closing doors or locking up because I remember my audio cue even if I don't remember doing the action itself. So if you find yourself struggling to remember if you did something or not, try adding an audio cue to help you remember! It will cut down on stress and trips to double check if you did the thing. 😊

I would want to know what I'm being charged for. Not saying she was lying, not at all, something just seems off. If I were the OP, I'd ask to see the bill and maybe speak to the vet. Did she just come in shrieking 'my dog ate chocolate' so they jumped right to the most drastic treatment? Did any of them even ask her 'how much?' Even if the package was shredded she could find the amount somewhere. Still, he should have at least helped pay.

Here is a surprise: the whole chocolate thing is much over stated. It is an allergy, ALLERGY, that the dog either has, it or it doesn't. I've had dogs get into chocolate (cake, cookies, candy, etc) and the dogs never reacted. NEVER. And yes, vets price gauge like mad, especially emergency and late night clinics. I had a dog get ahold of a prescription strength Vit D bottle, chew the top off and eat 2 or3. The vet charged me for care, but also for his having to call the Animal Poison Control Center to the tune of $75.00. I asked why he, a trained veterinarian, didn't know how to treat an ingestion like that. That phone center, BTW, is run by the SPCA and apparently many vets "help out" the SPCA by charging that fee for a totally unneeded call and then donating part of the fee back to them. To this day I will never donate to the SPCA as they are part of the scam. As for the care part, when I took the bill, which was almost $900.00 too, my vet said all they needed to have done was give her charcoal. The rest was padding. He said if it had happened during his normal business hours it would have cost me under $100.00. Same dog, a week later, chewed a remote--well the battery case and ate a battery...or so I thought (Found it later) and the series of X-RAYS and charcoal while they search for the batter they couldn't find because it wasn't in there, cost $200.00.
