I had cancer a couple times and I do find jokes about cancer funny. When you have it, there's no way out. It's totally out of your control, or close to that, whether or not you live or die. I can still easily feel this feeling of just crushing, suffocating fear that I felt the second time I got it because I had to be told that I would most likely die. I've never felt an emotion so strongly and it is so easy for me to slip into that to this day in any context and I have to constantly asess if I'm acting out of fear because it gets me into trouble. The only thing I could do was joke about it with people, but the jokes were not like... telling me it was my fault or that I was a loser for having it. It was like "god loves me the most!" and stuff like that.

As someone diagnosed with npd that is genuinely horrible and I hope her family is able to heal. I hate that people like this are what people think of when npd is mentioned. Not people like my best friend who took his own life after diagnosis because he didn't want to be a burden. Who volunteered every day of his life and who's "little brothers" still put flowers on his grave years later. I hope a good example of npd takes her place on the internet. She was streaming herself sleeping while her dad was in another room scolding her sister, that was the reason if I recall-- there was a whole scene she caused by calling the police saying he was gonna murder her (on stream) and he kicked her out-- fast forward time with more stuff happening, he cancelled her insurance and her mom told her to apply for medicare and she said, "No, medicare's for poor people".
