So many of you have asked me about making BIGGER Entrelac squares. Well, I put my Crochet Head around it and share my math with you in this video. It is easy and works every single time - I promise!
This one is just about the math to make your Horizontal squares bigger or smaller than the typical 5 x 5.
You can now change your Entrelac Square size to anything you want - the math works every time!

10:30 I have made 2 samples and the square does not come out squared. I’s taller than it is wide. It is 1 bar too tall. I am using a hook two sizes larger. Any advice. Rita Tolbert

If I make it 10 bars and 9 rows it is square.

I discovered my mistake. I wanted 10 bars but I was pulling up only 10 loops instead of 11. I kept watching your instructions on the second way and it finally sunk in. Rita Tolbert

I crochet SO loosely that if I go up two full MM(sizes in US terminology can be confusing, giving arbitrary numbers), I have HOLES, lots and lots of holes...so one full MM works for me. Have fun experimenting, to learn your own tension, so you get the look you want. Love this method of figuring, because I want to do a blanket using leftover balls, in tiny squares.Thank you for making this so very clear!

Ciao Bethany! Thank you for your easy to follow tutorials! I had a question about the number of “pull ups”. Here you say to pull up the number of stitches across +1. However in another reversible entrelac video where you do 5 stitches across, you pull up 7 (working the foundation chain). According to the formula in this video, for an 8x8 x16squares, I’ve made a foundation chain of 273. But now I am unsure whether to pull up 8+1 or 8+2? Your help would be greatly appreciated! 🙏🏻

@@ThimbleHooks thank you. I do have 2 questions if that's okay. 1) when you talk about "pulling up" is that how loops to have on hook in each row ? And 2) do you know how to figure the difference in length when each square shrinks the chain? I'm not sure if I asked that right. Example : I'd want a 3 foot long row, I'd have to make chain longer than that right? By how much if I use 5x5 squares? Sorry my brain is out of order sometimes lol. Thank you for all you share. Oh my goodness I’ve been looking at your tutorials on Tunisian crochet off and on along with others, I can do the Entrelac c2c and I want to do the rectangle pattern for my queen size bed but in larger squares and have been battling with how do the math and with your explanation made it so much clearer/ easier. Yes indeed, very simple math for the horizontal! I'm making entrelac crochet in the round and I'm getting befuddled. Have you tried it? I'm hoping your numbers will work for me.

Hi 2L4E! I will put the "in the round" on my short list, but I have never been a big fan of that shape of Entrelac - it just doesn't look right to me. I have a question for you , I would like make a large square entrelac blanket , I starting with a 12 across and 12 up. Could you please tell me how many chains I would need . Quick question, I understand how your formula works but how do you determine how many blocks across you need to fit into the formula. I am wanting 8 x 8 squares and want to make a baby blanket, how do I determine how many blocks I will need to make, also what brand of tunision hook are you using in the video, the hook that has the black end on it...thank you :-)

Hi murphzmom - I didn't see this before, sorry! The simplest thing to do is make 1 square the size you want, measure point to point, and determine how many of those you need to hit the size of baby blanket that yo want. EG, if your square s 2" wide and yo want a 30" wide blanket, you will need to use the math for 15 squares. That should do it for you! As far as the hook - it is a Fash O' Knit 6.5 mm Maple & Ebony Crochet hook that is 7" long. I got it at Tuesday Morning quite some time ago. Looks like their web address is fashoknit.com Bethany
