The cost of traditional education has a very high cost of being wrong. That's why the question and pressure of "getting it right" for "the rest of our life" is such a big thing. Discover through experimentation as nature intended, what we like /don't like. I love the depth of TK's thinking. Prioritize discovery over dogma.

I'd like to share a bit of my story and my experience through seeking out what I want to do with my life. I just turned 30 yo, and as Cliché as it may sound, it made me think and sum up my 20s and realize I am still not in the professional place I wish I was, and it made me even more sad to realize that most of my friends, sometimes younger, were persuing their dreams and becoming what they felt what was meant to be for them. First of all, I now realise that it might not be the case for all of them, and some might be struggling more than they "look"… but if they are in fact happy, then I'm happy for them and it's awesome. Like really. Secondly… I realised something even more important (to me). When I was 17, my mom got even more sick than she ever was before and it got really bad. My parents kept it a secret for a long time and we're not good communicators in our family. Lots of taboos. So this had litterally dropped into my life as a young insecure teenager girl who had to fill in university papers, check "future career choice" cases, and answer lots of existential questions (if that doesn't make sense, I'm french, I'm trying my best to be fluent English). I have struggled so bad through this crises and I was all alone in the big city of Paris I had just moved into as a student. Whatever I was doing, I was continually worried for my parents, concerned about them and suffering a lot. I had tried lots and lots for my mother to get better and realised there was nothing I could do. I could not rely on my parents for any of my own existencial questions they were busy taking care of my mother. It took me 10 years to draw the line between what I could do for them, and take the selfish decision to try and be happy without them. My priorities in life are building a stronger, more honnest and tabooless relationship with a family of my own. And I may not be the photographer, illustrator, barista or whatever other passion I have and that I'd like to be more, but I can safely say that I have true friends that matter so much to me, and a boyfriend I am building such a strong relationship with. I finally realised that making myself sad for not being the professional I want to be is not seeing what I was really busy doing all these years: searching for my own family. You know how most of the time, the answer is right there, underneath your eyes or your feet… you're already two steps into what you want. Sometimes it's just a matter of looking away from what is causing you hurt. And finally facing what you've done best, and do more of it. Do I make sense ? Today I live in tiny studio apartment, it costs me close to nothing per month, which makes any minimum wage worth so much more I can finally save money for treats, projects, tatoos I want and other quirks I'm into. Minimalism has been a true benefit for my everyday life. Living tiny has helped cut off so much stuff, uplifting me like a balloon who got rid of all these bags dragging it below cloud levels. I'm now above those clouds. Still looking for a better job, but not feeling bad about it any more. Thank you for reading me. I hope my story can help and or inspire someone. I'm also interested in feedback. Thank you guys from The Minimalists I love your channel.

I'm Katrina with the wedding question. Took Ryan's advice from the private podcast. On our invite we said, "Your presence is the only gift desired no gifts please." Worked out great because we did a surprise move before the wedding and didn't really have room for gifts in our new place. Thank you!

I like T.K.'s analogy for passion obstacles, or your passion as chasing your dog and coming up to a fence. I have never thought of passion this way, but it makes so much sense. Before I have just given up on my interests if I felt bored or if I wasn't moving forward easily, but this discussion motivates me to move forward with some of my ideas and pursuits despite some big obstacles that have come up for me; such as leaving college senior year, family and health problems. In the meantime in trying to relieve myself of stress and guilt for not finishing projects and goals, I will keep following y'all and watching your podcasts. Thanks guys!

"Santa Claus is coming to town" could be a great horror movie song! Honestly, just imagine this guy dressed up as santa with a creepy santa mask (purge style) going around on a killing spree in a lovely neighbourhood in the winter. Right? Sorry T.K.

This is exactly what I have been feeling this year, getting close to 50. "What am I going to do for the rest of my life". I don't feel I'm where I should be at this age or have anything to fall back on.

Advertisements suck. And it's important to understand that advertising isn’t the same thing as marketing. Though these two terms are often used interchangeably, they are different in practice: theminimalists.com/ads/
