Having just gone through the same learning process, I think a lot of people underestimate the value of this video and the fact you have taken the time to productise a proper pedal setup! Having the option to buy the right thing straight off the shelf is awesome and will save people a lot of headaches! Killer work, love your channel!

Thanks for doing this , I then looked a bit further into it System pressure is a function of 1/pedal pressure typical = 75 lbs 2 / add pedal ratio 3/ plus booster assistance 4/ calculate area of master cyl . = max system pressure . Caliper clamping pressure can then be calculated . Drum brake calculations I suspect are very different .

hi Yup at least some one did some maths . Many brake kits sold in Australia are poorly designed and even illegal . Its very easy to out grow Australia`s tech abilities . Yes bigger area pads , higher friction material , bigger clamping pressure is all good . Discs , high temp material iron , big diameter , high weight are all good features

I love the explanation about pedal pressure ratio and how that force put through the master distributing fluid pressure with small lines pressing a large piston onto a disc........ there's the physics and maths call coming in. Even a bit of trig with pedal design...... I love it...... I'm not that smart to design such things but I love to see how physics and maths comes into engineering something like that........ don't sell yourself short, you are certainly a great engineer in your own right....... Keep doin' what you do....... Keeping the K, T, G model alive........ very sentimental for me cause my first car was an HT with a good ole 186...... I learnt much from taking apart and rebuilding Holden reds.

hi Hella do make stand alone vacuum pumps that DONOT need to be connected to an engine . Aston Martin , Porsche and more use them . Hella Model 5X . Another option to consider .

Hey mate, I started watching this channel just for the monaro factor but now find myself just about to pick up a HG kingy so would just like to thank you for being so informative and pulling me out of the clutches of Hq-z that i have been in for most of my 21 years of life 🤣 Will defiantly go full spud and spend the dollars on your products as they are released

Yes great show Luke. What is the original colour of the Monaro. If it's Spanish Red it would be the same as mine. Bloody Freezing down here in Victoria. Your lucky to get some warm weather.
@motorfab4 жыл бұрын
It was green by the looks of it.

Ok, yes not to many red ones left. I hope the Street Machine guys can get accross the boarder with out 14 day quorentine.

Hi If the stock early monaro had a better pedal ratio therefore the pedal would become easier to operate. So what would happen is u would burn up the stock brakes . This type of brake system was a joke by USA standards . In around `68 Optional 4x discs arrived and then there was a road / track package which made them bigger again . Eg many fullsize had optional 300--305mm disc . Look into the old Bathurst videos many of the Lc Lj Torana had retrofitted vented discs . Holden short changed the ozzy consumer by a large margin in the 60`s eg 2 generation of cars . By the 70`s only one generation . By the time Ozzy GM caught up with the USA ozzy went to Vb commo .

Luke, good to see you trying to expand into the American market. Youv'e got their words and sayings sorted such as "heim" joint, "rotor" and "stop on a dime".

Hi there , Great explanation ! Love the tech bit in the middle. Would not the std 4:1 ratio also be improved by the booster factor ? Is this purely comparing booster type pedal in non booster situation. Also if you went Wilwood calipers, 4 piston per caliper, FC Piston diam 44.5mm x 8, RC 35mmx 8, 25.4 MC, you end up with a very high comparative ratio. Would you need to reduce pedal ratio ?

Great and reasonably easy explanation of the numbers behind your engineering. Thanks for that. Once the punters have accepted and adopted your suggestion on the master cylinder/brake pedal/caliper combo they can jump into the deep end of the "pad and disc" choices. Maybe a topic for another episode, even though it's probably a pandora's box you may not want to open?

Does comparing disc/disc vs disc/drum not work because drums have great braking by self energisation ie wedge effect vs disc being only clamping . or does this not matter when working out hydraulics only ??? So disc/disc vs disc/drum comparison cannot be compared ????

Hey i have a 80 xd and 92 eb. Goes without saying i suppose, that u can apply these brake physics to any older vehicle wirh sub standard brakes. I remember hammering my eb 5.0 wagon on a back straight in the country @100 milw plus to a tee intersection and ending up a good car length into the intersection. Shoulda been @ the pearly gates but dodged a bullet. With experiences like this, i would like some input into improving brakes on these old girls of similar vintage please. Keep up the great channel. Brings back memories of rolling in a mates 327 hk 3 speed man floor shift ( dunno who swaped that box in) back in bastion point in the early 80s. (RESPECT TO Joe Hawk). Pioneer tape player playing tapes like alvin n the chipmunks. Ahh memories....

When I saw all those numbers on the bench and you started going through them all, I definitely found myself a little aroused. That shit is the bomb! How does this equate to required weight/force on the pedal? My mind says that corrected overall ratio with the modified pedal should bring it back in check. Reason I ask is I'd love to do this on my VH build before rego inspection but have been told definitively that 10/10 times the boosterless route fails engineering due to exceeding braking force guidelines. But then I guess the next issue being the engineer also needs to sign off on the pedal also i suppose...
@motorfab4 жыл бұрын
Some of them should be called Mod plate providers, not engineers, because many of them are not engineers. Some of them will not pass non boosted setups, some will, see above as to why that is lol
