Ep 2: MK2 Escort Mexico Rebuild - Duratec Engine Install

Welcome back to the channel! This is ep2 of my rebuild series on my mk2 escort mexico! In this video I install my duratec with some goodies on it inside the bay! also the straight cut type 9 gear & gearbox mount. Tried to put as much info as I could to help someone out!

I really love the way you younger guys are keeping the MK1 & MK2 alive, for us ‘oldies’ back in the 80’s I/we done plenty of Mk1 Mexico rebuilds, to try & even gain the power your achieving from that Zetec lump, we were shoe horning 2.0 pintos with rally or fast road cams, 45 DCOE’s, exhaust mods etc into that little engine bay. Endless summer teenage nights in the 80’s doing so.. I originally started with a Cortina MK2 1500 GT, pre x flow…. If only we had the tech engines from today…back in yesteryear !! Again, thank you sir for keeping the old Fords alive.

Thanks for the comment, really appreciate it! I love old motors, you can just modify, modify & modify! This is my twist on modernising a mk2 but not too much. Obviously where I’m younger I don’t have the nostalgia side of the pintos etc! I think that’s why I sway towards something a little more my era, while still keeping the old school going!

I have and used to own modify mk1 mk2 escorts growing up back in the 80s, with all the fun , but you are better to fit bk original engine back into the Mexico to preserve its value 😉 👍

Did you have to fit a larger transmission tunnel to get the bell housing/gearbox in? I have a Duratec and MX5 5 speed to go into mine.

You don’t need one but it’s defiantly easier. Mx5 box is a lot bigger aswell

Doing something similar with a mk1, wondered why you went for mounting on crossmember rather than chassis?

Hi mate, chassis mount is ment to be a little bit more rougher & was easier for me to buy off shelf seeing as I can’t weld!
