@@marcushayesford I've done away with vvt on my st170 3dr Sierra ... fixed cam timing seems to work pretty well . No bhp figures yet as its not going to be ready until next year... hopefully life won't get in the way and disrupt my plans 😂
@marcushayesford
@marcushayesford 5 жыл бұрын
From what Iv read online I decided that whilst the engine is standard I want to keep the VVT but once you start modifying it and fitting lairy cams etc u may as well get rid of it. :)
@MotorsportElectronics
@MotorsportElectronics 5 жыл бұрын
Timing is 180* out :) Feel free to give us a call - its either leads wrong or you can just add 180 to the trighger offset (either its 75 or 255) and it will go :)
@marcushayesford
@marcushayesford 5 жыл бұрын
The trigger offset was indeed set wrong. I did change the coil settings in MEITE at first (Coil A to Coil B and vice versa) to 'solve' the issue but when I learned about trigger offset I was then able to set the coil settings back to normal and the engine would then run. :)

Nice! Was hoping flames weren't going to spoil your paint. Usually I set 0.0 TPS with throttle blades closed, then open them to idle setting which should then show as 2-4%.once idling, balance/synchronise the T/Bodies. Lot easier to run with exhaust manifold on even if just an old cast one to save the stainless. ( Don't forget to old school heatsink them with wound copper wire). Watch dodgy battery and jumping. Ecu likes nice stable voltage. Fuel tank straps may need rubber under them to prevent fretting on the edges. Love the build so far. Miss my 2.2 MK2 with nitrous after watching your clips.( Sold due to family commitments).

Thanks for the positive comments and thanks for all the advice, really appreciate it! . . . . The flames thankfully didnt ruin the paint, just sooted it up a bit but the engine bay has a good couple of layers of wax proecting it so it wiped straight off. . . . Since this video i have roughly synronised the the itbs and Iv played with the map at low revs/0% throttle to get it to idle better. I dont want to mess around too much because I dont have an afr gauge and I cant leave it running too long without a radiator fiited anyway. Im happy that when the time comes I can at least turn up to the rolling road with an engine that runs. :)

You've probably already sussed this out Mate, but the "oil cooler" that sandwiches between the block and the filter is in fact an "oil heater". Designed to warm the oil/engine up quick cause the zetecs don't warm up quick and they don't work well cold. Bit late I know but I'm working my way through your vids. Keep it up they're great.

Is your sump a Retro Ford Marcus? And is your dipstick a standard length one? My tibe goes into the big wing at the back of the sump, and it's the same height at the top as the standard tube, so my dipstick is too short :-( So I need to either shorten the tube or get a longer dipstick....

heh Marcus,big thumbs up from me.I couldn,t tell you much that would help with your car but a tip on the sticky stuff,try playing with a cut off first,wet everything up with soapy water(like fairy eg)then you can slide it round ect and position it then squeeze the wet out and leave it a couple of days.It,s worked well for me with large decals. I noticed the car needed a womans touch at the end,works every time. cheers.

Just a little background info - that extra plate on top of the inner wing was originally from the 'Type 49' bodyshell used on the original Twin Cams long before 'RS' came into existence. I used to rally a Lotus Cortina MkI then an ex works Twin Cam and then an ex works RS1600. 'Back in the day' once approved you could pop over and buy all your competition parts from Boreham Comps. Department. Handy as I used to live in Hornchurch.
@marcushayesford
@marcushayesford 5 жыл бұрын
Correct!! :) (so i have read on the internet anyway, Im not old enough to actually remember :D ) . . . . My mk1 was originally a 1300E so it didnt have the strut top re-enforcements. The plate on the passenger side of my car was actaully carefully cut off of a genuine mexico inner wing. We drilled loads of holes in it and mig plugged it on and then smoothed it off but left the original spot welds showing. The drivers side one is a pattern panel and I had the chassis number stamped into it and then it was mig plugged on. I then replicated the original spot welds using a hammer and a punch so that it matched the passenger side one.

Marcus where did you get the st170 for Maude , I’m sure it was somewhere in Brentwood Essex , I’m after one and this isn’t far from me, also are you running a RX8 gearbox in this MK1 (ester), I’m trying to do this engine gearbox set up , are you using the RX8 clutch cylinder that’s attached to the outside of the bell housing , and what clutch plate and housing are you running, anyway that’s enough questions, keep the vids coming all the best .
