TheBritlabrat oh hush it, seldom does any fish live in captivity in a mirror environment. Most live live in condition exceeding their natural habitat. In regards to betta yes there are probably some crimes being committed. Note betta territory is .13^3’ up to 3^3’. Basically 1 gallon to 22 gallons depending on how boisterous they are and opportunity. It’s also know many betta choose not to maintain large territory and commonly a few gallons of space. Yes a planted environment is best but these fish are extremely adaptable.
@1014p5 жыл бұрын
Zep Tepi ok I extensively research territory size. Rice patty is among many areas they live if you even looked into it. Yes try can move around and never said they don’t. Also never talked about them fight. Note the territory size I mentions. It’s quite large. A few feet deep is well with 2’ high or wide. Read a bit better next time maybe. Nothing I said was wrong. Also if you look into the reason shipped in tiny bags or the little cups you’ll find your wrong there also. Yes if the staff doesn’t tend to changing out water at least every other day issues will occur. Did a water test experiment to see on that as well. My Petco tends to them with very few losses and the local Petsmart as well.

Pniko Where I am you will see Bettas in tiny little jars in pet stores. Stupid people buy them and leave them in those tiny little jars without heat or natural plants. It is terrible. Would love to see you mimic a rice paddy where many of these fish thrive in human managed conditions. You could add in daphnia, seed shrimps, copepods, malaysian trumpet snails, shrimps, and fresh water clams or mussels.

I just want to say thank you for this!! I recreated this in a 10 gallon and I copied everything. The only thing I did differently was I added the betta and sweet potato the same day but it’s been about a week and the roots are just now starting to grow. And I just added a few neon tetras to the tank because there was a build up of this thin film algae that grew on the top of the tank. And the day after the tank started to clear up. And that same night my little betta made a bubble nest it made me so happy to see him happy. Thank you so much !! Can’t wait to see the next episodes
@someonesomewhere25714 жыл бұрын
Hi! How was your water until the sweet potato roots grew out? I'm worried about ammonia spikes if I do it like your method. I have a few grown and healthy stem plants in my tank, and my betta is coming in a few days, but I think the stem plants may not be established enough in this tank to take care of the water.

@Redwoodrebelgirl the point of the sweet potatoes is that as they grow the roots are sucking up nutrients that algae would use to grow and it is also taking any impurities out of the water. it removes the need for a filter entirely

Thinking back on my childhood, our family fish tank was just a clear box full of plastic and water. THIS. THIS is what having a fish should be like. You're not owning the fish, you're taking care of it and providing for it. This dude spent 20+ days growing the perfect lovely environment for this one fish. I find that so beautiful and profound.

This makes me so happy! They are my favorite fish. I had one a couple years ago named Poseidon. I kept him in a small 5 gallon tank for about 2 years. I used to love to hear him crunch his food when he ate it was so cute. He only lasted me those 2 years. One day he stopped eating and couldn’t pass his food. He was basically constipated. I did so much research to try to save him but it didn’t work in the end. I wish I had the time and patience to do something like this. You’re so smart and this channel is one of my favorites.

that's a very small tank
@Starwolf1306 жыл бұрын
sammmi _kayy it’s a good size for a betta. The tank that’s being used in the video is a 4.5 gallon, and you can obviously see that it’s got lots of space for the lil guy. What would be wrong and a very small tank would be those 1 gallon tanks people put them in.

We mess up a lot, but this environment was completely man made. And that says something for the human race too. We have a tremendous capacity for destruction and waste. But there are many with an incredible drive to help nature flourish. You sound like someone who would love a job in nature conservation. The older I get, the more I enjoy just going out and camping and reconnecting with nature, you know?

There's nothing natural about a fish tank anyway. Bettas are pretty hardy so I'm not sure how a lot of other fish would do since water parameters can fluctuate easily in a "natural" tank

Get rid of your filters and declorinator. You only need potatoes.

Bettas breath from the surface. That's why he kept the duckweed from covering the center. They gulp air.
@rachaelflores38105 жыл бұрын
I start with the filters and stuff, but I'm slowly adding more plants, and plan to expand the tank by removing the center undergravel filter column which is really annoying and takes up too much space. Got plans to gently filter with another method that isnt so huge and making the surface move so much (even now its supposed to be really gentle flow but it's still too much imo). More plants for me! love em
