Follow along in this How-To video as we complete my long overdue Walthers kit for PRR Block and Interlocking Station, modeled after PRR towers, such as the Winslow tower in the middle of the New Jersey Pine Barrens, in operation until 1982. This kit was on the To-Do shelf, with only the walls textured and basement done. I test out rubber paint masking vs. masking tape, best practices for acetate windows, and a little light weathering for the roof. This is the first of several Pennsylvania Railroad structures that are planned, and several stock car builds and weathering episodes for the PRR layout under construction. Walthers Part # 933-2982
The Pennsylvania Railroad was noted for its unique structures and the Walthers Cornerstone HO Scale PRR Block and Interlocking Station captures the family look of the railroad's buildings to a tee. On the Pennsy brick towers were used along the line at busy junctions, interlockings and other block stations. Inside operators shepherded trains through complex trackwork by lining signals and turnouts. These towers were used on railroads affiliated with the Pennsy, successors Penn Central and Amtrak and are extremely similar to towers on other railroads. A few have been preserved by historical groups in the modern era. The PRR Block and Interlocking Station kit features correct Flemish Bond brick walls, concrete foundation and a realistic operator's bay. Use the PRR Block and Interlocking Station as part of a realistic scene alongside other Cornerstone HO Scale railroad buildings.
- Authentic Pennsy design - similar towers used on many roads
- Correct Flemish Bond brick construction, bay window and other details
- Signs for PRR, PRSL, PC, Amtrak and LIRR
- Molded in four colors and includes clear acetate glazing
- The PRR Block and Interlocking Station measures: 2-7/16 x 3-1/8 x 4-7/8" 6.1 x 7.9 x 12.3cm

Hi Michael, may I suggest using Canopy glue to glue your acetate windows on instead of Goo. It dries clear and it will look much cleaner. There is all sort of uses for this glue for modeling. It's one of my go-to's in my glue arsenal.

I will check that out, I tend to make the acetate over-sized so you can't see the acetate, but I know that is not always going to be an option, and I will need to use canopy glue. Thanks man!

Alright I also have to ask what you did to texture the brick mortar. I've brushed on powdered pastel stick, but I'm not sure if I'm satisfied with what I have so far. I haven't dullcoted it yet.

I used thinned paint and then scraped the surface lightly. Scrape too much and the paint gets filled in with plastic. It takes a light touch.

What did you use to fix the ripped up paint from when your removed the liquid masking film? Did you have to get a non-spray version of the RAF dark green?

I used rattle can Tamiya AS-9 Dk. Green (RAF), but since the masking film didn't pull everything off, I used painters tape and sprayed it again. If I need to touch-up any spots further, I spray a little paint in the cap of the spray can and use a brush. That way I know the colors always match, and I have a painted sample in the cap if I want to check it for some other project in the future. FYI - I spend a very long time with painters tape masking the subject, for example, these green trim pieces took well over an hour just to mask perfectly before I started painting. Hope that helps.
