Working from home has a lot of merits including freedom, flexibility and more time with the family. But it often comes with the price of distractions, especially when we don’t set boundaries: kids wanting to play, delivery arriving, a phone call from the other side of the room, a messy kitchen. You name it.
Although most of these can be managed within a few minutes and a clear explanation to the kids, it’s especially tempting to get out our hands on this one thing: clearing clutter.
Organizing your home and decluttering is great but not when we’re supposed to be working!
Thankfully, I learned about the Parkinson’s Law, which changed the way I used my time and led me to discover a weapon to decluttering quickly. It’s made working from home 10x’s more productive than before I started using it- a simple strategy that only uses a tool you might already have in your home.
Find out what it is in today's video. Feel free to use it against other distractions as well (ex. chores, e-mails, phone calls and other personal commitments)
Do you also have a secret weapon for decluttering quickly?

I'm glad that I finally listened to this one. That Parkinson's law is a great tip. I used it to study for and pass an exam for my license. Timer 50 minutes to study then a timed 10 minute break. I did it for 3 days and passed my test. It works. I also know that this works because I am so easily distracted. It would give me a more focused goal that's tangible with a real deadline in real time.

I make a checklist of things I plan to accomplish on a particular day. It give me such a feeling of accomplishment when I strike through a completed task.

That was great advice Patrice, timed tasks helps keep you focused. Not only is it a good idea for tasks like clearing clutter or cleaning tasks it will also work for work activities or reading assignments. I have the Amazon Echo and I can tell it to set a timer for so and so minutes, very convenient.

Mine is : making a huge list of all that I want to do, then selecting a few from it which need to do today.....in a smaller list and yes - tick off what gets done, one by one.

I use the timer on my phone and my computer. I set 30 minute timer on my phone to read. I set a 60 minute timer on my computer, to complete my projects. But I never set a time to clear out the clutter, this is great. Thanks

Nice! I like the Parkinson's Law concept. I usually apply a mental timer, but I think using an actual timer is safer, because sometimes (not often) I go over my desired time frame😀. Great tip! 👍

It's something about carrying around the physical timer and that obnoxious ring too. LOL!

Patrice Washington I've been doing this when my children were toddlers. I don't work from home so clearing the clutter on the phone is used to distract me from starting multiple areas that may need work ! Just mostly help focus on that one spot.
