EP18: How I Found My Purpose When I Thought I Had No Talent

I truly believe in my heart that I was put here on earth to help people understand that becoming wealthy has nothing to do with money but 100% about us and our mindset towards money.
So how did I come to this? How did I find my purpose?
Knowing what you were meant to do in life is a very personal journey and it can take some time. In today's video, I share the 3 tips that helped me find my purpose:
1. I got really clear on my gifts - the one thing that people have complained to me since I was a kid, is actually what I get paid to do now. And that is TALKING. I reflected on the theme of my life and understood that what came naturally to me is a gift that I can use to my advantage.
2. I assessed my skill set - I looked at everything from my previous jobs to volunteer internships including the activities I did high school. Because I didn't limit, I found to my pleasant surprise that the one hotel front desk job I hardly talk about was key to becoming who I am today.
3. I figured out how I could marry the two in the marketplace -
I looked for successful people who had similar gifts and skills as a motivation and guide in finding my own success with my purpose.
I didn't know 10 years ago that I would be here and people usually give up on their journey because they want to know the entire path.
Keep in mind that as you grow and continue your purpose might evolve. You'll acquire new gifts, experiences, and might question yourself again. Just keep doing these exercises and it will definitely give you a good start in always finding your purpose.
Are you struggling with finding your purpose? Or do you already have a good idea? Share with me and the community below or at patricewashington.com

I believe my greatest gift is the gift of authenticity. I have to gift of being myself, being honest, and being able to stand in my truth without fear of how I will be perceived. I also have the gift of leadership and feel as if I can easily lead by example and help others to stand in their own truths as well.

Hi, how are you today. It's been a year since you wrote this message. So I checked you channel but you did not upload one video yet, also, I don't get your channel name. Anyway, I hope you are happy, talking about the lord and supporting people. I found her via Lisa's channel where she did a long interview. Bye and stay blessed!

No college degree, no family, no support, no examples, no network. I am out here trying.........From homeless to $28 an hour for the Gov. I have the gift to gab, I love to talk to people, I love to nurture those who have been where I have and am at now. I have not loaded a video on you tube for 8 years and still manage to have all of my subscribers 30,000 plus.. I have personality, I love to laugh and make others laugh also. Away from You Tube I am an artist, crafter and have a love for second hand clothing... I am good at just about anything I try.... Where I feel my problem is stems from when I was young... My parents didn't care, my family didnt care and always put everything that I tried down.. So here at 45 years old I deal with self esteem and the need for validation from those I love the most... When it doesn't happen I feel that what ever I attempt will fail and I give up. I wait for the praise from my family and they never say anything.....I dont know how to shut that part off... I know I can be successful beyond where I am now....When I figure out how to get there will be worth more than winning the lottery to me. I need to seek validation and appreciation from myself and not others. Thank you for this video. It has made me rethink my entire being and reclaim a starting point that to me is attainable. Small bites will eventually allow me to be full......... God Bless YOU.

One gift that I’ve developed and really enjoyed since I was young was always writing. I loved to write. I used to keep a journal and just write whatever came to mind. I was pretty good at it. I also loved to read out loud and practice my speaking so that I was concise and had a certain flow to it. Writing however was always my favorite. I even got compliments from many different English teachers who all thought I had a special talent. It didn’t really give me a big head howvwer because I knew that writing was something I was good at.

I'm a compassionate person who loves helping those in need, especially children and youth, and inspiring them to be their best version. I have excellent customer service skills and I'm able to make others feel valuable and heard without effort. Hi Patrice, I truly enjoyed your You Tube video on the Steve Harvey Show. I was very encouraged by your presentation on finding my talent. I'm not sure what I am really good at. I know I love to decorate and work with my hands. I am praying for my DIY Craft Business to get off the ground. I will need space to store my supplies and work. I have been taking Craft DIY Classes online for several months. I feel very encouraged, but I desperately need funding to get started. I've made several items as gifts but, I would like to be more proficient and timely with my craft. I admire you so much for finding your gift like Steve Harvey, who is legendary. He is very positive, direct and to the point on his show. He has blessed many people with his talent. I applaud you both as your work your talent to help many people. May God bless you both. Thank you.

54?! My God black don’t crack! Girl you look amazing! I recommend that you read the book The Richest Man Who Ever Lived by Steven K. Scott. Read it and do it! It will bless your life. Also first and for most if you’re a believer as God what it is that he created you for. He knows more than anyone else. When you ask make sure to listen and wait! It will appear clear, in signs, in conversations.... everywhere! In all thy getting get understanding! You got this and your age means nothing! God can and will stop time for you! Go for it. Start moving. It won’t happen unless you move. You put in the faith and move and God will put all the people, places things and resources in your life. Another book I recommend is Catherine Ponders The dynamic Laws of Prosperity. Gods true and living word (The BIBLE: Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth) and those two books along with my faith and actions is blessing my socks off! Go for it! You can do all things except fail! Speak only positivity in your life, guard what you let in your spirit through (conversation, television, radio, internet, people, places.....). Go on a sabbatical clear up all channels, clean up your eating (mainly veggie and 1-2 servings of berries), drink half of your body weight in water, consume your vitamins and rest! You’re blessed now do the work young lady! Love you sis! This one for free! Lol

Davida Singleton Really incredible advice you gave and I totally agree with what you said. I am going to read the books you recommended as soon as I finish what I am currently reading. Deut. 28:8 The Lord God will send a blessing on your barns and on everything you put your hand to. The Lord God will bless you in the land that He is giving you.

Nobody would believe that you're 54, not that it's old. I believe that if travel and exploring new cultures is your passion, a whole new world of possibilities awaits you. You're 54 years going and more than capable of making your dreams come true.

I love your message Patrice.growing up i used sketch alot. I was a spoken word artist in college.but the criticism soon got to me.i would hear things like why do you bother with art, you will live a lifeof poverty. Or 'grow up'. It took a toll on me. I tried to stop but somehow art could not let me go. I created a channel KZbin channel creating hair and makeup looks. Hair has become a page for me to write my poetry. And the face is now a canvas. I started my business mid 2019. And i recently booked my first bride towards the end of 2019. I am excited and overwhelmed. Altough sometimes i second guess myself and delay my progress because of all th negative things i have heard throughout my life.i find strength in listening to people like you who encourage others not to give up. I want to get to a point where i no longer negotiate my happiness, doing what comes naturally to me.without responding to fear.

Thank u. I found u randomly but I say it’s meant to be. I thought before that my purpose will always be the same, so I set a road for me and now I’m stuck. It makes more sense when u said that ur purpose can evolve. I can’t quite figure out what it is yet but I know I’ll figure it out sooner or later. I’m in my life right now that I thought this is what I want to be, what wanna do, and then I got stuck in the middle. Thank u for ur existence. It helps people like me.

Found out during a spiritual gift class at church. My primary gift is Exhortation, second is Service. I am starting to believe my purpose is to become an Advisor of some sort. I don't know the area yet. I love encouraging and uplifting others more through written word or encouraging one on one, not publicly. I'm shy in crowds. So, we shall see. Enjoyed the video.

Thank you Patrice, this is the second time I listen to you in a day, and every sentence you say has meaning to me. I am French, 30, I work 9 to 6 as an account manager in an IT company. I realized last week that "everyone's" goals, were not mine. I saw a pattern with my managers' lifestyles : they earn more and more, so they spend more and more in a higher lifestyle, so they end up needing more and more money to pay for that lifestyle.. This is not what I want to work for. So I thought: what is my purpose? And that is how I found you. I am still working on it, but I really think that I am aiming for a life where I earn a living, security and freedom, by offering my empirical knowledge to people. Life has given me resiliance, self discipline, creation and expression. I want to help others get their life in order, without the struggle I had to get through. I am taking it step by step, following inspiring women like you and your community. Thank you again for sharing your knowledge with all of us.

Talking to my peers always felt so fulfilling and i was always the friend that gave "the best" advice and encouragement. Having that gift to uplift someone else made me a magnet to other successful people or people i look up to. I am currently lost because i don't know what to do next i am afraid. I don't know how to reach out to my community anymore and i dont have anyone encouraging me because i was always that source for everybody.

I know that this is no coincidence that I found your channel and I'm glad I did. love the work you are doing. I have no idea what my talent and/or gifts are. Been praying and asking GOD for so long to show me but I just don't see it. Cooking and keeping a clean house is not a talent but a learned skill. I'm 43, I have an MBA and currently unemployed. I'm so tired of trading time for money. I really want to found out what my gift is and start using it. It's a little difficult trying to go from an employee mindset to an entrepreneur mindset when you don't know what to do. I have thought about becoming a life coach and helping other women or people in general who are around my age and have struggled with their career and getting an education.

I took this class purity with purpose it taught me to learn more about me as the individual as well as my purpose and finally my destiny. Right now!! Your full-time and part- time jobs are controlling almost everybody destint that is very bad. Our heavenly father wants us all to step out on your faith and beliefs. Trust God in everything you do! Like the saying goes "Just Do It"!! I went to the book store one day barnes and noble decided to researched my first name . It it Melodie means " melos ( songs of praise). I was so glad to find this out for me very important. You need to first know who you are love yourself first respect yourself alobg others to respect you. Never lower your standards for anyone. Make sure you pray about your next step from within yourself! Every minute every second every hour is so so very precious don't waste it. Only what you do for Christ Will Last. You may build great cathedrals large or small. You may build skyscrapers gran and tall. You may conquer all the failures of the pass but only what you do for christ will last. Only what you do for him will be counted at the end " Only What You Do For Christ Will Last".

Okay, you got me thinking! Lol. I am glad this came up in my feed just now. I guess what pops into my mind about my life is that I have always been very quiet and reserved. So overall I am quiet. Maybe that translates into being a good listener? And then the other part of that is that I think a lot. I remember reading an old report card that said: She daydreams a lot in class. I still have to mull this over and ponder what it all means. My full time job is taking care of my daughter who is disabled which I enjoy. I currently started my youtube channel as a hobby and I am also enjoying that very much. Thank you for this video. :)

I realized I have deeper things to serve than burgers. I can satisfy people deepest questions about their life ,love life, purpose . It's rewarding..and I can get people to their destinies rather than just an Uber driver to a location. I get to be the an advisor now. I'm paid by the minute and God led me this way..died n met him 28 years ago. Found jesus is real. He said I have work for u to do..sent me back to my revived body 8 hours later..and learned after many years, I'm like a Daniel, in the Bible. He was set over basically people who divine but I get messages for people by Him. I was prepared for this. Love your channel

My purpose has basically always been to encourage motivate and inspire people . I would do this just by simply being myself and living my life. Years ago when I used to give myself birthday parties, people will say I love how you celebrate yourself, I'm gonna celebrate me. people come to my home, they like the way is decorated, they get inspired . They see how I like to travel and just enjoy my life. And people have taken that on as well. So basically I learn my purpose just by the compliments and words that people have spoken to me and how I inspired them to be in their lives.

I am still looking for mine. I study psychology several years cause I wanted to help people get thru a better knowledge of their life. After a while I realize even I was good at analyzing situations and seeing the big picture, I was not good at connecting with people, I was able to feel for others and be really compelled by emotional pain but I was not good at comforting other which is what is really needed to be a therapist. I was more in the academic side of things. So even though I was really good at understanding psychological theory and explaining things being a therapist was not what I really connected with. Finally after a lot of doubts I left that rou. All that always working as an assistant in an office, a job that I like but is not a place where my gifts are in their best service. I started selling women's shoes to make some extra money and I started learning entrepreneur concepts, the business is not really going to a place but a Live it as a learning experience. I have always loved fashion I see it as a form of art but I am not sure if that is the path I want to develop. I think I will listen to this a couple of times. Sometimes the search for the purpose gets exhausting and confusing and it gets me really anxious, so for the moment my purpose is to find peace. Thank u Patrice.

This is an informative, educative and inspiring video. According to my dad, he told me , that my teacher said , I love dressing up, and would wear and show my class mates diff costumes and attires. Naturally, I know that I am very creative and artistic, although I studied Business in university. And my mum, use to tease me, that, apart from talking, what else can I do? Therefore, I think I just need to put my talent together and make the best use of it.

Thank you for this. I’ve been struggling trying to figure out my purpose for years. I have always enjoyed trying to people who are depressed, or suffering with not feeling good enough. I was married to a man who was always struggling with addictions, and I always thought I could save him, until I realized it wasn’t up too me he had to want too. We separated, and he passed away two years ago. I can’t help but feel like I could have done more for him. I feel I should try, and help people struggling with depression, grief, and addictions. Thank you for helping me realize this you are a true blessing. 💜🙏

I just readied your statement and wanted you to know that his addiction and actions can not be placed in your hands. If you did what you could at your level of capacity during this situation, then you did your part. You can only help someone, put it is up to the individual to do the work. I sorry he passed away but please do not think you could have done something more to help. You was there and that was more than enough.

I am good at listening to people talk about their problems and worries. They come to me willingly and say I am good at listening and giving wise advice. How can I make that lucrative? I am 23. I feel and I know I am meant for something great. But I need a mentor. Someone who shows me where to start.

I love what you stand for Patrice Washington, one day we will meet and work together :) I strongly believe my purpose is to help people realise that they are the 'CEO of their lives' as you would put it. I grew up in an unstable, chaotic, violent and stagnant home and me and all my siblings were all affected one way or another. I for some reason noticed I had a level of resilience I could not even explain. I saw people around me blame their actions and their current lives circumstances on others and situations, including myself at some point. I also remember someone close to me not being able to get good jobs because they had a criminal record from years ago. This infuriated me and even more so when I studied Youth Justice at Uni and realised it was the case for sooo many other young people. It grew my passion more so to want to help people realise that they do NOT have to rely on a system to gain control of their lives and actually they could create their own jobs. I'm a self employed Hair Artist (@eahair) and soon to launch my academy (@ea_academy) where I believe God will use me and so many others to push many young people in the hair and beauty industry towards purpose. Our mission is to help build their characters and resilience, educate them in business as well as help them discover their inner creativity. We do this by focusing on Skills training, Mindset perpetration tools and Business lessons [including branding and marketing]. This is the platform God has blessed me with to send out my message, although, I aim to, with the resources that I receive, reach the most disadvantaged young people in society so they also can realise that no matter where they came from, they can still turn their lives around and that their are indeed courageous enough to become the' CEO of their live'. Please put this in your prayers for me that God blesses my mission!

I wasn’t sure what my gift was but I thought it might be giving advice to others. People always seek me for advice. So I asked the two people who know me the best, my husband and best friend of 20+ years. They both said giving advice without me telling them what I was suspecting. They both said I have a way of seeing and analyzing situations and helping others to understand the boundaries they want and need for themselves. My issue is I just don’t know what I can do with that besides helping the circle of people who come to me. I’m open to ideas s 😅

Lol, that was definitely my reviews on my reports as a kid, straight A's but I'd talk too much if engaged lol! But I realize for years I've run away from speaking and even writing, which are the two things that comes naturally to me. I definitely need to reassess my gifts and and narrow down on my purpose in life so I can live it fully for God's glory!

I enjoyed this video. I’ve been trying to figure this out for quite a while. I like you said I had no talents as we see talent. I find that people seem to be drawn to me for council. I spend more time listening to and talking to people about their problems. I often asked why they come to me but eventually I gave in to God is doing something. I’m still not sure how to move that into productivity but I will look into the book you mention. I welcome any suggestions to propel me forward
