I help hubby with heavy work on our acreage - felling and processing trees into firewood, hours using a weedtrimmer, etc. - remodeling our house - putting in and maintaining landscaping. I have my own power tools 💪 Other ladies envy my strength and endurance, but oddly enough none want to give up those carbs...go figure! God bless ❤️🙏❤️

Thanks for that! As a carboholic as you called it in another video, I am one who has constantly justified in vain my carb addictions and my "falling off the wagon" periods. And I have indeed beaten myself up for each and every one of them. My family doesn't get it because they are deep into the carbs and see no problem and wonder why I'm so hard on myself for the "occasional treats". It makes the journey tougher. Not impossible, just a steeper incline.

From the bottom of my heart, Thank you, Dr. Cywes! When I saw this subject of yours, I immediately wanted to watch it. It has helped me so very much. I am newer to low carb lifestyle. (I actually tried Atkins in 2019 for a couple weeks and lost several pounds then gradually stopped Atkins. -🙄) Now, I do well for a few days then I self-sabotage myself by knowingly giving myself permission to have something I should not. I have been continuing on this cycle. So, I needed to get back to basics and listen to every word you had to say. Absorbing it all like a sponge. Lol. Again, thank you! Here’s to a new day, a new opportunity to live the best lifestyle! I also love the idea of sitting down to eat with a knife and a fork that you told us in other videos. That is a powerful method. Usually anything else is either some kind of ‘meal’ I should not eat, or a snack which i know is an emotional event. God bless you and your family!❤ 🍽

When you come from an environment of substance abuse, you sometimes vow to avoid specific substances without realizing that you still learned addicts emotion management strategies and behaviors (the tools they used in their recoveries). I can see that those that loved me really wanted a better life for me by the programs they got me involved in and the environments they put me in, all geared to positively impact the outcome of my life. But I still learned to use food as a coping mechanism. I subconsciously learned that behavior. Dr. Cywes, thank you for bringing this to light. Hi Doc, I'm a retired 58 year old retired military guy with Tricare insurance. Do you accept Tricare? I have had IBD for decades. I need a new approach to treating my IBD and am interested in approaching my therapy for this disease (vs. toxic GI-prescribed meds) with diet. I called your office yesterday and was advised you're now accepting appointments in Mar 2023. This is not soon enough unfortunately--my GI doctor wants to change my biologic meds now. So I feel like access to a competent low-carb doc such as yourself is out-of-reach. There are no such docs here local (Dayton, OHIO). Perhaps you can do a future video on how to access the care you offer and set reasonable expectations for cost, insurance and availability. I don't feel comfortable starting a low-carb, high fat diet without knowing the effects said lifestyle is having on my body's biology. My current doctor is not qualified or trained in this low-carb therapy and is dubious about its value. My GI doctor doesn't even talk food or diet with me---saying food doesn't make a difference with IBD (doesn't cure it). I'm running into walls. I'm sure I'm not alone.

@sandraazucar4934 жыл бұрын
@@nealwhitmore9977 Hi @Neal Whitmore, the numbness and coldness in fingers and toes sound to me (a non-doctor having had this symptom before) like you are running hypothyroid (low thyroid) or possibly low in other vitamins, minerals and electrolytes. This can easily happen when your body is changing on a ketogenic diet. If you can be seen by a doctor, *please do so right away, and request a lab test for thyroid levels*: Free T3, Free T4, and TSH. Free T3 is the active thyroid hormone and should be at least in the middle of the range. TSH should be at the low end of the range. Make sure your iron storage (Ferritin) is not too low. Ferritin should be at least 60-80 to not feel cold and to help your thyroid function well. Due to these difficult economic times, you may not be able to see a doc or get your lab tests done for your thyroid. If that's the case, you would do well to be on a multivitamin and mineral supplement and to have some extra iodine (I take 1 drop of Lugols daily) and selenium (I take 200mg daily) as separate supplements, as almost everyone is too low. These are on Amazon. Also restore your electrolyte levels by adding salt to your water, as most people on a keto diet are salt deficient. Other electrolytes (calcium, magnesium, potassium) may also be low. Good luck and be well!

Heartburn usually means your stomach acid is too low (rather than too high) to handle the food you're eating, so the sphincter doesn't close properly and a bit of acid comes up. Low stomach acid is common for most people. So....try this: 1) Apple Cider Vinegar (1teaspoon in a glass of water) before each meal to stoke your own acid. Alternatively, you may add HCL with Pepsin (1 pill while eating) to add to your stomach acid production. 2) Take an enzyme supplement that covers proteins, carbs and fats. Works for me. 3) If all else fails or if you don't have a gall bladder, add Bile Salts to help with fat digestion. For me, I choose based upon how fatty the protein I eat. I do all three things for a fatty steak, or just 1 & 2 for other protein meals. If I'm still acidic at bedtime, I can take a teaspoon of baking soda in a cup of water, and that'll fix it overnight. Normally that won't be needed.

With all due respect, expecting your wife to fix your plate and serve you at parties isn't taking responsibility for YOUR carb addiction. That shouldn't be her obligation. You talk a lot about personal accountability, but this seems a bit hypocritical.

Yes, but asking an alcoholic to be a bartender is not fair. There are times when we need help. There’s nothing wrong with needing help.
@tubegoob14 жыл бұрын
@@stillwatersfarm8499 You make him out to be the victim and your analogy is wrong. She's serving him. No one forced him to go to a party. He's a grown man. He could have ate at home and stayed clear of the food area. His wife should not have to play his waitress/caregiver. If you invite your spouse to accompany you to an event, she is YOUR guest. She should be enjoying herself, not worrying about your dietary needs. Again, if someone is touting personal accountability, then they should practice what they preach.
@stillwatersfarm84994 жыл бұрын
tubegoob1 I feel like maybe you have never experienced an American Thanksgiving feast? It’s not exactly an event you invite your wife to accompany you to as a guest. It’s a family gathering or close friends. It is planned gluttony of all things carb laden, and rather socially obligated. I will be expected to make sweet potatoes with 4 sticks of butter and 4 cups of sugar. 😁 Most women will be cooking and serving all day, and many men too. The social pressure to consume is huge. I can’t imagine eating before. That would be considered very rude. I’m already planning out keto dishes for this November feast, because it can *completely derail* the diet and set me back months. My husband would totally make me a plate if it would help me. I don’t really think it would work for me though. I have to go in with a plan. The doctor didn’t say she fixes every meal for him. He’s talking about one totally unique meal. I don’t view it as hypocritical at all. I think it is responsible.
@tubegoob14 жыл бұрын
@@stillwatersfarm8499 You know what they say when you assume, right? You make an ASS out of U and ME. I'm an American: I know how Thanksgiving works. I know the difference between having Thanksgiving at home and eating at friends' houses. You don't have to have a traditional Thanksgiving feast. You can always change the menu to suit your dietary needs. It's ALL a matter of the choices you make - you don't have a gun to your head. This discussion STILL comes down to personal responsibility, which is what this guy touts ALL THE TIME. My point, 5 months ago and today, is maybe Dr. Cywes is just a shitty partner. He's a grown man, he can make his own plate, but he shirks that responsibility onto his wife. It's hypocritical to preach about personal responsibility to your audience, then do the opposite in your private life. We'll never agree on this, so please just move on. Good luck with Thanksgiving and all your other ventures.
