The older i get, the more i hate loft micro apartments especially with ladders lol. I'm still nimble but i hate them lol, too much of a hassle. It's a pity that more and more are being built like this instead of simple yet functional like the ones before.

The same with me. I hate them because I could not go down and imagine at night you must go out of the bed because you need to. 😅 So all apartments with loft an only a small ladder are nothing for me.

@@Serviervorschlag- Ye imagine you have an urgent business on the throne in th middle of the night and baam! lol. Nah, the ladders are a no go for sure. I dunno why they keep building places like this, is it really on demand or they just build whatever they can lol?! The ones with the storage steps are fine though and feel more comfortable and make more space too.

I'm well into my 50s, but I love the idea of climbing a ladder to bed...like being in a glorified top bunk 😊

@@Sestra_PriorI'm almost 59 and I have a low loft bed. I don't use the ladder that came with the bed. Instead I use a 3 step foldable ladder. The rungs are wider and give a more secure footing then the supplied ladder. Plus I can position the ladder anywhere against the bed. Most bunks you only have two choices for placement. I've had my bed about a year and a half and I actually love it. 😊

@@LizzieBeezie I have a loft bed and getting up to pee at night isn't really an issue. You can't run to the bathroom, but it's not like I'd be running anyway if I've just woken up in the middle of the night. A loft / bunk / tall bed definitely isn't for everyone, but you get used to it pretty quickly and it's not like a normal bed is risk free as far as getting up to do ur business in the middle of the night is concerned either; one time when my brother got up to pee he half passed out because sometimes when you stand up too quickly (especially after you've been sleeping because your blood pressure is lower) your blood leaves your head, and he smashed his head on the hard ceramic toilet . You could argue that's not a problem if u have a loft bed because you're taking an extra second to navigate out of ur bed 😅 idk if I'll keep the loft bed forever (the previous tenant of my apartment built it), I just wanted to say that, in my experience, acute bathroom visits aren't necessarily an issue.

Not a bad apartment really. The loft space is poor, but would be great for less used item storage. I would turn the desk to face the back window for the light and view, or put some nice thick curtains across the door and window and have the bed there. Not ideal I know, but the desk may be better in that narrow end area. Lovely video Usui as always.

Agree with the desk, it hurts my eyes working long hours if the desk is facing the wall. It's good for eyes to be able to see some view once in a while.

Я тоже бы стол поставил в узком конце комнаты. Под лестницей поставил бы кухонный стол, за которым бы ел. А на чердаке все же спал. Только кондиционер надо было выше ставить, чтобы и на чердаке было бы не жарко, а прохладно.

Usui, are all the apartments in the building micro apartments? Or are they just poorly designed leftover space that has a couple amenities added in order to generate a profit for the owner? You've shown us some apartments that I just can't imagine an architect would proudly say "Yes, I designed this!" American "tiny homes" that have wheels, fit in one parking space and can be towed have much more sensible floorplans, with and without lofts.

Good evening from summery northern Germany. The apartment has more advantages than disadvantages. The modern hotplate and the refrigerator are clear plus points. Your idea for the furniture is clever, but I can think of something better. I would use a futon in the loft space and a combination piece of furniture consisting of a desk with integrated shelves is conceivable for the narrow end of the living space. The rent is acceptable and the proximity to Shinjuku is very practical. Thank you very much for the wonderful video and the wonderful impressions of Shinjuku, dear Usui-san.

A space for a washing machine next to the kitchen provides a worktop. All you need to do is buy a countertop the size of a washing machine. And don't wash your clothes while you're cooking, which has to be done

For such a great location, that's an amazing price! And that's a generously sized fridge for one person. I don't mind the loft - I'd just put a small electric fan up there. I'd put the wardrobe in the narrow bit opposite the bathroom. And I would definitely put a curtain in front of the door! 😅 I like how no neighbors can see directly into the windows (unless they have binoculars, I guess! 😂) The building looks nice too. I would put this in the top 10 at least!

I actually like this apartment personally. It gives a fresh vibe with the light colors and looking out the window you see more of an open area outside with pretty greenery. I like that. I think you could get a “charge fan” for the loft and there you go. Even in my condition I would try to climb AND if you get a small couch, you can fall asleep there on days you don’t want to or cannot climb…I have a loft in my place at one end of my mini home and a smaller couch at the other, so I do what I described above. Also, you can move the ladder and it has a place for it on the wall which it great and opens up the flow of the apartment even more. My kitchen and shower are in the middle/halfway through my mini home as well, like this apartment. I live in a mini home and my house is long like this, so for me it feels like my home, but new, fresher floors… Something about the big window looking out at open space and greenery gives the feeling of being more expansive than it is. When you look out or open the window the eye sees a longer view, which adds to the feeling of more space…Windows in mini homes and apartments make allot of difference and change the mind to feeling more open. 😎 Also, the area in which the apartment is located has allot to do and see and is centrally located to the train station and that makes it easier to to travel to nice and interesting areas that are around the station as well. 😎

1. I wish the ladder hook was on the other side (or maybe used a foldable one?) so you can use the space where you store the ladder 2. What is the point of having a loft when there is no air circulation? Just becomes wasted space/storage 3. They really prioritize having washing machines rather than storage/space 4. I would have space programmed/layout the shower/toilet room or the kitchen in the narrow end part of the room so more space in the front area.

You can make your own air con by putting a portable fan up there, maybe add a wet towel to it and let the towel dry. You'll get a lot of nice cold air. At least that's how we do it in Europe all the time, we have no AC in private homes at all, so we oftentimes have 2 or 3 fans during the summer in the whole flat, plus opening all the windows at night and letting the fresh air flow through the apartment. :) During the day we use shutters to protect the windows (no heat will get into the home and it will stay cool). The portable fans are quite affordable and during winter you can put them away so they won't take up too much space.

The older I get, the more I hate stairs. Ladders? They aren't exactly for everyone. Frosted glass door? Not good. You need a solid door for privacy. Glass is easier to break. The kitchen is good. You even have a little countertop space. Just get a smaller cooktop. Okay spot for the washing machine. You could put a table and chair downstairs under the ladder, you can put a tv on the wall. Bathroom's very small. You could trip over own feet in that tiny space. But you do have toilet paper storage! :) Can make do with the shower. Loft space isn't very large, and the A/C doesn't reach? That'd be a definite no. It'd be best used for storage. Find a way to get a bed downstairs. Or maybe a loft bed? I'd have to give this apartment a "no."
@suburbohemian
@suburbohemian 2 ай бұрын
Frosted glass is better than what I had on my first ever apartment! It was, I suspect, an illegal conversion of the neighboring apartment's master bedroom cus the only door was also the only window, a sliding glass door with a flimsy little screen door for airflow. It was on the second floor so I had more privacy than you'd have thought but I did learn to be more uninhibited some if I wanted natural light during the day time. I still miss that goofy little studio!

I guess one thing I find weird, is that you have visited other micro apartments with ladders and even though I’ve only seen a handful of these so far since I started watching, this is the first episode I know of you mention a fear of heights and wanted to disconnect the ladder from the loft. Even though the loft space was slightly smaller, I didn’t mind it too much, but if you move the ladder out of the way, making the lower level of the apartment seem bigger, you’re only left with just the apartment in and of itself of the lower level, and I still don’t see or envision that much space being available for a bed and or /couch and TV stand/computer desk in what you would consider the main living area. Moving the ladder, keeps you from going up to space or you’re afraid of heights but then you left with just the lower level, I would say no to this place and not necessarily for the reasons I just mentioned, but even though the layout is like some American apartment buildings where it’s extended from front to back instead of being a square, I’m not feeling this one.

In this apartment I would have placed kitchen to the far end of the apartment (in the "bed place"). That single change would allow for many more bed and storage options even if everything else remained the same. Washing machine could either be right next to the entrance door or by the kitchen. You need to find bigger rolls of toilet paper for the loft.

I think this is a very nice and well functional apartment even without the loft. I see the loft as kind of a bonus area. A good place to keep winter things during the summer, summer things during the winter and store extra items. Like musical instruments, music, video games, or other hobbies. I would have liked if there was a place for shoes, but putting in a little shoe rack is simple enough. I would use a folding bed, which opened flat would be a bed at night and by day, partially folded would make it a lounger. And if I needed, I could fold it up and make more room. I like the size of the refrigerator, as I do make a lot of home made meals, just like I like there are 2 burners. There's even counter space big enough to fit a rice cooker.

No storage. Upstairs is nice. Just get a foldable ladder that has wide steps to go up with rails. A wardrobe can go up there in that indented small space and tatami mats in the bedroom with mattress on floor. Fold it up in the day and you have room to read or relax as well. Desk goes where back window is. Great place.

I visited a studio apartment when it was for sale a few years ago. It was small by Australian standards but measured at least 50 square meters, with a full sized bathroom, and a galley kitchen with full sized appliances, and an entire wall of floor to ceiling windows that let in plenty of natural light during the day. And I thought that it must be slightly depressing to live in such a tiny space, until I saw this one…

I think this is something with potential. There is a lot of space between the door and Washing machine spot for a she closet and pantry shelf - for rice cooker/microwave and storage? If you sleep in the loft under the steps is space for a saek and wardrobe, or large storage piece and put the desk at the far end of the apartment. It si not the worst we have seen at all. A young person who doesn't mind the ladder could have a lot of room here.

Ok. Let's create areas. Enter. To the left a tall set of shelves above a long worktop, drawers underneath, including shoe storage near door. Directly in front/ under ladder: bench with shelves above for keys/ backpacks. Bookshelves line wall until ladder. Kitchen: rolling cabinet for additional chopping block/ prep island. Shelves under sink. Sleeping loft? In the alcove: lounge chair and maybe closet. Then again... maybe create hanging closet next to balcony.

OK, bed right inside the entrance as that would not bother me, shelves or cabinet next to the washing machine, small desk down the thin space by the window, loft is extra storage, may a floor chair and tv, but with AC not reaching, probably not. It has toilet paper storage, but doesn't really have a great bathroom sink situation. If allowed, attach a folding table to the wall by the kitchenette. The apartment is at least functional, although I'm not really a fan of the door.

Loft is useless except for storage. I don't like the ladder in this one. But it is in a good position if you leave it out all the time. Main floor for a micro apartment is not bad. Bed next to bathroom is best. Leaves a good amount of space for other things. The entrance should not be glass, but they did include a curtain hanger. An easy fix.

Interesting space. Not my first choice, but I could make it work. Terrible choice of front door material. You'd also need a folding bed, otherwise you can't fully open the bathroom door--one place a sliding door would have been a better choice. As for the hot loft, a fan pointing up to the loft should move the air around and cool things down, provided you let the ac run long enough. And on the topic of loft, it never ceases to amaze me how terrible building code is when it comes to having safe railings on lofts.

Much better with the ladder stored against the wall

Hmmm… no shoe storage provided. Well, you can solve this easily. Nice sized fridge, good exhaust fan. Guess you use the top of your washer as a shelf, it’s a bit tight there. Not much for storage in the kitchen, but you have room for shelving. It’s a small bathroom but you have a toilet paper shelf. Not sure I’d like that ladder either! I don’t care for a hot sleeping space so the loft is out for me, storage only. Rent seems a bit high, think I might pass on this apartment. Thank you for sharing.

Hi Usui, thank you for showing us even an awkward layout. I just wonder why such a narrow space at the end. Even a bed would obstruct the door to the toilet. Sorry, this is a no to me, especially the ladder to the loft space. I hope your next video would be more promising.

Closet with sliding door and compact vanity at the back near the bathroom, working desk and narrow bookshelf in front, sleep at the loft on futon.😊

11:22 😂😂😂😎 I actually likes this apartment, only change I would do is to turn the desk facing the window 🪟 That glass door, I wouldn’t mind if I knew my neighbours , of course a curtain would be attached tho. 😃

Usui, some lofted micro apartments are better than others. This one doesn't seem very appealing to me because of the poor ventilation up in the loft. It looks like the type of place a person might take to live in while they look for a better place. I think with that rent there should be a better bathroom with a tub though it does have some good things, like toilet paper storage. There is room for a clothes washer AND a fridge, that's good, and I like the drying rack over the sink but there isn't real kitchen storage or working space. I think this place gives a good impression but would not be a nice place to live.

Not too bad, loft definitely for storage/closet only, a desk+library/shelf with show space under and maybe coat hangers on the side, I would put the bed in the narrow corridor

If you put the bed in the place you suggested in the video, can the door to the bathroom be fully open ?

I like this one. I would switch the bed and desk, from the way you set it up and would hang a curtain over that glass door. I don't understand the glass door to begin with. : /

Hi Usui san, It’is a beautiful little apartment, and I love loft space but it’s impossible to have a ladder without safety in the middle of principal room: Because you don’t have choice to go to bed!No no no😀🌞 Take care of you and have a good day🌞

I'd definitely use the loft for sleeping so I could have a little living room area on the main floor. My real concern is that there is no food storage except for the refrigerator.b🤷‍♀️

The placement of the AC makes the loft space uninhabitable. No window either 🥵

This comes with toilet paper storage, a dish rack over the sink and space to add shelving to house appliances like a rice cooker and microwave and best of all, the loft isn't slanted so no daily concussion when I wake up. I don't mind it, I'd just get a futton and sleep on the skinny side, a desk by the door and the loft as extra storage space if I need it ❤❤🇰🇪
