In this Poddy, Benji talks with musician and fellow surfer, Perry Farrell. They talk about Perry's beginnings as a jewelry designer and wrestler in New York, as well as how family ties with the mob and a promised surf trip brought Perry out to California. Later, Etty Farrell joins in and talks about her own musical career as well as what it's like to work alongside Perry in their musical endeavors.

I rarely comment but if it will help get more eyes on this channel it's worth it. My interest in Perry Farrell is mostly connected to early Jane's Addiction and Lollapalooza. What made this interview/conversation so intriguing was that very little of it was about music. I came away thinking of Perry less as a rock star and more as a passionate human who loves creating and being around art and beauty.

Great interview! Never heard Perry go into so much detail about his teenage years. I live in Encinitas, so I’m stoked to hear Perry lived in the area for a hot minute 👍 I love it here too, Perry!

Duuuude...Great stuff! Just saw this channel for the first time looking at the new Porno For Pyros live shows and this popped up. Best interview with Perry out there. Thanks man. And thanks Perry. Can't say enough about what he's meant to me. Had a high school buddy here in Illinois (circa 1989) that went out to visit family in LA for a couple weeks and, when he came back, literally ALL he could talk about was Jane's Addiction and how there was nothing like them. Heard them then for the first time and, thank God...saved from the horrible fate of not being exposed to music that actually mattered and resonated on a level beyond superficial b.s. that we were all drowning in then. Changed the course of everything for me...(along with the psychedelic journeys lol)..thank you

Omg!!! I was at the 'Relapse' tour also! Not in San Diego but in Mesa, AZ at the Mesa Ampitheatre (Dec 1997). Two stages also. Flea on bass!! I will never forget that night. There were 7 planets in line on that night and you could see them at different points during the sunset into the evening. Beautiful show, very cosmic and mystical night and Perry & Jane's were the MCs of one of the most amazing nights I've experienced. Really resonated with me you speaking about all the emotions surrounding the loss of your great friend Todd. Sounds like an amazing dude. I carry my lost brethren with me every day and I feel them still

Awesome interview. I seen Porno for Pyros last summer in Daytona. Also I remember those days of going to Sebastian Inlet/Spanny house epic waves before they re-did the jetty but perfect A-Frames that everyone in Florida traveled for.

When I heard how much royalties Perry claimed for Janes, it made me like him less for his greed and narcissism.

That greedy wife of his, probably behind it. She completely has run his life since they met. She even worked her way into their performances. It’s like she thinks of herself as a member of whatever band he fronts…..can’t stand that fake b****.

Same. That's why when he talks about capitalism and corporate greed, I can't help but roll my eyes. He loves money just as much as the next guy. Don't get me wrong-I still love the guy. He can just bit a bit of a hypocrite at times.

In the video for Stop they filmed it at a ski resort in the San Bernardino mountains near L..A. he rented a Ferrari to drive up there which I guess which broke down while driving up there. Hearing that car choice in 1990 had me raise my eyebrows a bit, capitalistic red flag 😂

@@framboise5326 but perry didn’t write most of the music. a lot of the riffs and hooks , and many complete songs, were written by eric the original bass player. the other musicians contributed a lot to these songs. perry did write some tunes but it was mostly vision, lyric, and vocal he was responsible for. I wouldn’t even be upset if he got a bigger percentage. Janes was his vision. But over 70% or whatever it was, is pure greed.

Jesus, the audio on this is rough. The microphones are way too sensitive and pick up every little bump. It's too distracting to listen to.

Cannot believe Perry is 63 ! Where did the time go. Not really liked anything after Ritual and still prefer Nothing’s Shocking as an album but JA and Perry were a massive influence on me as a goth in the late 80s ( although JA were not goth they brought together a really diverse following at their gigs). Cannot believe right wing prudish America made the band hide his album covers due to Perry’s “offensive” nude sculptures ….not even naked people - sculptures ! Utterly Pathetic / anti art and creativity. Thanks for all the music, excitement and pure energy and creativity Perry et al …..utterly amazing in the late 80s early 90s. Great days ! 😃
