When you get finished with the renovations, you should build a Bat Box or Bat House close to the cabin or pond. Bats eat thousands of mosquitoes and other bugs.

Kevin, build yourself some bat houses! Really easy and fun to put together, something you and your daughter could do for a fun Halloween episode. It's great for the bats, and excellent for keeping mosquitos down.

Just remembering past videos when someone is cooking or hunting guest come over and always flock to the kitchen area. It makes sense for drop in guest and gathering to have the kitchen in the large room. swap the kitchen to the NEW area and build a cook/prep island. Make the old part all sleeping and gear storage, gun racks, shoe racks, coat hooks and such. move the fire place to the new room and just 12v fan or single duct for heat from the large heat area to the sleep cabin. just my thoughts

Have to agree, move the kitchen so the addition functions as a great room/kitchen combo. It’s the best use of space even though it’ll be a pain to move. You won’t regret it for the many years that you & yours enjoy a well organized cabin floor plan.
@teresajames59933 ай бұрын
Your idea is better than Chris’s. Definitely move the kitchen to the big side and move the bathroom door over so you can put in something in the corner. All sleeping in the one side makes sense. As who cares about separate bedrooms in a cabin? Window wall looks great and that big deck will be fab. ❤🎉

Merrell…. Kevin, I’ve worn Merrell shoes for 30 years and they’ve never failed like your Keen shoes. Your new Merrell’s are what I wear and have worn versions of that shoe for those 30 yrs. They used to be all leather in the 90’s and have changed in like the last 20 and added more man made materials. Still my go to shoe or boots. I’ve got like 6 pairs of Merrell boots and shoes including a pair of Merrell super comp telemark ski boots form that late 90’s era. Good luck with the shoes. Appreciate your brother Chris’s input. But-I like your idea of moving the kitchen to the new addition, and putting that door near exit/bathroom door on the right side of the build. Keeps the dead spaces together, leaves more 🤗continuous wall for kitchen appliances & prep areas. 🙏
@stevenfaber38963 ай бұрын
every kitchen sink needs a window. Take the sink side and move it to angle so your back is to the door in the current window location, door will open to the washroom door side, so you can see the nice view out the front windows from this episode. Move the other side of the kitchen to behind the door to make your area work triangle. you can add the fridge on as a nice anchor point in the middle of the room facing inward towards the window also so it throws light around, and you get a cool spot for stickers along the whole side. Then, pull out couch and a few scattered chairs with the old school square cushions so they can double as kid bedding in a u shape surrounding the stove on the far wall, so it heats up the coldest air first coming from that outside wall, and you should be able to just keep the door open during use and have a nice airflow through the whole space. Since you aren't planning on having a door off the addition in the front (for now), a very easy solution is just to have a mudroom/office for the original kitchen space, with all the hanging TWB wanted, and then additional bedding is brought in when needed and that is the additional sleeping quarters. Might I also suggest hammocks with sleeping bags and just have crosshatched hooks at different heights, etc.

Really good video Kevin! The way you used the hockey pucks, very cool man, thinking out of the box! Man, you do go through some shoes! I thought Keens were pretty good as are Merrial's. I have tried both. I actually prefer Skechers Relaxed fit Air-cooled Memory foam and waterproof boots. They go above your ankle and take a lot of abuse, I think. They seem to last a long time and wear well. Although you do quite a bit more than I did by far. A pair lasted about 3 years doing outside work, my tractor things like that. I like how big the deck looks and the cabin is starting to look good, taking shape. Looks like you got a lot of garage doors, sure you will use those! Really good job on the windows man. I learn a lot watching what you do! I think the plans you have sound good for the cabin. I see Chris's side but having the area for sleeping is a good idea and the kitchen and social area in the new part your building staying with the plan you have for the washroom and keeping the water warm and not freezing! Look forward to your next video. Take care.

Favorite shoes: Still own three pair of german Meindl's for more serious hiking. The oldest are 35 years old and still going strong. Then IMHO you can't go wrong with Timberland boots, also lasting decades. Three years ago I bought another pair of Merrell's and like them a lot. Use them daily, so couple of months ago I went to the store to see I could buy another pair of the same model. The guy goes to the back and returns with the message "I've only two pairs left, one size 7 and the other 9.5". Lucky me, because my old ones were also size 9.5 !! I bought that pair without even fitting them :-).

Move the door to the bathroom 16 inches to the right, that wall is just pretend. put the sink in the corner to keep all your plumbing near the ground tank. You have plenty of separate buildings for those who require private sleeping quarters. I say make the new addition the lodge room or call it the public space, ie, kitchen, dining, living, bathroom/washroom. make the other old cabin area sleeping and a desk for journal writing, phones, etc. Just an opinion from someone who spends alot of time with large groups of people for a over a week.

Put the kitchen on the back wall of the new space. Then the shared wall will have the water service in it. Or move the door to the center and put the kitchen backed to the interior wall. If you're removing the siding between the two areas install a vent so that heat can travel.

Peninsula or island, whatever your preference to make enough room for cooking, and make it wide enough for the room side to have stools for eating at the counter. can still have a table and chairs for dining, but that wide counter is great for many working uses. also lets you ad things like a dishwasher or under cabinet fridge, extra storage, etc. trust me, very good idea. soap stone top if you can scrounge it.

Work shoes with steel toes are built foor safety, the good ones have foot supportgs, and the materials are tough and resistant to weather, oil, and chemicals.The ankle height boots also have ankle supports too. They're a little more expensive than the work shoes without the steel toes but well worth that investment.
