Really really nice install! Waiting on mine to arrive on Monday, can't wait to convert my old bike here so now I'm scrolling through KZbin watching every install video I can :) Brilliant idea with the jubilee clips for the mounting in lieu of a hole in the frame!

Love how you shorten the wires. No one else seems to do that and makes it look much cleaner!

Thank you! Yes I totally agree. The motors come with such long wires to begin with, you end up with an extra 2 feet sometimes if you don't shorten. Appreciate the kind words.

Nice job on the install and retaining the ground clearance most bikes lose with the tsfz2. I'm doing a dahon now and also install it the same way.

Nice clean build. Hose clamps a must with Tongsheng mounts if you're not using the 2nd mounting bracket. For folding bikes with hinge by water bottle holes, use aluminum square tubing as a riser for Battery mounting to clear the hinge bump. Depending on location of water bottle holes, you may need a Rivnut for Battery to mount better - OR - Ali Express sells $15 battery mount adapter plates which should work. I did a Bafang BBS02 for higher speed and programmed Pedal Assist 1 at 5% so it's slow around pedestrians. PAS 5 is 100% and 20+ mph fast. To get that fast with a Tongsheng, you need A 52 tooth front chaining and lots of pedalling effort. I used a Zizzo Folder on my conversion. A folding ebike is nice because you don't need a bike rack to transport it in a car. Also this bike is much lighter than the 20" fat tire folders - Lectric XP weighs about 70 lbs.

Seems like the bottom bracket axle is off-center because the right side crank arm sits further out than the left side crank arm.

@5:30 very important step putting the thread lock. I didn't and after about 300 kms the setup developed a squeaking noise, while pedaling with the motor engaging (pedaling with no assist was surprisingly quiet). I checked and sure enough, the lock nut and the two M5 bolts were loose. Locktited them and now everything's fine. The only difference is that I've use a LOT of it on the lock nut :). That being said, maybe it is a good idea to run the setup for a while to have everything settle and then loctite and tighten.
@ElectricBikeLaboratory
@ElectricBikeLaboratory 2 жыл бұрын
A great point! Yes you're right it is certainly critical, one of the biggest issues we've had is having these motors come loose (usually weeks or months down the road when we first started installing them). Keeping them tight is paramount! You may be on to something with installing it, letting everything settle, and then going back over with Loctite. Thanks for the great comment! Cheers!

@ElectricBikeLaboratory
@ElectricBikeLaboratory 2 жыл бұрын
@@ioandragulescu6063 Yes, you got it. They lost a lawsuit to Bafang and have had to stop selling the motor on all major platforms, Tongsheng has taken it off their website, most vendors have stopped listing them, it looks like they are no longer being produced. Sad! Because I'm not aware of any other fair priced torque sensing mid drive that fits into a standard bottom bracket :(

Great video. Why didn't you put the battery at the back? It would be great to see it folded after the electric install
@ElectricBikeLaboratory
@ElectricBikeLaboratory Жыл бұрын
Yes great point, a battery on the rear rack makes it more vulnerable to tipping over and then the battery can get damaged if this happens. Centrally mounting is better for center of gravity and "polar moment of intertia" ie makes the bike easier to handle when the weight is centered vs at the back. Appreciate your comment!

I’d be careful, that Sachs 3 speed rear hub on this bike is not made for the kind of torque you could generate with that motor while pedaling up hill. Since these hubs were long since discontinued, finding replacement parts are really almost impossible. So, just because you can add a motor, it is not always a good idea unless you are also upgrading the rest of the drivetrain.
@ElectricBikeLaboratory
@ElectricBikeLaboratory 8 ай бұрын
The customers so far have had a few thousand kilometers of riding with the motors and no issues. The motor is not a very powerful motor, so its not delivering excessive torque to the drivetrain. About as powerful as a really strong person doing the pedalling. But I totally agree with your comments, definitely good to be careful not to destroy a drivetrain by adding a motor!

@ElectricBikeLaboratory

For a mid drive I would recommend at least 500W, but more is definitely better. Keep an eye out for a new mid drive motor coming from TOSeven , it will be torque sensing, affordable and will give the power you're looking for!

@@ElectricBikeLaboratory Just looked into To7. Early reviews don't seem to justify the price increase even though To7 claims it's an improved version of TSDZ2. I also don't need more than 750W for my commuter road bike... too much stop and go traffic.
