In this episode we talk about the difference between series and parallel pedal board routing and give you audio examples and graphics to show you the difference. If that doesn't get your pumped up, nothing will.
We then talk about Kill Dry and how that can be used in a parallel system to enhance amp separation.
Lastly, we are using a Goodwood Audio Custom Junction for instant changes between series and parallel routing in this video. If this is something you need in your life, send us an email at info@goodwoodaudio.com or goodwoodaudio.com/contact-goo...

@@GoodwoodAudio Oops there was one more question. I never understood the advantage of Delay and Reverb running parallel or why it was worth $$. Presets in my AX8 can arrange virtual pedals in parallel. What other types effects, if any IYO, benefit from running in parallel?
@GoodwoodAudio
@GoodwoodAudio 2 жыл бұрын
@@arnieus866 good question. Delay and reverb are the most noticeable. Basically any effect that can be used with Kill dry can be run in parallel. Any wet effect, sometimes modulation is run in parallel as well. The more 'dry' an effect lets through though (chorus as an example can let dry through depending on the type you have) the more issues you will run into. With this stuff I always recommend experimenting with series / parallel in the mod/wet section.

@@GoodwoodAudio Do pedals with both Reverb and Delay run them in parallel? e.g. EarthQuaker Avalanche Run™ Stereo Reverb and Delay with Tap Tempo.

@@arnieus866 I would give it a try and see what you think, yes. The main thing though is that Kill Dry. Just make sure the effect has that as an option first.

I'm using the "Tri Parallel Mixer" from Electro Harmonix, my question is, can I I connect my 3 stereo delay, chorus and reverb through that mixer to keep the signal in stereo and in parallel?
@J_IanCastle

I play through a Fender PRRI. Can I set up to have parallel delay and reverb, then have separate dirt in series and then link them up again by line mixer to all go in to the front of the amp? I just don’t want 2 amps, but I want reverb and delay to be more clear and defined because running all my effects in series gets as bit muddy and my picking/guitar dynamics are lessened. Or maybe can I run my dirt into the signal splitter and then just split the delay and reverb and send it all to the front of the amp?

You can definitely do this yes. We build boxes like this for our customers. Generally they have a dedicated dry and wet output (in this case you wouldn't need the dry output) and then you can send dry to either the wet output (where it is first mixed with the wet and then sent to the amp) OR to the dry output (for a two amp setup). The main thing I recommend here is making sure your wet effects can do kill dry and that your dry signal can be muted (if you're into ambient sounds). Other than that, you've explained it all correctly!

In the Wet section , what type of Line Mixer are we talking about ? Could you give some examples please . . .
@GoodwoodAudio
@GoodwoodAudio 2 жыл бұрын
You could use a mono line mixer (Red Panda makes one with level control). RJM Music used to make the mini line mixer which was stereo or mono with a dry thru (amazing), but it's not being made anymore. We often make line mixers custom for different boards as well! I know old blood noise also makes a mixer with a few extra options (mono) as well which is a good product as well.

Thanks Grant. What specs would you recommend for wet amps in a WDW rig? I’ve assumed that a clean amp would be best so you don’t add any OD, basically just reamping the dry sound, and a neutral tone so as not to colour the wet signal (colour comes from the dry amp/pedals). Also the same or very similar amps for left and right in order to have a balanced delay sound. A stereo guitar amp head with two ins and outs might be nice.

as with everything... everyone will have their own thoughts and opinions. The thing to remember is all amps (in the configuration I outlined in this vid) will see drive. So making sure all 3 amps can handle pedals well is a must. I do like the idea of L/R amps being similar and the dry amp being a bit different (fender deluxe for L/R and a vox for dry could be cool). My absolute favourite for portability though is amp sim on wet and a tube amp on dry. I'll touch on this in the last vid of this series!

Wouldn't it be more correct to run LINE OUT signal from DRY amp to WET effects instead of splitting the signal before the DRY amp? Maybe you can explain the difference?
@GoodwoodAudio
@GoodwoodAudio Жыл бұрын
Pros and cons. Line out can be really handy. You get some characteristics of the dry amp sent to the wet section (could be good or bad). You get a strong signal with the line out as well. Downside though, you can't mute your dry amp. No ambient sounds. We opt to split before the dry amp to give more control over the rig / separate amps. Some people would say we're crazy... I beg to differ. haha. Just in case there wasn't enough confusion in this industry already...

How about the dry signal and reverb only on the delay repeats into a mono amp? 🙂Maybe you've covered that on another episode...I have a solution with some of my old gear on hand.
@GoodwoodAudio
@GoodwoodAudio 2 жыл бұрын
There are a ton of variations you could do here, but yes, you could do reverb on delay repeats only and a separate dry amp. It would be slightly different results, but if it works for you - awesome!

I'd like to try my Timeline and Source audio collider kill dryd in parallel would your Underfacer be a good candidate for this
@GoodwoodAudio
@GoodwoodAudio 3 ай бұрын
Ideally you'd want a line mixer. Underfacer (versions after 2019) could mix those signals down, but it's not the ideal box for it. Ideally you'd get a stereo line mixer (RJM makes a good one) and then run that output into Underfacer.

Can this do what the old blood noise signal blender does ? Looking for the ability to do parallel effects - mainly using two looper pedals that don’t affect each other -
@GoodwoodAudio
@GoodwoodAudio 4 жыл бұрын
Ya, you could run two stereo loopers in parallel with this. If you're going to leave them in parallel all the time and already own a splitter, it might be worth your while to stick with the signal blender, but if you're going to want to experiment with both, I'd go for this one.

Can you run a stereo setup with parallel wet fx? Or does it have to be WDW
@GoodwoodAudio
@GoodwoodAudio 3 жыл бұрын
You can! You'll just need to run a parallel dry signal as well and mix it in AFTER the wet effects in both left and right outputs.

@@GoodwoodAudio I have the RJM Mastermind PBC btw.
@GoodwoodAudio
@GoodwoodAudio 3 жыл бұрын
@@leadsforthelord89 Assuming you have the PBC10 (not the 6x) you still want kill dry on the delay/verb, but you want to leave the dry thru (on the PBC) turned on. This way your wet effects still get separation without doubling up the dry signal and you can still mute the dry on the PBC whenever you need to to get wet only.
