Series or Parallel - Can you tell the difference?

Every week I talk to people about the pros and cons of series and parallel rigs. I truly believe that both serve a great purpose and depending on where you play, the style you prefer, what gear and lines are available that one option is not better than the other. They both have their place.
But let's put all that aside for a minute and listen to the difference between the two. Which one sounds better?

I think so it's more than semantics, it matters very much depending on venue or personally, the effects being used.

Can I use my BOSS LS2 as the “mixer” for parallel? And would my TC electronic mimic work as the splitter?

LS2 - I don't think so, but I haven't tested, I could be wrong. You could use Mimic as a splitter, yes. Depends if you want the effect on / off though!

Interested in trying this out …for no reason than I’m curious. When it comes to the split, does a y cable suffice. I have a cheap Behringer line mixer on my board for various purposes which should do the recombine bit. Is there any issues with phase? (Probably pedal dependant) Ps : great series

Phase - yes, pedal dependant! Most wet effects are in phase but I can't say 'always' unfortunately. For the split... so long as it's a Y cable that splits signal and not an insert cable (which takes tip of the TRS plug out to one side and ring out to the other) if that makes sense.

there are so many interfacer versions these days... but if it has a toggle switch on it, no. If it has a red and black pushbutton on it - maybe.

@@GoodwoodAudio this is just extremely helpful as a reference. Maybe show a serial, parallel then effects loop? With the same set of pedals? Maybe with some discussion of wdw/ kill dry?
