yes, Stellaris changes so much that large parts of these guide become partly incorrect, but 4.0 i think will mean mostly incorrect. Sigh. I will relearn the game, as I always, while complaining to my wife that it is so different (Tip, I will need to get my wife hooked on a "her" show at the time, so I can play at night, next ot her on the couch, but not HAVE to watch..)

Knocking out any techs that you could get for free from anomalies, like Blue Lasers and Assembly Patterns, is also good to crack at because once you have them your reward for finding these anomalies is either more experience, research points, or getting ahead on a relevant tech.

Little tip as well, you don't have to do the "transfer ships then move the admiral over" thing. You always start with three corvettes, and if you hit "split fleet" instead it always splits into a 1 ship fleet and a 2 ship, and the admiral will be in the 1 ship.

When i am somewhat tech-rushing - i am going for "merkantile" tradition and switching trade policy to "market of ideas" as my primary source of unity, and as for civics i am going for ones that provide scientist positions in council so more scientists - more bonus science i get as they lvl-up (ending up having only scientists and generals in council). Some time later i create trade federation which provides the universal trade policy allowing for receiving both unity, consumer goods and energy from trade, now also solving the problem of upkiping my scientists and actually allowing my pops to focus on trade instead of energy so much that i can complete the whole game never ever producing energy from pops (also without the need to switch to civilian economy since the most of consumer goods are coming from trade). Trade is simply more/too universal and reliable comparing to energy (because you can simply get no good planet for energy-crafting). Also i am always skiping "prosperity" and "discovery" traditions since only thing they are boosting are mostly numbers in the economic graphs, which is... not so interesting, while "merkantile" is mostly enough to solve the upkiping problem and going for other two traditions is somewhat overkill (and "harmony" can boost production via stability in addition to other bonuses so i prefer to go for "harmony" next). Also i am going Egalitariano-Xenophilic instead of Egalitariano-Materialistic empire. Combined with the focus on trade i can use it to sign commercial pacts left and right, and xenophilic faction is easier to please than materialistic one (going for utopian abundance instead of academic one tho, but it works better with the focus on trade as it boosts all classes and not specialists only). So at the end, while i avoided obvious steps in a tech-rush strategy, i still ended up with the nice research speed without sacrificing anything actually :V

The starter traits for leaders will only appear the 3 first levels. If you don't get an upgrade you want you should just increase whatever they started with to level two and hope for a better roll at level 3. If you have the trait you want and you're offered another desireable one you can just lock it in and increase one of them at level 3. At level 4 you get your specialization and after that you will be offered different traits anyways.

I always start the game with the intent to tech rush into the federation of planets, but I also always start next to a devouring swarm and have to go the imperium of man xenos purging route. Although if you prepare for it, the diversion away from tech rushing into a corvette swarm war machine is a blessing in disguise, you don’t have to waste influence on claiming their systems since you’re purging… ending their threat. by the time the war is over you’re probably cranking out cruisers against their destroyers and your territory has doubled or more giving you a lot of access to new colonies to return to tech rushing into the benevolent overlord of the galaxy.

I found the mod "No Ethic Spawn Bias" helped me immensely with this issue. Vanilla galaxy generation guarantees that you will always, 100% of the time, be surrounded by civs with ethics opposed to you. This is by design as the devs think peace in the early game is "boring".
@dabluflcn

@@SoSezTheDude I’ll have to look that one up, I tend to just do more ascension perks and ship skin mods, but it sounds worth a try, I don’t mind starting next to a jerk civ if it means I can quickly gobble them up and double my empire size. Sometimes it doesn’t work and I am the one gobbled, but high risk high reward

@ With the mod it can still happen. It's just not _guaranteed_ to happen. It makes the ethics random, not weighted. I don't mind having hostile neighbors. I just don't like that if i go, say, spiritualist, i know before i hit start that i absolutely will be surrounded by materialists.

i've tried a tech rush with driven assimilator voidforged genesis architect and it is fun. Habitat give a huge amount of tech early game, driven assimilator give you access to cyborg leader which gives more science and by using binary/trinary stars has hydroponics habitat with bio reactor you gain food and energy. with the cybernetic ascension basically you don't have pop growth penalty and gestation world give you ton of pop growth. (240% for me on a size 24 world) with genesis architecte you gain really fast pop that are good on land (your bio pop from voidforged become less and less relevant since you cannot change their habitat preferences). I used also machine world ascension perk but was disapointed because i thought that cyber pop had 70% habitability on it but no. 0% base hab but they can live on it. With genesis you can gain machine world preference pop but it become painful to transition between regular pop and machine preference one Maybe i could try world shaper with strip mining decision. -50% habitability on a 100% ideal world is still 100% hab. For food, still have hydroponic habitat and starbase, same for energy

I am not arguing, this build is very solid and versatile. I just found out, that cybernetic creed with guardian civic is op. Engeneer civic, civic for leaders and rapid breeders. Also add that civic, that gives insane bonuses if there is no blocker on your planet. Sure, it is a little slow in first 30 years (in exception to engeneer reaserch), but after u colonize everything you want, clear blockers and add that augmantantion traits resources and tech is going to the north in cosmic scale. Only issue is to stay alive in first 30 years. But is not xenophobe and plays in minimum medium galaxy it is preety easy. Obvious down side is that build is very specific and not versatile. So I guess I do not argue, just curios others opinion, if I found good build or if I am delusion. Surely ops will comment on this if I am wrong ^^

Your options are; 1) produce more science 2) reduce sprawl from pops 1) if you have a lot of pops it may be worth making several science worlds! 2) there are multiple ways to reduce sprawl, of the top of my head it may be worth removing unruly via species tabs or adding sprawl reducing trait if you can! I can’t remember the other ways off the top of my head but worth looking at your traditions and ascension perks!

When it comes to building a race, aren't rapid breeders a must have as the sooner you build up your population the better (I would put it instead of ingenious in most cases, except for Synthetic Fertility for obvious reasons)? And when it comes to negatives, unruly and deviants are basically the free picks - unruly can be easily removed through the pop modification around the midgame while deviants practically don't have any effect whatsoever because ethics attraction is really easy to build up.

As machines you can actually get both as long as you start with one of the normal 3 preferences, you can just design a new pop day 1 with the mechanical rapid breeders and recycled (which lower assembly cost btw, its funny how it works) and then put the new species on assimilation rights and start producing them instead. You can also use this to get all 3 preferences essentially for free in some capacity. It's still useful on shattered ring/gaia world/habitat(i think?) preference, but you need a tech to do it. I think same applies for Hive Minds but im not sure
