Should I do habitats next? Let me know if I missed anything, I'll update this comment! Update log: 0:47 - this was not communicated properly by me in the script. The diameter was 186 million miles, approximately the orbit of the earth. While the edge was 1 million miles wide. The graphics are correct, the script is confusing. Thanks @Orion.401 8:18 - Living metal also increase megasturcutre build speed. Thanks @CzamyBonek 24:42 - This does not allow for an extra megastructure build capacity, it allows for an extra of a type (i.e. dyson spheres) this change does not apply to rings. Thanks @mr-gunny abd @machixius @CzamyBonek - However, with the science federation you get an extra build capacity at lvl 5, allowing for all ring segements to be built at once. This capacity was from the start of federations. Thanks @CzamyBonek

It would have been awesome for a ring-world to be one size 100 world, and also more true to the original concept of a ring-world. I suppose dividing a ring-world into 4 parts helps with game balance or some such, but I can’t think of any other depiction of a ring-world that’s been split into 4 parts like this.

They could actually implement something similar to the new way habitats work. The whole ring could be a single colony, with building new segments increasing the number of available districts.
@aoki6332
@aoki6332 9 ай бұрын
at the base game it was that a planet could not have more than 25 Tiles so if it was only one world it will have been kinda worthless and when they finally got to the system we have today whit district each section had 50 or 100 (i dont remember) and people where complaining on how having a world whit that amount of district where making your Empire sprawl insane so they make it so each district is like a 5(10) times normal district and divided it be 5(10) so you get 10 but yeah whit there new system whit habitat they could make it so that each ringworld is one big planet and not 4 separate one

But it would be harder to specialize the ring with designations
@neillindgren8992
@neillindgren8992 9 ай бұрын
@@Marvin-ud8co It’d still be able to be categorized as a tech world, a forge world, etc, but only as a single type rather than 4. You’d lose out in variety, but gain in volume (a size 100 tech ring would put out so much science!).

If the ringworld is only one "colony", then you barely have any population growth. In the real world, demand for labour boosts wages and high wages and the demand for labour itself boost fertility. It makes sense to divide the ringworld into multiple segments or otherwise the population needed for the quickly built districts would only fill up with migration, which doesn't make much sense. To counter that, they could just have growth speed on ringworlds set to 4x or even 5x.

Small correction: The Contingency relic doesn't give an additional magestructure build capacity, it allows you to build a second megastructure of each type (excecpt ringworlds, because they are already uncapped). That means you cannot build 4 megastructures simultaneously but you are able to build 2 dyson spheres, sciene nexi (is that the correct plural? 😅) and so on.
@CzarnyBonek
@CzarnyBonek 9 ай бұрын
Several mistakes, omissions and additions: Living metal used to increase the megastructure build speed (passively, also mentioned later in the video) 2.2 had the highest number of patches because it was the most broken patch ever, with basically every minor patch having an infinite resources exploit, horrible balance, rampant bugs etc. There used to be an "unnoficial" way to start as a ringworld before origins came to be, it just required editing a single line in your empires list file. As a side note, the same exploit could be used to play with Plantoid portrait without owning the dlc. You could build all 4 segments simultaneously since federations, science fed has a +1 as a perk. Isolated Contingency Core gives you the ability to build 2 of unique megastructures, not +1 build slot. And finally, that line about L-cluster resources on rings was not removed from the wiki for almost 2 years. Pretty much the only thing i got from the video, now i know where my nanites went.

I'm playing Stellaris every now and then since the 24th of November 2017, so 6 years by now! I fell on my face until 2.0 and only tried the game a few times but I still remember how you needed a extra ascension perk for ringworlds. I must also add that I like such a video, as a long time player, much more than the usual gameplay videos. Because I've kinda already seen nearly everything after 1670 hours :P

The timing on this video lol. Here I am, fighting 25x crisis xAll, spamming ringworlds to power charge my repeatable techs. Got 3 systems completed and 5 more developing (2 segments at a time... wtb more ascension slots). Thankfully, a few alloy ecumenopoli ensures the alloys to build em are no issue, even with constantly replacing fleets killed by the contingency. >>

I never understood why they had to nerf the ringworld start so badly. Some origins will always be the more powerful choice mechanically speaking, its just how it is. Stellaris is not a highly competitive game and in competitions you could always just ban certain origins and such to prevent someone from having an unfair advantage.

I recently picked up Stellaris, like about 3 weeks ago And in my first 2 games I found a Ringworld close to my spawn in each. So I thought they're a pretty normal thing to find but I totally forgot that they even existed before I stumbled upon this video, because in my last idk 4 games I didn't find even 1. Makes me kinda sad they're not as common as I thought Now that I think about it, weren't there also Dyson Spheres? I know I once found and restored one....

As a player/modder who has been around since launch, the things you were not 100% on i can vouch of clear: - Natural Ringworld spawning, used to only be Materialist fallen empires. With Ecumenopolis added this changed. Not sure about non-dlc for Ecumenopolis access though. - Broken Ringworlds did spawn around when utopia released, i can confirm it because it caused a few war the roleplay multiplayer group i ran at the time. I feel like Ringworlds used to be the end game goal of any major empire. Now, well it is more of a welcome addition rather then something you go out and search for. I recall having colonies on the other side of the galaxy to just claim ringworlds years ago. Now? That is unthinkable and just silly.

so one semi broken thing with the old ringworlds wasnt the ringworld it self but how star bases worked, back then starbases would generate above planets not the star, meaning a 4 "planet" ringworld would have 4 star bases, you could also build a thing call a defence station which was weeker but had the added affect that any hostile ship entering the system would apear at the defence station. so if you put the defence station in the middle of the ringworld it means what ever hostle fleet jumped in they would immedetly be in the cross fire of 4 star bases

I honestly never build ring worlds, i like my games rather short (125-150 years max) and the tech for those + the cost + the sheer time to make them + the time to populate the thing means they would never have time to be a positive rather than a strain on my economy. Dyson spheres and matter compressors are just so much more convenient. The shattered ring origin is only really good for trade empires also, which i learned to hate due to never being able to make those damn trade federations, when i take xenophile i always, always, always spawn near a bunch of xenophobes who want nothing to do with me. So in short, i'll take 'em if i can find them but i won't go out of my way to make that happen.

I find it weird that ringworlds for individual empires have trade districts instead of energy districts despite it being closer to the star than most other planets making it better at getting energy from solar panels which is the primary source of energy for most empires

Since both the void dwellers origin and shattered ring origins have been so nerfed, I think that ring-world and habitat preferences should be eliminated, as they seem to be holdovers from when those preferences were needed for game balance. Having a preference for a “planet” that your race didn’t evolve on, but instead built and settled on instead never made sense anyway. At the very least, ring-world, habitat, and even Gaia world preferences should be optional instead of mandatory for those origins.

all these comebacks to the old tile system and having played GalCiv4: Supernova these last weeks make me wish Stellaris got some of that back. like a small procedural Hex map of your planets were you can paint tiles to issue the construction of a certain district like Farming, Mining, Energy, etc. and being able to drop the related buidings into one of them to boost up the surrounding districts. it doesnt need to occupy the whole screen but could be just a small window like the Traditions one.

Back in the day pre-Megacorp I used to run a democratic xenophile empire where the entire strategy was to ensure galactic peace via a Federation and then outgrow everyone forever to ensure dominance. I was building Ringworlds like they were coming off an assembly line and filling them with immigrants from the third-world nations that were eternally overcrowded. The xenos kept making my pops for me, and I'd steal them with free housing, Utopian Abundance, and the promise of jobs. (This was also pre-interbreeding so the lag was much less in late-game, still massive tho). I think I might try a run like that again in the near future, and make it a goal to build at least 25 Ring Worlds.
