+Unfortunately, Josh's mic sounds a little muffled in this episode, sorry about that!+
After a short hiatus, Josh and Feli are back with another episode and this time we are in Cincinnati! A few weeks back, when Feli was visiting Munich, we asked you all what you wanted to know from the people of Munich and then we hit the streets and got asking ( • EP69: On The Streets o... ). This week’s episode is the sister episode to that. We asked you all to send us your questions for the people of Cincinnati and then we made our way to the mall to get chatting. We loved this little mini-series and hope you all do too! Let us know in the comments what YOUR answers are to the questions (even if you live in a different city or country) and what surprised you! Did we get you planning your next trip to Cincinnati?!

I am currently traveling solo for two weeks for the first time - in Germany! Also my first time ever leaving the continent. Josh, that “oh shit” moment is universal. I think at some point before each flight on the way here, I told myself “you know, you can always just go back home”. And I think last night, my second night here, I had a bit of a moment. So just wanted to say that I completely empathize with you, and I’m glad that you were able to make it happen. And to both of you, thank you for what you do to educate those of us who have this deep interest in the German culture and language. Also Feli, the equestrian event you were struggling to think of, in the US we literally just call it “equestrian”. Thank you also for everything that you do, I might not be in Germany right now if it weren’t for you

@13:38 I've always wanted to visit Cincinnati! @19:03 Not sure if Josh is blushing or nervous but thank you for the courage to ask these questions! @25:55 wow! Feli I'm amazed by you! You're right the answers ranged from $40k to just below six figures. @29:50 wow $240/month rent?!?!?!?! That's amazing! I had a friend here in NYC who paid $400/month but he slept on a bunk bed with 3 other guys in a 1BR apt. @38:40 I love Skyline Chili! @50:00 I thought people would have mentioned cars too! @57:25 I'm not surprised people preferred a higher salary over more vacation days. @1:00:35 Thx for doing this Q&A with random folks in Munich and Cincinnati! I hope you do this again in the future!

It was good to see you folks again. I wasn't sure what had happened to your program. I have never been a fan of public transportation-never have ridden the city bus here [ I heard that is a good way for tourists to get a really cheap tour of the place sans a guide]. The only public transportation [other than school buses] that I have ever really taken was a solo train ride from Regina, Sask. to Prince Rupert, B.C. when I was 16. I loved it, both the independence and the ride [we have no trains in Juneau]. Other than that, I have ridden the State Ferry's many times, as short of flying it is the only way to get from one city to the next here in Southeast Alaska, especially if you have any kind of vehicle.

Very interesting! I lived in OH for 4 years but never even thought about seeing Cincinnatti. I laughed out loud when the person said Germans were welcoming because it's not been my experience. I don't believe she would feel at home if she came here. Most Americans I know think they will feel at home where their ancestors are from but it's totally different when they have to live there.

Empress Chili tried to expand to Texas. It took 2 months for them to add Texas-style chili to the menu. They closed after 6 months. I agree with Graeter’s. Here in Texas Kroger carries Skyline and Graeter’s. Love them both.

The question about the cost of living in Cincinnati. Depends really on your lifestyle..I do like how the city invest in the attraction around the city. The water infrastructure uv light technology..in other words you.get.a lot of entertainment that is available.😯

Glad Josh has his job lined up. 😀 Hope Feli has fun showing the family around. BTW: "south" and "southern" are relative terms. If one is form NY, Maine, or NJ, Cincinnati might be considered "southern". KY and VA form the border with TN and NC... that would make up the semi-official border for "northern" and "southern" states in USA. FYI: Clarksville, TN is considered the "Gateway to the South" which is on the northern edge of TN. Fort Campbell, KY is right on the southern edge of KY and blends in with parts of Clarksville.... and Bowling Green, KY is only a little more NE from that point. Personally, I would not think Cincinnati or Ohio is "southern". 😁 However, I could see how people in more northern states could consider KY a southern state... though that may be a divided opinion. Louisville and Lexington residents may prefer to be considered a northern state... maybe? Oh, now that Josh has been to Spain, I restate my suggestion for either "Feli from Germany" or "Understanding Train Station" channel to do either a joint podcast with... or a regular interview with... Dianne Jennings's channel (Diane Jennings). She is from Ireland and has visited Spain many times, but is familiar with a lot of Europe and has also visited the USA several times as well. I am not sure how familiar with Munich or Germany as a whole that she is, but I think there would be a lot of mutual talking points that you could each share. I have mentioned both of your channels in comments on her podcast as well with the same suggestion to her. You have some similar ideas with your videos, but definitely have your own flavors. I have been binging her podcast now, just as I did to catch up on all your fun videos about a year ago. 🙂

Virginia was a Confederate state and contributed more soldiers to fight for the Confederacy than any other Confederate state, including contributing Generals Robert E. Lee, Stonewall Jackson, JEB Stuart, among others. To say that Virginia is not a southern state is simply not accurate. (Yes, Virginia has now lost much of its "southerness", but this is also true for every other former Confederate state.)

I don't think the south/midwest have a super clear border, but generally, I'd say St. Louis and Cincinnati are the most Southern Midwestern cities and Memphis and Lexington are the most Midwestern Southern cities.

Would have guessed the meaning of Southern city just right. But as a German who has never been to the US I lack any precise idea where the North ends and the South starts or vice versa. Some are obvious of course, but those are no more difficult than knowing that Madrid is *not* in Scandinavia.

if you want to live in NYC (manhattan, rather than the five boroughs) I'd say you need at least 100K to have a decent apartment and enjoy going out, etc.

Cinnamon does NOT belong in chilli but beans do. The meat and tomatoes should be big and chunky. Over pasta is OK but prefer over rice. Never been to Skyline or GoldStar although we have both around here.
