Alaska road trip ideas, a family adventure in Haines alaska.
This trip we are going to look for some roads going into the high mountains in the Haines Alaska area. We wake up at Chilkoot lake, Make our way to Haines to fuel up on some gas before we head out onto the Alaska Highway / Haines Highway to look for some 4x4 tracks going into the alpine, to access hiking.
A great road trip idea in Alaska is to go to Haines and take this track up flower mountain, if you have a rig and guts that are ready for this kind of adventure.
We find a great idea to explore the historic Dalton trail, a gravel road that follows the Chilkat River for quite some ways until it comes to a gate with a map. On the map we see a road that goes way up into the mountains. We thought it would be a good idea to try to find this road. We try all the little side roads we can find in this lost corner of Alaska.
One of the roads keeps going, we decide to air down our tires and continue up this road, it is a very steep mountain road with gravel an loose rocks, we get stuck in the mud and hung up in a rock garden as we make our way into the alpine on this great road trip idea of doing things different in Haines Alaska.
Once we get into the alpine we have stunning views over the Alaskan wilderness, we see the Chilkat River, the Canadian Border, Glaciers, Mountain tops, the Haines Highway / Alaska Highway, and Pure alaskan beauty.

Thanks! We did too, there was a 3 month waitlist at the vet for rabies vaccinations (you need to show proof of up to date rabies vaccination at the US border). Due to the long wait time, he was not up to date anymore and had to stay behind ☹️
