In this video we will be driving the Dempster and Alaska highways, towing our snowmobiles on the trailer, as we start our snowmobile expedition from Fort Mc Pherson, NWT.
Join us as we embark on an unforgettable journey from Atlin, BC to Fort McPherson via the iconic Alaska Highway and Dempster Highway. in the middle of the northern winter. Hop in the truck with us and join us for a rollercoaster of emotions as we navigate through the snowy landscapes of Canada's North, encountering both the beauty and challenges of winter travel as we make our way to fort mc Pherson, from where we will continue by snowmobile to Old crow and hershel island.
As we set out from Atlin, the anticipation of our adventure fills the air. Bundled up in layers of warm clothing, we hit the road, eager to experience the untamed wilderness that lies ahead. The crisp winter air bites at our cheeks, but our spirits are high as we take in the breathtaking vistas of snow-capped mountains and frozen lakes.
Our first leg of the journey takes us along the renowned Alaska Highway, where the scenery seems to stretch on forever. We marvel at the sheer magnitude of the landscape, feeling small in comparison to the vast expanse of snow and ice that surrounds us. Despite the cold, there's a sense of exhilaration that comes with traversing through such remote and pristine terrain.
As we approach the junction leading to the Dempster Highway, excitement courses through our veins. This is where the real adventure begins. With every mile we travel, the landscape becomes more rugged and unforgiving. Yet, there's a raw beauty to it that is both humbling and awe-inspiring.
The Dempster Highway in winter is a sight to behold. The snow-covered trees glisten in the sunlight, casting a magical glow over the landscape. It's a scene straight out of a winter wonderland, and we feel privileged to be able to experience it firsthand.
But along with the beauty comes the challenges of winter travel. As we make our way towards Fort McPherson, we encounter treacherous road conditions and unexpected obstacles. At Eagle Plains, our journey comes to an abrupt halt as we discover that the road ahead is closed due to inclement weather.
Stuck at Eagle Plains, we find ourselves faced with a dilemma. Do we turn back and abandon our quest, or do we wait it out and see if the road reopens? It's a tough decision to make, but we ultimately decide to stay and ride out the storm, along with 31 semi trucks, some of them who have been waiting here for 8 days.
We hunker down at Eagle Plains, waiting anxiously for any sign of improvement in the weather. The hours crawl by slowly, but we refuse to let despair take hold. Instead, we use this time to bond as a family, sharing stories and laughter to pass the time.
Finally, after what feels like an eternity, the weather clears, and the road reopens. With renewed determination, we set out once again, our sights set on Fort McPherson. The sense of accomplishment we feel upon reaching our destination is immeasurable.
Our winter expedition on the Dempster Highway may have been filled with challenges, but it's also been a journey of discovery and adventure. From the stunning landscapes to the unexpected twists and turns, every moment has been a testament to the resilience of the human spirit.
Join us on this extraordinary adventure as we relive our winter expedition on the Dempster Highway.
