Although they're definitely not elite, they're pretty good at doing their thing. Much better than their archer counterpart as far as the quality/number/price ratio is concerned in my opinion. They're always useful on the battlefield when you're playing as the goblins of the misty moutains. A very good cheap early fighting meatshield! ;)

elite means best of the best, snaga skirmishers are not, infact if i remember correctly the elite troops for evil factions are pikes for isengard, trolls, and black new menorians, (i'm not counting rhun as one of the evil factions, i guess it'd be easier just to say monster orc/monster factions), everything else gets it's ass handed to them on a silver plater.

WinterburnVideos I think these are the elite units for each evil faction (orcs and humans) : - Mordor : Black Númenóreans, Olog Hai - Isengard : Guard of the Orthanc, Berserker (and most of their heavy units are pretty elite) - Goblins : Heavy Goblin Infantry, Cave Troll - Gundabad : Orc Bodyguard, Snow Troll - Harad : Serpent Guard, Mûmakil - Rhûn : Lôke-Innas Rim, and all the Lôke footmen

Very cool battle. Beginning with a big open field battle with lots of cavalry action and then going to epic gate defenses and then street fights and that ending. Everything you can hope for in a epic fight. You did focus a little to much on the catapult when the dale general was doing critical cycle charges in the orcs backlines. But man awesome battle.

Hey there Apollo, how about this as a Third Age scenario? Or recommend this scenario to Sin or whoever else you'd like. Just a rough idea. The defenders are in a extremely advantageous position, not necessarily bottlenecks so no boring Thermopylae situation, but are just difficult to reach, and are composed solely of elite units. The catch is that they are outnumbered by the attackers 10-to-1. OR... Another idea. Orcs are laying siege a city. The thing is that the attacking Orcs are actually outnumbered by the defenders rather than the other way around. The Orcs are made up only of elite units and the defenders, while much more numerous, and made up of the absolute lowest tier units possible. Last idea is a custom scenario where the Hobbits turned evil and launch a crusade of Conquest against all of Middle Earth who have been weakened since the War of the Ring. They'd have overwhelming numbers and the defenders are badly outnumbered. :P Just silly fun. I don't know how that would play out but I hope they're interesting enough to worth a try.

Thousands of evil Hobbits trying to storm Minas Tirith, which can only muster a scant few hundred men to try and stop the onslaught. They are skilled but just cannot stop the tide as streams of tiny killers slip through the cracks in their defenses and unleashed a proverbial storm of tiny arrows.

Once, I had a single swan knight, the rest of his unit dead, continue to fight and single handedly defeat an entire ballista crew. So now, whenever a single guy continues to fight on with all his comrades dead, I give him the Swan Knight Award. This battle has a record 5 winners of the Swan Knight Award: the dale swordmaster at 35:23 , the vault warden, the dismounted earl, the dwarven noble, and the barding hird. These are the men who really deserve statues.

Holy Crap! This battle was awesome on so many levels I was sweating waterfalls till the end! That explains why the game kept crashing previously. @Pixelated Apollo Historically speaking it was Rhun that attacked Dale in the third age. They actually completely destroyed Dale killing the Dale king Bain (Bard's Son) and king Dain of the Dwarves. Rhun actually almost took Erebor too but with the death of Sauron they just up and left for home. Would love to see that in a replay Apollo

i think this is one of those scenarios both generals died king dain and bain in this defense of dale scenario and they suffered huge losses and killed as many orcs, classic tolkien battle LOVED IT

I have a drinking game I play with Apollo's vids. Every times he gives advice, drink. Or some vids, overtimes he says something like "I bet he's saying, 'Oh, where are my friends, am I all alone" or gives soldiers dialogue, drink. And my personal favorite; every time Apollo mispronounces something or says "I can't pronounce that", I take a shot. I usually am pretty tipsy by the end, almost always 7 or 8 shots. But one time I took 14 and almost threw up. This has been: Story Time with Skich.

Because in the movie, Dale was a rekt town due to Smaug destroying the town along time ago. Before Smaug destroying the whole town, Dale had really good troops but no one can beat the love of Dwarves! DWARVES! :D

this battle though not completely accurate (the people attacking dale were from Rhun) was after the attacks from smaug and about 30 to 40 years after the hobbit took place so Dale was able to recolonize their city and build up their military.
