It's one of my favorite t9's and definitely my favorite t9 dd, albeit I don't have much experience with dds but I find it to be buckets of fun just holding left click down and melting almost any ship that is unfortunate to push into you or get stuck bow in. Not having 32mm of he pen isn't a huge issue because of how many fires it can start especially if you use one of the special Dutch commanders with buffed demolition expert and running both fire flags giving you like 12.5% fire chance on 1.5 second reload guns if you have the right build. On a side note Groningen/Friesland are Arms Race menaces if you can grab 3 reload buffs and any amount of damage buffs. With 50% hp AR buff and 3 reload buffs it can get its reload down below 1 second.

Seems like the Groningen (or Friesland) relay big time on MM. it’s extremely hard to carry a whole flank by yourself. If you’re paired with another DD, then you are crazy deadly

Love this ship. I think you just forgot to mention her AA is insane for a DD. Shooting down planes means even more base XP ^^

its important to know that Halland-class destroyer ASW may be thrown from the bow of the ship, but it explodes directly below you if you're going full speed. So you actually need to drop them as you're right above the submarine. Ive been using this and had great effects in Groningen.

I love this boat so much. My highest xp game is in it, I thought I was testing a silly build in coop, but accidentally went into randoms. I played like an aggressive maniac thinking enemy were bots.... annnd it worked for once. PS. having watched the vid - that explains it, I went solo against 3 DDs in that game and won, that's why the xp was crazy high. (ok one of them was an Asashio, so it was 2.5 DDs, but, still...)

I'm always saddened and amazed when my teammates in ranked are afraid to push this ship when it's by itself in smoke... That feeling when Friesland burns down your BB teammate because he's afraid of getting torpedoed.

i ask the same of my teams many times. teams that focus and kill DDs at the start have such an advantage in spotting and torp spamming the rest of the game. plus, the phycological effect on the big ships that all start to run from their flanks once their DD is dead. a good spotting DD and teammates that back him up are the key to so many wins.

love my Friesland. need to do DD main gun damage, fires, or total hits for a mission this is the one. i asked in one of the forum pages about FXP ships for the future and Askewance(?) answered back saying they were NOT going to be putting ships in that category any longer. so like you said, FXP is now a RB commodity.

@@danh7411 In my case its the same as the scoreboard showed even with Premium, 1st Victory, Flags etc Stats showed the same amount as I received in the Scoreboard

so there's a few things I'd like to say about this First it's a shame that most people in randoms don't focus destroyers and instead go for the very big and clumsy BB. I, as someone who plays Drake currently, likes to even if I have AP loaded to try to hit a destroyer, no matter if I hit it or not, it'll scare him so I always take my shot. Also there's a odd thing, Friesland grenade are like Fuso shells thrown at 12 km toward the submarine, how can't it just one shot it, pure balans ?

As someone who mainly plays destroyers you scare me. The best thing that can happen from my point of view is that someone gets distracted by larger ships, for this reason I try and call in fire when I feel threatened. This also lets me do the "rabid Chihuahua" thing and rush around relatively unmolested and dealing quite an amount of damage before either getting killed or driven off. But if that battleship or cruiser decides to step on the annoying insect, I'm going to run off and spot and torpedo snipe rather than contest a cap.

@@M167A1 nah, why would I bother shooting a big, lumbering BB when blowing the crap out of the cute little thing can allow my team to win. The only exception of swapping out of a DD is when I see a CV that I can poach the pelt to hang atop my fireplace

Nice game, definitely keep an eye on the Friesland/Groningen! The highest base XP I ever achieved was in my Jean Bart with 4.3k She is such a cool Ship, I really love my Jean Bart. I got her shortly before she went out of the store as my first Coal ship with Georgia and Thunderer following after. Both are good ones as well but I never had as much enjoyment as I had in my Jean Bart

Me (UK) got the Friesland because my Dutch friend lives in that province. Until then I only played torp focused dds. Best choice in my wows journey, it's a fantastic ship.

Not only is hunting smaller ships great for winning the cat and mouse aspect of it are a lot of fun. The games where you get in the enemy's head and are one step ahead are the best kind of experience this game has to offer. No RNG, just winning the duel.

Yep, Groningen is a good one. I hate running into these when I'm playing a differing DD. Gron is a DD killer, a Cruiser killer, a BB killer, a sub killer, an AA beast and a CV killer: can you ask for more? lol Oh wait it's a hell of a credits and XP maker and it'll make your trigger finger sore too. ha

I did some research and in a very unlikely scenario where you're at 25% hp is groningen in arms race with 3 dmg buffs and 3 reload buffs, reload mod, fearless brawler and MB and AA expert firing while detected can afford you over 668k HE dpm and over 851k AP dpm. Sure it's a VERY unlikely position to be in but you could manage even better dpm with a friesland and Jerzy Swerzky even if he's not an ideal captain for Friesland. That .05% AR buff works wonders over time. Still absolutely insane to potentially get over 800k ap dpm out of 4 guns.

Once early in a game a red DD player, that was just deleted, wondered why he alone shot our DD while even BBs across the map shot him. :)

Guys, just a qick note to understand base xp! The ingame numbers are multiplied with 1.5, when you are playing with premium! So a 2000 base XP game will be tracked as 3000 XP. This is why you cannot compare standard with premium accounts directly. As a premium player, base XP are only shown directly after the game. PQ's game here consequently is rated ingame with 3889*1.5 = 5834XP.

Thank you for your great videos. I assume the scoring system is only news to battleship players who have ignored DD's for decades. I'm glad you finally caught up. Now we are waiting for all the real potato battleship players to catch up and we can get some real games.

I got both Friesland and Groningen for free exp, and i just love them. I messed a Forrest Sherman up recently with Friesland and it felt awesome

Groningen is nice because you have good AA to annoy carriers and hydro to deal with other destroyers and subs.

Spotting is waaaay undervalued. I've long thought that rewarding spotting more would make this a much better game: less selfish play, less farming by CVs, etc.

in the summary tab that shows average damage, xp etc. the section below shows the highest. if you mouse over it you can. see what ship you got it in, just like mousing over awards.

Friesland is amazing, since the addition of superships she suffers from being T9 matchmaking though. Even Frieslands AA can't stop supercarriers and open water gunboating against an Annapolis or Conde doesn't sound like a good idea. However, thanks to her bigger brother Ragnar my pan european gunboat captain at least has 2 ships to command with similar skills and is somewhat worth the grind. With superships murdering T9 matchmaking, T8 matchmaking so far seems to be in a quite decent place. I rarely get a T10 match. Do you think you could make a video about the best T8 ships, premium and tech tree?

Friesland can be fun in the right match maker. Not very consistent though, really suffers against a push not having torps. My best base xp round was in a Tirpitz with over 5k base xp. (stoneofwar) Really wish I still had the replay file for that round but at the time the game auto deleted them after so many. I used to love pushing with secondary BBs and knife fighting DDs. Torping DDs with a BB will always bring a smile to your face. A symmetrical battles (T8vT6) was a ton of fun. Knife fighting 4 T6 dds in a Massachusetts and winning is a riot. Sucks WG killed pushing again and it`s back to the sniper fest.

Friesland is a province in the Netherlands. Groningen is the capital city of this province. So the naming wasn't coincidental 😉

According to wowsnumbers my highest bxp was 4k in the Edinburgh of all ships. I remember some of the game it was in but I honestly can't recall if that number is correct.

I got over 4600 base exp with my Massachusetts. It was an interesting match and all the DD kills with secondaries. Even a devastating strike with one secondary hit on a Friesland. I think it was on the WOW replays on youtube. It was a wild match.

Maybe the algorithm for free xp has changed but my highest was 5368 in Montana. You can look it up in player stats and going through your ships.

Great game! Leads me to a question regarding the history of base xp. As per my statistics my biggest based xp was around 4,100 in a Bismarck which must have been years ago, I certainly do not recall it or having that crazy of a battle. Was base xp calculated differently in the past? My player name is the same as my youtube name if you want to double check yourself.

My max base EXP according to my profile is 4104 in my Ragnar. Unfortunately i can't remember the game... I'd have loved to know what i did, because i didn't notice at the time. Probably hunting DDs and give a lot of AA support, that's how i usually play her.

You have to realise that your highest XP in your stats is NOT your highest base xp. It includes premium bonus and your daily win bonus. A good game at the right time will give you a 5k highest xp on your stats page, but the base xp will only be in the mid to high 2k range. Getting over 3k base xp is an epic achievement, I’d be surprised if there was more than a handful of games with base xp over 4k

Friesland now is a rare ship right? rare ships cant get ''balance changes ''?? so this means that Friesland cant be changed when Groningen can get for example a nerf at the main battery reload from 1.6 seconds base to 1.8? is that accurete?

@@irgendwie9510 I guess you are a premium player, so ingame, there is a "1.5 premium multiplier" on this XP number. The pure base XP which is displays right after the match (as PQ did it here) was 5328/1.5 = 3552.

Call me crazy, but i actually took the depth charge skill for my Captain and depth charge mod. 1 on my Friesland for the full subhunter experience. But seriously I build my Friesland for AA, Anti Submarine. I actually enjoy it, deliberately driving into aircraft early game (no joke) to see whole squadrones just gone, having 4x 8 depth charges in total with with 70400 potential damage instead of 32000 with the standard 2x 8 with no upgrades and skills. And 75% of the destroyers I face are much more scared of me then I am of them. I am currently trying to get the A. Nevsky and set it up as a AA/Submarine hunter maybe it will work out just like the Friesland. Anyway enjoy your videos, really engaging and fun without the need for Toxic comments and behavior.

Yeah Wargaming needs to give assistance dmg some sort of XP. In WoTs I think spotting gets you half the XP as the tank that actually did the damage. I don't understand why Wargaming fights this so much in WoWs. Seems really dumb. Heaven forbid you actually get through some tech tree ships faster because you get credit for work done.
