I worked on high performance boats a couple of weeks at a time for a couple of years in the Miami area, mostly around Dania. I can count the actual number of fun days on the water I had on ZERO fingers. But I was being paid to be there, so fun wasn't in the plan. I was not an experienced boater and it impressed me how quickly things can go from OK to really bad in a few seconds.

Been boating since the early 50's, in salt water. Started on a 16' W/OB of my dad's. Progressed to larger boats, up to a 50' Day Fisher Boat out of Davy Jones Locker in Newport Beach Ca. In rough seas try to stay into the wind and the waves. Throttle up the face and throttle back into the trough. Don't let the waves through you off of a straight approach. Never try to power through rough water, unless you want a deck awash in human upchuck from your passengers.

You have a few years on me (you were boating when I was a kid playing at the docks and on the breakwater at king harbor in 61 or so) However its hard to tell in the pictures but unless it's actual storm waves the east cost in FL is pretty mild. Small craft advisory at 3' to 4' swells. The inlets have a lot of both top and bottom currents running in different directions depending on the tide and prevailing winds piling up water. I seldom see the water as bad, but I'm damn careful near shore at all times. Happy boating

I’m actually surprised that the state of Florida hasn’t posted signs that ban jet skis from the inlet except for passage only. I would assume it would be tough for them to enforce since they don’t sit there and patrol it constantly, but if they made the ticket a decent amount people would stop playing in the inlet.

agreed and no stopping in the inlet unless for emergency reasons.But they could make jetskis have a high flag so they can be easily spotted by boaties.When you think about it,jetski users are at a higher chance of getting seriously hurt by a boat yet they seem to run amok in the inlet and out around it.Its basically a highway to the ocean,not a playground.

Sheriffs, FWC, Park Rangers, FWP, Life/Coastguard, etc... do not mess around, and are THE most professional well trained groups, and their records show the numbers... they are good men and women and they are either your best line of defense or your worst enemy if you cross them. I've watched and loved these videos for years now. As someone from England it seems totally crazy that boats rush through here flat out. Clearly there is no speed limit through Haulover Inlet. It's pretty narrow, busy and has extreme wind over tide chop - so why? Usually any authorities will go totally over the top when it comes to safety and be over cautious.

It is mentioned in the notes that larger craft don't have the same level of visibility of what's going on in front of them as smaller craft, but then, the starboard bow is not the brightest position for an ornamental(?) surfboard either, right? I think the skipper may have concentrated too much on the jetski on starboard as a result of having even more limited visibility on that side, causing him to swerve into the jetski on port. 🤔🫣

The boat techs (all kinds) in that area must never get a day off, I can imagine all the structural damage to hull & transom, seen & unseen, from that constant pounding, wouldn't buy a boat registered from that area !

Thanks,enjoyed seeing the power boats, The jst skiers are like motorcycles in front of a Semi truck on the road. The Old saying Size Does matter. The small jet skies are obviously more maneuverable and will lose Every time in a collision Ran a 165 crew boat for years. .Luckily never had a problem with the jet skiers. Worked Mostly in a commercial area. Later from Texas.

All boats should "do no harm" in ALL interactions on the water. That said, Inlets (Haulover or otherwise), are all ingress access routes. These are not large enough to support the ridiculous numbers of PWC operators "Playing" in the turbulent waters. In this incident, the Jetski was in the wrong area to be...'loitering" for lack of a better term. Alternatively, this youtube channel captures far too many large vessels entering and exiting FAR TOO Quickly. The bow is high and vision is impaired. This is a Collision, not an intentional action. Boater may be fined for too Fast. PWC should also receive a fine for Impeeding access to an inland waterway. Both need a lesson in using these inlets.. Way too many boaters ignoring proper operation in these inlets!
@NeverEnoughPyro40
@NeverEnoughPyro40 Жыл бұрын
@danconn2065 First of all there is no speed limit in the Inlet or the ocean, The border is definitely not getting any fines whatsoever! The only person who needs to be educated is the person on the PWC, You’re not supposed to stop your vessel in the middle of the channel or inlet! Tell me what did the boater do that was wrong? I have been boating for over 35 years, so maybe you can answer my question with facts rather than opinions!

@@NeverEnoughPyro40 Surprised no speed limits on a coastal inlet. ALL European countries impose limits - including, for areas of bore, tidal entry time restrictions. PLUS...... Life Jackets ffs.
