I worked on high performance boats a couple of weeks at a time for a couple of years in the Miami area, mostly around Dania. I can count the actual number of fun days on the water I had on ZERO fingers. But I was being paid to be there, so fun wasn't in the plan. I was not an experienced boater and it impressed me how quickly things can go from OK to really bad in a few seconds.

Been boating since the early 50's, in salt water. Started on a 16' W/OB of my dad's. Progressed to larger boats, up to a 50' Day Fisher Boat out of Davy Jones Locker in Newport Beach Ca. In rough seas try to stay into the wind and the waves. Throttle up the face and throttle back into the trough. Don't let the waves through you off of a straight approach. Never try to power through rough water, unless you want a deck awash in human upchuck from your passengers.

You have a few years on me (you were boating when I was a kid playing at the docks and on the breakwater at king harbor in 61 or so) However its hard to tell in the pictures but unless it's actual storm waves the east cost in FL is pretty mild. Small craft advisory at 3' to 4' swells. The inlets have a lot of both top and bottom currents running in different directions depending on the tide and prevailing winds piling up water. I seldom see the water as bad, but I'm damn careful near shore at all times. Happy boating

I’m actually surprised that the state of Florida hasn’t posted signs that ban jet skis from the inlet except for passage only. I would assume it would be tough for them to enforce since they don’t sit there and patrol it constantly, but if they made the ticket a decent amount people would stop playing in the inlet.

All boats should "do no harm" in ALL interactions on the water. That said, Inlets (Haulover or otherwise), are all ingress access routes. These are not large enough to support the ridiculous numbers of PWC operators "Playing" in the turbulent waters. In this incident, the Jetski was in the wrong area to be...'loitering" for lack of a better term. Alternatively, this youtube channel captures far too many large vessels entering and exiting FAR TOO Quickly. The bow is high and vision is impaired. This is a Collision, not an intentional action. Boater may be fined for too Fast. PWC should also receive a fine for Impeeding access to an inland waterway. Both need a lesson in using these inlets.. Way too many boaters ignoring proper operation in these inlets!

That’s what I thought. Immediately! He was quite handy operator. One guy, Wouldn’t look at the camera the others seem suss because most people wave. I thought about a pirate. Perhaps. Something was up! Dangerous times keep your children close.

The boat was stolen. I knew it was when I saw who was driving it and his two passengers. Too obvious. No way those kids trailered that boat from the pork and beans, then launched it. Stereo types are earned, not given.
