Absolutely loved Simple Minds back in the day and this was always a fantastic song. They had sparkling production so that every instrument and vocal was crystal clear but still filled with soul and emotion, and just wrote great songs. Saw them once in concert and they are every bit as powerful live. Great drummer too!

Hi, you two! It's Andrew Erroch fae Paisley in Scotland here. This is a great Glasgow band, and they will be back home at my work, the OVO Hydro in Glasgow, for 2 big nights at the end of this month, supported by Del Amitri, another great Glasgow band. Of course, I will be at both gigs. Simple Minds have some more big songs you've still to hear, not least, their iconic 'Waterfront'. Don't miss their earlier ones, too, like 'Love Song', 'The American', 'I Travel', 'Chelsea Girl' and their very first release 'Life In A Day', from 1979, to name just a few. They had a very different sound back then. Æx 🙏

You have to do Waterfront. They opened the Barrowlands Ballroom in Glasgow to shoot a "live" video for Waterfront. The owners of the venue kept the stage up afterwards. This year is it's 40th year as a music venue and been voted 2nd best venue in Europe (it is the best tho). All Thanks to Simple Minds. It still has the same owners, The equipment has been modernised but it has kept the old Ballroom look. It's a well loved venue in Scotland. The Clash were the first non-scottish band to play there.

I am so glad you did this song and you like it so much! Jim Kerr's voice is distinctive; you always know when you're hearing him, and it's always a delight. Having Robin Clarke sing backup on this was genius. This is one of my favorite songs from Simple Minds, and that's saying a lot, because I love so many of their songs. Just checked it up and you're correct. Lovesong reached number 47 in August 1981,the second of three singles that came close to breaking into the Top 40 for them that year. The others were The American early that summer and Sweat in Bullet (which I heard on the radio a bit at the time) later. Their big breakthrough came with I Promised You a Miracle, which broke into the Top 40 at the anchor position of 40 in April 1982 and went on to reach number 13 (thought it was a place or two higher than that) the following month. They followed that with Glittering Prize getting to number 16 at end of that summer and scored a third Top 40 entry with Someone Somewhere (In Summertime). They returned to the Top 20 when (the) Waterfront crashed into the chart in November 1983,also making number 13. Speed Your Love to Me and Up on the Catwalk followed, but they really hit the big league with Don't You Forget About Me,Alive and Kicking,Sanctify Yourself and All the Things She Said between April 1985 and April/early May 1986.

I'd like to pass along a real good Simple Minds song that many people probably don't know about. They should listen to their song "Mandela Day" from '89.

Simple Minds are touring again! Their European tour starts this month I believe. You've already done "Don't You Forget About Me" and "Alive and Kicking". Their next most popular song according to the YT views is "Belfast Child". Perhaps not popular in the US, but it was a top ten hit in several European countries. This ballad still gives me chills.

@@keithjones7390 You're right, I was aware of that song but hadn't listened to it since the 90s. I just played it, good song.

@@Faltor895 It's funny when you see a review of a band and decide to play some of their music. I did just that yesterday when l listened to a Best of Simple Minds CD in the car. They really did release some good stuff! But l have to say l was very disappointed with Walk Between Worlds, not a strong song on it for me, just my opinion l suppose.

Couple days ago you mentioned that this channel had introduced you to music genres that you would never have listened to. Question: have you tried to introduce different genres to your friends and family. If so, do they like it?

Grew up with this music and watching these videos on MTV back in the 80s, visually cool back then but seeing them now kind of makes you chuckle...good thing the music is solid lol

I know it doesn't look like a revolutionary video, but it is with the way it's edited with the layers of images. We'd never seen anything like this with the fluid multiple images. The album it came from, Once Upon a Time, is one of the most underrated albums of the 80s.

Loved seeing your reaction, I always liked this song, glad you went back to Simple Minds. There are many bands from the 80's that you have not reacted to, hope you get to the following list of suggestions, the best songs/videos go first: Dead Or Alive "You Spin Me Round (Like A Record)" Wall of Voodoo "Mexican Radio" Musical Youth "Pass the Dutchie" Visage "Fade To Grey" Ultravox "Dancing With Tears In My Eyes" , Midge Ure was a member of Visage & Ultravox, his solo work is great, especially "Dear God" XTC "Dear God" Alphaville "Forever Young" the remix version is a dance song, the original a ballad. The The "This Is the Day" The Church "Under the Milky Way" They Might Be Giants "Birdhouse In Your Soul"
