This remains my favorite track from Simple Minds…and one of the hidden gems of the late 80’s. This track is so well recorded and produced…you really get a sense of majesty in recording, very much a huge “wall of sound” vibe. Definitely not hidden. It got to the top of the Billboard charts and received a lot of airplay. And 1985 doesn’t really constitute the late 80’s either. If you want a real hidden gem from Simple Minds, go back to a deep cut off their first album, Life In A Day and try out the song, Pleasantly Disturbed. I think you’ll also find even more interesting instrumentation on some of their early albums.

Simple Minds is thought of as a one-hit wonder because "Don't You Forget About Me" was such a massive smash and nothing else they released ever topped it. They released some absolutely fantastic music, however. Their "comeback" album , from 1995, "Good News From the Next World" is a masterpiece. Unfortunely, it was released during a time when everyone was looking for the next Nirvana, and this sort of pop rock wasn't popular.

Really think Speed Your Love To Me is being under-rated .. the ending is epic, Waterfront with it's huge pounding sounds and vocals is a monster song too.

I think the only reason people say they are similar to U2 is one of their albums was produced by Steve Lillywhite. If you actually know the catalog of both bands, it’s tough to make that comparison.

The 80s...best ever decade of music as my 25 year old niece laments that she wasn't alive then. All The Things She Said, Sanctify Yourself, Promised You a Miracle and then Don't You (Forget About Me) which was on The Breakfast Club soundtrack.

This song was playing when I was skating at a roller rink. Always makes me think of that. Doesn't get more 80s

I was a child during the '80s and teen , young adult during the '90s. 😃 Generation X music here. Great band, loved them. New wave post-punk band that had cool songs, videos in the '80s and '90s. Check out more of their stuff! They were alot like U2 and Inxs.

The singer from this band (Jim Kerr) was actually married to the signer from the Pretenders (Chrissy Hynde) video you did recently....for a long long time. They did have a billboard No1 with Don't you forget about me... and the band were originally called 'Johnny and the Self Abusers' hahahahaha

Great reaction to this SM classic... props for picking some SM. Would definitely recommend 'Belfast Child', 'All The Things She Said', or 'Chelsea Girl' perhaps for some early Simple Minds for your next go round for this great Scottish band.

This band came into the spotlight when their song "Don't You Forget About Me" was featured in the soundtrack of the seminal 80's film "The Breakfast Club" They had the perfect sound for that period in the mid 80's and had several hits including "All The Things She Said" and "Sanctify Yourself"

This song became an anthem for me. I got really sick, bad sick "this dude ain't gonna make it" sick. I was in and out of the hospital and literally died (heart stopped) for a bit, 20 months of intensive care. Nobody really expected me to make it and at one point I was told to get my affairs in order. It looked bleak. Then I recovered. Just boom! Everything started turning around. I posted this song on my social media so all the Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, distant friends and colleagues knew I was "Alive and Kicking"

I was 13 when this song was released in 1985. I actually never thought about the meaning of this song until now. Brad and Lex have opened my eyes to the meaning of a lot of songs that I’ve always liked. I never really pay attention to lyrics. They could be singing about killing puppies, and I probably wouldn’t pick up on it.
