We should also all fall on our faces to give thanks for John Hughes who really gave Simple Minds and other bands like them exposure to kids like me who otherwise would never have heard them, and for the treasures he left behind with the incredible films that defined and helped shape a generation. I was 13 when this came out. But I was totally hooked on "Don't you" and didn't really get into other Simple Minds music until much later. I always wondered why that was until a few years ago I learned that "Don't you" wasn't actually written by them. I decided to familiarize myself with their own music and finally understood and loved it.

80's banger. Quintessential 80's sound. Everything about this song is what was wonderful about the music from this decade. Nostalgia filled enough to make you tearful. I can hear this played on the radio alongside Tears For Fears "Everybody Wants to Rule the World" , Paul Young "Everytime You Go Away", A-ha "Take On Me", Mike + The Mechanics "Silent Running", Mr Mister "Broken Wings", and Sly Fox "Let's Go All the Way".

Simple Minds is a very spiritual band. My favorite song by them is "Speed Your Love to Me." Like U2, many of their songs are written about God with lyrics cloaked in rock guitars, bass, keyboards & drums. "Oh, you lift me up to the crucial top, so I can see Oh, you lead me on, till the feelings come And the lights that shine on But if that don't mean nothing Like if someday it should fall through You'll take me home where the magic's from And I'll be with you"

One the best bands to come out of the 80's. This was a wave of British artists/bands, along with Tears for Fears, The Alarm & U2 whose music drove messages, got people to think, often times topics involving the spiritual & political, but always inspirational. Jim belts his songs out in an almost gospel style that gives you chills and makes your hair stand on end. Jim Kerr is an amazing singer and this album - ONCE UPON A TIME is a great album from start to finish. This song is incredible. "All the Things She Said", "Sanctify Yourself", "Ghost Dancing", "Oh Jungleland". Others - "Belfast Child", "Someone, Somewhere", "See the Lights". So many more. Keep reacting to this band. This band is so ridiculously good.

You should listen to Glittering Prize next as I think Jay would love the incredible bass playing. I'd also recommend Waterfront and Up On The Catwalk which both have an epic 80's pop/rock sound.

This is their mainstream stuff, the earlier stuff is better "Love Song" "Waterfront" and quite a few others.....One of the best vocalists.

A suggestion, but first just want to say love Simple Minds, they along with TFF and U2 (of course) were up there, but there was so much cool innovative stuff happening and MTV really did play music. Please do Basia, she and Danny White did so many great tunes during a span in the 80s, 90s. Many of them on the pop charts (Time and Tide) (Cruisin' for Bruising) and other that are just great tunes, like Copernicus, Brave New Hope. We were lucky to catch a show and watch her band perform up close and they sounded better than on their record. So that's my suggestion.

Been asking for “Time And Tide”. Maybe if they get enough requests?

As much as “Don’t Forget About Me “ is their most popular song it’s only a fraction of the band. This is more representative of the band and their style.

Belfast Child is brilliant. It's much slower but very moody, with a slight Irish vibe. Oh and Waterfront is fantastic. You'll LOVE the bass line.

It is a uplifting song. Simple Minds always gave me a Police, U2, Peter Gabriel vibe. That eighties sound, with impactful messages in their songs. They have a lot of great music to check out though. Here's some of my favorites. All The Things She Said Waterfront Up On The Catwalk Street Fighting Years Someone, Somewhere In Summertime Sanctify Yourself

Great reaction. Took me right back to my late teens. I used to play this song on a loop! Your next Simple Minds stop should maybe be: 'All The Things She Said' or 'Sanctify Yourself' - I don't think you'll be disappointed with either. Four decades on, Simple Minds are still touring btw! Still with founding members, Jim Kerr (lead vocalist) and Charlie Burchill (guitarist)...and Jim is still too cool for school lol.

This song gives such an expansive and powerful feeling of invincibility and was so deeply a part of my musical journey. I was in high school at the time this came out and still love it just as much today. Even if you just listen to their album, New Gold Dream '81, '82, '83, '84 for yourselves, please do! I think it's their best, honestly. The bass lines in the tracks are incredible. It's one of those CDs that I still put on and listen to over and over before I turn it off.
