One of my favourite things on this build, believe it or not, is the exhaust. It reminds me of an oldschool ford fiesta or something. Little flamethrowing peashooter. So sentimental. Loved the gearshift knob aswell. Excellent build and all that hard work paid off...Quite literally ✅ Crazy journey you embarked on & my hat goes off to you and all who helped. Thanks for the inspiration, look forward to seeing more

Sorry to hear it was long gone. That peerless 700 would have gotten you a lot faster if you increased the size of the sprocket just a little. Looks like it was fun though. If you ever want a kart that will really fly just slap a motorcycle engine on it. Va Voom.

@bignickthegreat9 жыл бұрын
1. Honda gx340 engine 2. no significant mods other the governor delete and exhaust 3. stock carburetor 4. don't be fooled, that shift knob is labeled correctly for the chevy 4 speed car it came from, not the go kart. just added that knob for looks. it's a 5 speed with reverse removed

If you plan on doing a project like this in the future you could use a manual centrifugal clutch with a chain and sprockets instead of a tensioner on your drive belt. This will give you less chance of clutch slip and it will be alot easier to put together

wow nice! i have a toro mower im getting ready to turn into a go kart & it has that same trans on it, i was wondering if it could be shifted like that! thats freakin awesome. what size drive & driven pulleys are you using & how many horsepower engine?
@bignickthegreat10 жыл бұрын
Mine is a 11hp honda gx340, I used 4 inch pulleys on both the engine and the trans, making it 1:1 ratio. I wish i would have used something like a 1:2 ratio (meaning like a 6 inch on the engine and 3 inch on the trans) because it would have put less stress on the belt and trans and I would have used a larger axle sprocket. As far as from the trans to your axle, you are gonna have to calculate that for yourself.
@SnowWolfJones10 жыл бұрын
i found a lil 3hp push mower engine for it & was gonna just put a pulley in place of the blade but then i found out the original 7 or 9hp is still around & runs, so i'll be able to get my hands on that & go from there.
@SnowWolfJones10 жыл бұрын

Hi buddy just finished watching all the build videos they are awesome I liked them a lot. I am planning on building a shifter kart with a kawasaki kx80 engine and would like to know some measurements like length, total width and ground clearance and the width of the frame. Also would like to know if you would do something differently if you built another one like this. Cheers bro I subbed. Oh and if this double posts it's thanks to google+ happens to me quite usually.
@bignickthegreat10 жыл бұрын
well i am out of town right now so i cant tell you measurements but I just built it to fit me comfortably. Whatever length i felt like was good was what it was. The frame height is the center of the axles so if i have 18" tall wheels i have roughly 9" of clearance. If I had to go back, I would have spent more money on the brakes because my junkyard hydraulic master cylinder was junk. Take time to make sure everything is square and parallel. Thats what can really screw up a kart build. And thanks for watching!

@bignickthegreat9 жыл бұрын
Faisal Abdulaziz uhhh, i would say not likely. I am already overloading the trans for my application which is both half the weight and half the HP of what you want to do... Neat build, came across this searching I’ve thought of doing similar with an little Toro wheel horse I have. It’s 8 horse Briggs with peerless 5 speed manual. Also considered on a bike frame. Working on vintage minibike now with 7 horse chain drive. It’s fast as heck. It’s predator 212 hahbah-fright engine. I’m considering do I have the testicles for header, intake and air filter and bigger jet, because it’s blazing quick now and steers way fast. So, for those asking, peerless manual 5 speeds I know were in small Toro riders with 25” single blade deck. Rear engine small snapper-looking (Forrest Gump rode snapper) without octagonal steering wheel Toro is one donor. I’d like to know what horse motor he has, any special jetting, and can he take off dead stop in 2nd and go into 5th, can he skip a gear. Is it syncronized, my toro wheel horse 8-25 mower hasn’t ran in so long, I cannot recall if you can skip gears.

EJ Graft exactly right it's the entire lower of a lawn mower. If you look, it's a Peerless transaxle. Same as on all the MTD mowers now, just a little older. Made by Tecumseh. They work good for a while but they are prone to blowing apart because they aren't made for any kind of speed.
