There's something about the Tahu model that doesn't feel Tahu: I think the biggest part is the extra mass of the sloped shoulders/hood and the crest on top. The Toa Mata are not militaristic: they're much closer to philosopher-demigods than other toa. I've always held up Onua as my favorite of the toa. He has always been portrayed as the most even-handed and wise, calling conclaves and mediating between others. His faith in the others, like rescuing Lewa, is also a constant. The fact that he initially looks scary is even better, because he's probably the most wholesome out of all the Toa Mata.

Out of all of the Toa Mata, Tahu is portrayed as the most combative. He's a bit of a hotheaded warrior among the Toa Mata. Making him a samurai still feels fine to me (when paired with making Lewa a ninja).

00:49 Kopaka has always been my favourite and I love how imposing he looks in this. His entire posture; the way he struts, how he carries his sword and shield. He almost looks like an archangel coming down to vanquish evil. 03:35 At first I was unsure what to think of this design for Tahu, but honestly; it has really grown on me. The moment it clicked for me was when I realised what he reminds me of; he's a Samurai! As somebody previously commented; the Toa are not just warriors, but scholars as well. I think the Samurai esthetic really fits this, especially for the Toa of Fire. 06:26 This version of Onua shows off the mechanical nature of Bionicle so beautifully. The elbows look so much like hydraulic joints and I love the long mechanical claws. What brings it together so well is the original mask. It gives a kindness to this hulking, somewhat creepy figure that's just perfect for Onua. 08:16 Pohatu was my second favourite Bionicle as a child and this rendition really is something else. The greatest thing to me is the interplay of the light and dark brown armour pieces and their shapes; it reminds me so much of sun-baked rock jutting out from between sand dunes. The leg design is great as well. It's athletic without looking heavy and there's an almost goat-like aspect to them. You can perfectly imagine him jumping between rocks, vaulting off a cliff and kicking a Borok in the face. 11:03 This piece beautifully brings to the forefront what I always found lacking in the official renditions of Gali; her elegance. The compactness of her torso, the decision to keep her limbs slim and unencumbered by armour, the more flowing lines in her hip an thigh area and most of all the way she's positioned on her base all work together to give her the appearance not just of a swimmer, but a dancer. She looks nimble and light, almost weightless as you are under water, but still strong and dynamic. 13:08 This is quite a heavy set version of Leva, but it strangely works very well. Like with Tahu, there is something Japanese about him, but in his case, it's more a Ninja than a Samurai. Moving swiftly and silently, remaining undetected until jumping in from above; it's perfect for the Toa of Air. There's also a somewhat dark comic book hero vibe about this design, which I really appreciate.

Pretty much exactly my thoughts. Pohatu gets a bit of a race car look as well, with his back looking like a series of engine blocks almost all the way from head to 'toe'.

Onua's design I really dig (no pun intended.) I like how you mentioned he has those big soft eyes, because despite his imposing posture he really doesn't look sinister. I imagine a gentle giant sort of character, which I feel is pretty appropriate for him.

Awesome work on each Toa Mata, they look so good, Tahu's Hau remind me of a samurai Kabuto to be honest; Kopaka's ribbon makes me think that he's wearing it as a gift from Matoro, or a sort of accolade, like Saint-14's purple ribbons from Destiny; Onua really does look like a massive excavation machine springing to life really good design; Pohatu finally shows here how he could really be, aerodynamic and *showing* that he has kicks to reduce an opponent to "bricks"; Gali really does look good with the scuba diver asthetic, though I gotta say, I still like those climbing hooks/axes, also I might look too much into it, but the detail/pattern on Gali's chest looks to me like a larger hand socket's silhouette, the one she originally has, or alternatively really good job translating that hand socket piece to a sort of vest, and the golden rings might could be like connectors on the oxygen tubes perhaps; and Lewa, the Metal Gear design brought over really does look good, my initial take though, with the pose, the armored silhouette and the weapon reminded me more of the Monkey King, or other warrior character from chinese or other asian mythologies. All in all, really great work, but I really shouldn't watch these, 'cause man I really would like to build something like these, but I don't have anything to work with. In any case, thank for showing these, and keep up the good work!👍

This is absolutely a Kaita Civil War Team Wairuha: Kopaka, Gali, and Lewa are pure heroes, beacons of light and all that is good, always doing what's right no matter the struggle they must endure Team Akamai: Tahu, Onua, and Pohatu have clearly been corrupted, willing to do whatever's necessary, no matter the cost, they've sold pieces of their souls for greater power

Actually, on the topic of which characters hasve been re-released the most times, Tahu takes the first place with 6 incarnations (Mata, Nuva, Mistika, and Stars versions, plus Master and Uniter from Gen 2) The other 5 original toa share a second place with 5 incarnations (all the above mentioned minus Stars) If we disregard Gen 2 then the numbers fall to 4 for Tahu, and 3 for the other 5. In that case Tahu shares the first place with 4 other characters that have each been released 4 times, namely Jaller, Matoro, and Hewkii (McToran, KohliiToran, Inika, and Mahri), as well as Takua/Takanuva (KohliiToran Takua, Takanuva Classic, Twilight Takanuva from 2008, and Stars takanuva) Second place within Gen 1, at 3 incarnations each, would then be shared by the other 5 original toa (Mata, Nuva, Phantoka/Mistika), as well as the original 6 turaga (Turaga, Toa Metru, Hordika) and Kongu and Nuparu (McToran, Inika, Mahri), and Hahli (KohliiToran, Inika, Mahri), meaning a whole 14 characters that have been released 3 times each.

Technically wrong on Tahu, Pohatu, and Lewa. Pohatu and Lewa released as separate and new models in the Rockoh and Axalara respectively, giving them 6 total releases, whereas Tahu actually got 8 official models, 7 if you don't count the Creator anniversary version of him. Dont forget the GWP!

Those are awesome. They've inspired me to finish off my old art project of a human set Bionicle world. I drew up all the Toa, but only managed 4 Turaga before I burned myself out on the project. I certainly prefer the humany world over my old design of humans transforming into the Toa. Kinda like Noah armours up with Mirage in the new Transformers film.

I love all of these. Maybe I’m nerding out a little too much by diving into what I like and dislike about each one, but screw it, they’re just that good (and honestly I don’t have too many nitpicks). Kopaka. He’s perfect in that form. Like seriously, that couldn’t have been a better reimagining of his design. The fur pelt-like cloak with the red flag wrapped around his left arm is honestly what I would’ve thought of if I was the one redesigning him, but I don’t think I could’ve gotten it *that* good. Tahu having a sort of knightly or noble appearance about his armor and mask/helmet really is a fitting choice. Maybe it’s just me, but I always saw Ta-Koro as the closest to a castle in the Mata Nui story arcs. Yeah, it’s a fortress-like village, but it was never explicitly said to be a castle the likes of LEGO’s traditional visions of what castles should be. Enter Tahu’s redesign to prop that up, complete with a knight’s plume and visor, plus a dashing-as-heck cape and pair of boots. Ta-Koro basically has its own champion knight. Onua. Where do I begin? This was honestly the one I was most disappointed in the look of when I first discovered the Toa Mata/Nuva, but then I still liked it for the tweaks to the “normal” Toa design he had back in the early 2000s. It did say “live underground, work hard, fight with my fists,” back then. This redesign just turns LEGO’s triple of a design into a grand slam, complete with arms that actually look ready to shake the ground with a couple of swipes. Creepy? Yeah, gotta agree. But for some reason it also gives a sense of stoic wisdom from him. Pohatu’s redesign certainly takes the sense of speed that he’s been depicted as possessing to the max. I don’t know what I was expecting before I saw him in the video, but I can definitely say the front view says a few fitting things: tall, muscular but still slim, and probably able to give Usain Bolt a challenge. Back view is fine, I was a little caught off guard though, and really that’s the only drawback about that one in my mind. Gali. I could be wrong on account of some bias and obsession over little things when I say this. That said, I feel like Gali has officially always ended up looking either very robotic (Mata and Nuva), very amphibian (Mistika) or very fishlike (rebooted toyline with the fins). For once, this just has “graceful, agile swimmer” written all over it. And it gets the point of Gali being female across much better, in my opinion, than LEGO has ever been able to do officially (I had thought about going into greater detail but… uh… I kinda ended up rambling a bit too much at first). Also, the LotR ring pieces on the torso might suggest either an ornament of some kinds of clasps to attach equipment to a diver’s wetsuit. Lastly, our loved Lewa, last but certainly not least favorite. I’m gonna say one thing: superhero. Lewa, in this rendition, looks like a superhero and I love it. The boots, the torso build, the arms, the kama on the outsides of the hips, they all give him a look that says, “What if Bionicle had superhero suits instead of armor?” And I’m not complaining *one single bit.* I love it. It’s probably my second favorite of the redesigns next to Gali, but the swords and Gali having a flail instead of her twin hooks make me seriously wonder if he’s not my favorite. All in all, I love all six of them. Bionicle in the 2000s was amazing, but these reimagined designs? Wow. That’s above and beyond, and I love it

They need to do a new bionicle run built like these, maybe even a series or movie.

This is actually really cool. Five or six years ago I decided to dig through my Lego bin end build a unique Bionicle from every part that I found. He's been on display on my shelf ever since. Where do I go to post pictures?

Notice how each one is distinguishable by its mask. Lego could release complex Toa sets but retain the original masks and they would be Bionicle. imo Bionicle 2016 didn't feel the same because it just looked like Hero Factory but with Bionicle names slapped on them.
