Hi Dave, fantastic info in this video! This info is valid for all industries. I’m in business for over 25 years, not in the car cleaning business but also automotive related and this info would have been great to know 25 years ago when I started out. So everybody starting up a business right now can benefit from this wisdom. The key is indeed, keep your pricing as high as possible (although this might sound wrong and greedy) and try to select your customers. Thank you Dave and keep up these fantastic video’s. A great, amazing video, telling how it is, I don't talk to any other valeters but in the past I've had a few people ask me questions about starting out, the area I'm in is brutal, I told them not to start in this area or you will regret it and end up in debt, 2 of them did regret it and end up debt, the other valeter stopped due to health issues, I hate to be negative! Go to an area where there is money, do some research because otherwise no matter how good your work is, you will be fighting for peanuts, working your behind off all hours 7 days a week trying to make ends meet.

@@epicautomotivedetailing - Perfect approach and proper way of thinking Dave! 💪🏻🤩👍🏻 I think it was the right decision for you (despite of that we don’t know each other in person and I could only see you on the screen so far). 😊 I believe in that we have to listen to our true calling, our hearts and follow that, no matter what, as it’s the only way to become happy and live a fulfilled life. 😊 I always felt I don’t want to die remembering I got stuck in a job (or few jobs) for life, like many people, which is quite well paid, kind of well respected, but making me miserable and bitter, destroying my soul every single moment and ignoring that all of the cells in my body shouting/screaming “It’s killing me!!!” - just because I was afraid to quit. Even if I fail... at least I tried and can’t think about “It could have been better”... Blamed myself many times feeling “If I stayed there we still would have x, y and z”, but I know it had to happen like this, I had to leave, because I want to follow my dreams. I am kind of okay, just need a bit of rest, got extremely tired of the never-ending grind and constant tail-chasing, that made me forget my real dreams and aspirations. I was just running around continuously like a headless chicken to be able to complete all my tasks to the highest possible standards, but it got me absolutely nowhere and ultimately just badly damaged my health and family life. I am more than happy and willing to work like crazy, but I want to feel that it’s worth it. I am also very-very fortunate (like you) to have a wonderful loving and caring wife who always supports me in my crazy ideas and look-a-like insane passion for cars. 😊 I wish you lots of success and happiness Dave, I hope you’ll find your happy place in life with this new adventure! And remember... Even if you won’t, there will be dirty cars always everywhere, doesn’t matter how expensive or technically advanced they will be in the future, they won’t self-clean themselves and proper cleaning never will be possible without the human touch... you have everything; the skills, equipment, expertise, connections, supporting Family... so you can get your previous job back at any time you want it, therefore it’s absolutely failure-proof! I believe that it was the right move Dave, this is going to be your way, you’ll make it there Don Dave, the Godfather of Detailing! 🤩🤜🏻💥🤛🏻😉

The general principle is the following in every free lance job: charge more, you are respected and the customer has the feeling that is provided with premium services. Charge less, you are treated like you are financially desperate even though your service is top notch.

Preach. I saw this with a chicken and burger shop I worked in. Made great food, hand made burgers etc. They were only £3.50 to begin with and barely sold. He put them up to £5.50 and suddenly they were popular. It reflected that it was actually a good product at a fair price instead of appearing like a good product at a "too cheap to be true" price

So ... from this video, I'm guessing a rusty bucket of cold water with a squeeze of W5 range Lidl washing up liquid and an old sponge won't cut it? 😅

Hi Dave, I was a self employed gardener and most of the time got paid cash. I done a small garden clearance for somebody charged £100. when they paid me cash,in twenty's they slipped a tenner in the middle of the notes instead of a twenty. Lucky I checked it in front of them (they didn't like it being pulled up). the moral to this story is what ever trade you do ALWAYS ALWAYS count your money in front of them. Because there are one or two nasty people out there.
@epicautomotivedetailing2 жыл бұрын
Don't think many people pay cash anymore. Most clients pay into bank thankfully. I seen my fair share of villains in my time

Hello mate. Honestly use a mobile car valeter instead of a hand car wash. car valeters do extensive research into products which you wont get at any car wash. Valeters are unique

“You don’t want to be using expensive products on cheap cars” (and vice versa). Are lower end cars not worthy of the same tlc and quality products as high end cars? 🤔
@epicautomotivedetailing2 жыл бұрын
Depends on scenario. I have awful cars at lower end of scale and I use the posh stuff. Just depends what clients willing to pay

wow thanks for the fountain of knowledge you passed on I'll bare it in mind. I was once told theirs no money in cleaning I guess Ill just have to wait and see but theirs in some cases no respect for the valeter or cleaner. Makes my blood boil. I ain't getting owned. my price will be my price and if you can't afford it jog on. I think setting your price nice and high filters out the cheaky ones. thanks for the knowledge dave some propper big brother advice top man. also go in too cheap and youll upset other valeters or detailers as their trying to feed their families off this buisness don't forget. so get it right and stick to your guns litterally.
@epicautomotivedetailing2 жыл бұрын
Yes mate. Trust me by sticking with your price your telling the customer nobody can compete with you. You get what you're worth. Admittedly not everyone will take to that but sometimes some clients just are not worth the agro

@@epicautomotivedetailing I've taken your advice and when I do my naighbours cars i've upped my price by a fiver now I know this isn't much but he does like me to do a through job. on the last time I did it he pointed out about the glass well I did. it was a hot day and I struggled to get a good finish so I did reaserch and took your advice wet shami worked a treat and I showed him the glass he was happy the next time so thankyou! however like you say let people take you for a ride and they will take you for a long one. Yes I take pride in my work but theirs always that type of customer that says youv'e missed abit. To which I reply but I got the other 99.9 % though didn't I? He actually gave me some car cleaning products and in return I baught him some nice new cheap matts from home bargains. baring in mind I was doing his car for £15 it must cost me a few pennis in water. but i am not a buisness yet and just seeing if i'm any good and you know what I aint bad and I love it. sorry for the long one.
