-------------------------------------
In the years following independence, the newly-formed United States of America look westward for their expansion, hoping to conquer territory and sell off land to eager European settlers.
Its first target is the vast, resource-rich 'Northwest Territory', stretching from the Appalachian Mountains to the Mississippi River. But this is not vacant land - thousands of native people from numerous tribes call these valleys and forests home, and will fight to protect it.
As violence flares along the frontier and negotiations fail, President Washington and the US decide to take the territory by force... but they have fatally underestimated their enemy.
This is the full story of the 'Northwest Indian War' and the Battle of the Wabash... America's first military defeat.

@@DolphineAchonga-gn6kn The only part where I disagree is the assumption that the change is bad. I personally find it refreshing - by now, Charles has at least some baggage for the stuff they've narrated over the years, and I just appreciate the reminder to the rest of the world that they're a team and that it's collective work that we're enjoying, discussing and find so stimulating. Plus, you forget; American history, american historians. Indian historians from the Americas, even better. To listen to a British accent explaining this would be like listening to Charles, or even worse this narrator, explaining Napoleonic history - enjoyable, sure, but somehow wrong to anyone who hasn't gotten their history education exclusively in English - and by now, thankfully, to many of those that have. Wrong, or at the very least as biased as the dissonance would have you expect, since unlike this war, Britain had her filthy long hands all over the French revolutionary wars, so they've done a much more thorough job locally of analysing it - in many cases, a uniquely possible job, as it's British museums and institutions that keep many artefacts and primary sources from the time. These channels have expanded too much, thematically and geographically, for one narrator. For my part, I welcome the diversity, even as I look forward to hearing more of Charles' thoroughly enjoyable narration. The two aren't mutually exclusive after all, by any means.

In Canada, especially in Quebec where I grew up, this chapter of history is very well explained from our point of view. What is missing in this documentary (but would make it too long), is the background of why the Northwestern region was depleted of permanent European population when every square inch was part of New France. Indeed, there were permanent French population in the area until 1701, with the great peace of Montreal in which the French accepted to stop settling the area west of Ottawa river in exchange for the Iroquois stopping attacking the numerous indigenous allies of France and stopping to trade with the English. This temporarily weakened the English but they were able to conquer us in 1760. Most of our elite decided to leave for France, but we decided to stay because this is our country and we are never going to leave it. So the British decided to withhold the 1701 Treaty with the Act of Quebec in 1774 which triggered the American war of independence. With the independence of the USA and their enormous debt, the Americans didn’t feel bound to the treaty that we, the French, have signed with these nations a century before.

By this period, white settlers, militiamen, hunters/trappers, etc., also used the tomahawk with as much regularity as did the Native Americans. In fact, it was the European settlers who had introduced metal-bladed (iron and steel) tomahawks to the Indians in the first place. In many ways the tomahawk replaced the sword on the frontier. They became status symbols, and the quality of workmanship on them would reach a very high level. Some of the nicest ones were pipe tomahawks or "pipe-hawks", which had a tobacco pipe on the head opposite the blade-end, and the haft was hollowed out such that you could smoke out of it. They're really quite beautiful things! A fine surviving specimen is the pipe tomahawk that belonged to Meriwether Lewis (1774-1809) of the Lewis & Clark Expedition. You can look it up. The personal tomahawk of the Shawnee warlord Tecumseh also survives. It's one that had just been presented to him by a British general not long before his death in battle, so it's in really good condition for being over 200 years old. Same goes for the Lewis tomahawk.

My mom raised me to love this country and to respect and appreciate the rights granted to us and the privileges that with being an American citizen. At the same time she also instilled into me a deep seeded respect for the Native people and their culture and history. My mom is Italian and doesn't have ANY Native blood in her but as long as I can remember she loved all things Native. So much so that 2 of the houses I grew up in she had completely decked out the living rooms in beautiful Native paintings, wood carved decorations like totem poles and even an intricate spear. She even painted the living that desert like color of those ancient native clay huts in the desert regions of America and that ancient village with houses carved into the side of a cliff. I can remember how excited I was in 2nd grade when we were assigned to create a Native long house. I had always been a WWII fan since 11 and that's when I watched the movie Windtalkers, which told the story of how the U.S. used the help of Navajo Natives to pass coded vital information because the Japanese had no idea what language the Americans.wwre using. I watched that movie a.hindred times as a kid. Many people aren't aware just how deeply imbedded Native culture is within American culture. Hell, it was a unified Confederacy of 6 Native tribes who decided to work together to govern which was the motivation behind Benjamin Franklin, George Washington, Thomas Jefferson and many others creation of the Constitution. Also, Americas adoption of the Bald Eagle as our National symbol was because the bald eagle was the Iroquois nations symbol. The respect and admiration that I was taught to have for the Natives of America is exactly what I will one day teach my kids to have for them.

Other people having opinions that differ to your own is not "unreasonable". It's quite understandable that people who follow a channel narrated entirely by 1 person and dependent on that narration would be upset at having it changed up. It's no more acceptable than random windows updates that rams unwanted features on the users. I'm not against new narrators specifically, but they would have to clear a very very high bar to match the previous one in terms of ability. If you have to make a change it better be a damn good one.

10:55 It has always baffled me me how Native American names, when translated to English, are sometimes translated by "meaning" rather than "pronounciation". For example, Michikinikwa means "The Turtle" So in english they translated his name to "Little Turtle" to distinguish from his father, who also had the same name. However, if we look at George Washington's name, it comes from the Greek Geórgios which means Earth-worker. But it would be weird to call him President Earthworker, so the variant George is used. It's so strange how the Native American names have been translated by meaning rather than creating a variant that sounds similar. I don't know if this was done because it was easier to remember their names or it was a form of oppression to make their names sound funny. Anyways, thank you for stating their Native American names as well as their English names.

This narrator has potential (though I prefer the usual one). I would personally prefer a bit faster pace and emphasis limited on the truly significant moments. As a voice actor myself, some of the reads are too forced, artificial and can be distracting from the material. The narrator is supposed to support the subject, not compete with it. Just work on sounding more natural, being yourself and you’ll do better. Hope this helps! :)
