I am so sick of hearing that the victim asked for it. I don't care how a person is dressed or how one acts, no one deserves to be abused, molested, or raped. There are people who are mentally unhealthy also who are abused because they are weak or have a mental health diagnosis and behave inappropriately... There are NO excuses to cross physical or emotional boundaries. I agree with you 1 million % on this painful issue. Rape infects the soul and can destroy the soul... one may become a SURVIVER of rape or molestation, but there life and mental health is forever affected. A part of the spirit dies...

May Allah have mercy on her soul- the trauma of rape plus the added stigma, lack of support & the person who said this cruel thing to her must have drove her to such action - nobody behaves like that except they are in such emotional pain. Suicide is not condoned in Islam but we are not in that girl's situation...so all we can do is pray to Allah for the soul of anybody who felt compelled to commit suice. May Allah protect us from such a fate & cause us to pass away in a good way & in a state of iman

Sexual abuse or molest in muslim societies is appalling. I am so glad Sheikh Yasir has spoken up on behalf of its victims. If the person who does is a relative or father or brother or uncle it is INCEST. Mothers - if your child tells you something like this please do not ignore - do whatever you can to help your child. Telling your child to keep quiet is not helping. May Allah protect us from such calamaties.

I know the shaikh is not an expert on christianity, so just a minor correction. The Nicean creed stated that the father and son were the same essence, however it did not state the spirit was the same essence. This is why it is often mentioned that nicean creed was binitarian. The council of constantinopal in 381, redefined the creed to include the spirit as the same essence as the father and son

I would like you to talk about mercy killing of teenage girls where their male relatives kill them just because the girl has a boyfriend. Sometimes it's not even true. One father goes so far as to decapitate his daughter while she was asleep. This happened on.a Muslim land and I'm sure it's an on going trauma.

Mr. Yasir is so good with psychological manipulation with words. He always, first say undermining things about classical Islamic scholars implying that majority of them are wrong, then he talks about non-muslim western scholars positively, presenting their works as more "academic", "in-depth" thus implying that those are more reliable, at last, he affirms Quran's claims so it pleases the heart of his Muslim audience and they keep listening to them. Thus, he psychologically primes them to distrust Muslim scholars so that in the future his Reformist ideas are accepted by the Muslim public.

Also in 4th century Arabia, their was Christian movement that emerged called "Collyridianism". Little is known about them but the group is known to offered small bread cakes to the Virgin Mary as a form of worship, the practice may have originated from Pagan goddess worship traditions. Bishop Epiphanius of Salamis mentioned "Collyridianism too far in making Mary a Divine figure this was happening at the same time as maryan devotion was starting to become more common in early Christianity". Also the Catholic Church at the Council of Ephesus in 431declared Marry "Theotokos" or "The Mother of God", Their was even an approved prayer the went "Under thy protection we seek refuge, Holy Mother of God" . Later Dogma also stated the Church believed This dogma states that Mary was assumed into heaven with body and soul. If this isn't Christian Worship Maryam (as) then I don't know what is, so this polemetical line of attack never made sense to me.

There is a misrepresentation of the Hanbali position. The Madhhab is that a rapist who is unmarried is to be lashed and exiled, and one that is married is stoned, similar to the Zani. The Sheikh here makes it seem like capital punishment is the ruling in both cases, which is inaccurate.

I did not comment on the Sheikh’s opinion nor do I frankly care what he believes. All I mentioned was that he misrepresented the Hanbali Madhhab’s view on the issue. If you don’t believe me, you can find the Mu’tamad position of our Madhhab in the following books: Kashaf al-Qina’ and Sharh al-Muntaha both Al-Allamah Mansur al-Buhuti (r). The Sheikh is not an expert in the Madhhab by any sense of the word (even he will agree with this).

Jazaka Allahu Khairan Though according to my humble understanding. Rape in most cases is considered Hiraba. Which is punishable by death in the Quran Al-Kareem. I think the only case in which it’s treated as Zina is if it included deceiving the victim without force but with no consent when the actual intercourse takes place. In this case it is treated as Zina and some Madhahib also mandate a compensation (an equivalent of the Mahar) As long as the victim was not a child/ was not unconscious/ was not in the security of their home / was afraid for their safety ...etc in which case it is Hiraba (punishable by death)

Most rapists - may go on to commit rape a few times ...until they get caugt or get incacerated for something else or get sick or die. So i think death penalty protect society from the possible future rapes the rapist may commit if he was released back into society. In my country singapore - there was a case of a rapist who served his sentence ( many years) & had counselling etc & when released in his late 50s ...came out into society & raped molested young girls again...so they had to incacerate him again. So tax money keeping this guy alive..till he pass away of natural old age..sexual predators tend to have this problem for life...not to mention the impact on the victim - death truly is a just punishment -- i had 2 friends who was raped.

Sexual abuse is pretty common in Muslim countries regardless of gender. Daughters abused by their fathers are rare but not absent. Boys are molested or sexually abused by their madrasah teachers. Astagfirullah. May Allah protect our children and our adult sisters from this traumatic experience, which is enough to destroy one's entire life.

I think i saw a talk on how rape & molest rates are very high in muslim countries. It was in a different short video by Sheikh Yasir Qadhi about rape punishment in Islam. He qouted a study covering 1000 women surveyed - the result was almost 99% experience sexual assault of some kind. It was egypt i think.Its very sad. I strongly believe that this happens in other muslim countries too. Of course all countries have this issue but sadly in muslim countries this is more hidden - so it appears less worse than non muslim countries. As muslims we have to ask ourselves what is going on with how we raise our sons that this be haviour is ok & why a muslim family thinks it is ok to cover up for pepretor?

On Sexual Abuse issue, the stats you quoted is shocking. But as an academic, you should state your source, and the date, and publisher of the research given you have said all that you said. Data manipulation is not uncommon even in academia. And the reliability of data analysis hugely depends on source and publisher/journal.
