Some whisky there was just..."burney"....but a couple others changed my opinion of what whisky could be.....now I actually enjoy whisky neat because I found what I like. The one that changed my opinion that night was Glenmorangie Lasanta. Later I got into Islay scotch...and later on I finally found some American whiskeys that I enjoy. My favorite regular sipping whisky this month is probably Ardbeg 10 year. Nothing too extravagant. Smokey, warm, good.

Try a decent single malt scotch that's fairly smoked. I only like whiskys that are at least somewhat smoky because they mask the ethanol taste very well. The more creamy, often irish ones, "dessert whiskys" I cannot stand, the combination of that with the taste of ethanol is nauseating. Whisky is the only spirit that I'll drink neat, because a good one doesn't taste like solvent unlike most other types of spirits.

Honestly I wish they did this for all their videos. At least for the beer tasting video there were a lot of people in the comments who could help identify the beers based on the bottle/can, price per beer, and the descriptions given by the expert (for example, the wheat beers he tasted were Allagash White and Blue Moon). This video put them all in decanters instead of just removing the labels from the bottles so you couldn't even make guesses based on that kind of information. They could probably make a good amount of extra money too if they partnered with a distributor and provided affiliate links in the description. It would be great to be able to receive an expert review like this on the product, comparing the cheap to the expensive side by side, and then make an informed purchase with that information. It even sounded like she preferred the cheaper rye whiskey for something to just drink when you wanted a rye (listen to the description she gave at 8:57), but right as she was about to say it they did the jump cut at 9:18 where they revealed the prices. I'd really like to know what that cheaper rye whiskey was since it sounds like she thought it was a great value from all the descriptions she gave to it.

Way late but here's a handy tip: Open your mouth a bit and inhale with both your nose and your mouth at the same time. The reason for this is that if you inhale through your nose with your mouth closed, then you're sucking alcohol vapours into your sinus cavity and then giving them nowhere to go so all you smell is burn. With your mouth open, you create a passthrough airflow out of your sinus cavity and pull the alcohol through, leaving room for the spirit's aromatic notes to get noticed. You also can vary the distance you bring your nose to the glass, because the further you are the more the alcohol evaporates into the air above the glass instead of going up your nose and masking the flavours. The shape of the glass you're smelling from also has DRAMATIC impacts on the smell of the whisk(e)y, with a narrower opening making the smell more focused and intensed (including the alcohol) so maybe try different containers to find one you like. It takes a bit of practice but everyone's got a sweet spot where they're not just huffing moonshine fumes. I still haven't gotten past tasting 85% wet fire, though.
@4Distractiononly4 жыл бұрын
Not everyone has a good nose, it's not just snobby. You can practice at it though and the more exposure, the more you can detect. Try blindfolded at home. And like above comments, breathe it in, most of it is in the way the aroma passes over the tongue and back towards the mouth from the nose.

Obviously Im not sure wether the girl is addicted or not, and certainly is not on me to try to change what she does. But saying "I love you" becuse of a clearly bad habit is a good way to escalate a potential problem. Well the number speaks for themselves.

@raph891173 жыл бұрын
you generally dont get these notes right away, alcohol is overpowering everything in the beginning you need to aclimate to the high proof, in the beginning dont be afraid to lower the proof yourself adding some water or even ice, but keep in mind that the higher the proof the more complex is the whiksey (generally). Also in the beginning having 2 different whiskeys side by side helps a lot identifying differences thus making you notice the flavors. keep in mind that you cannot identify a flavor youve never been in contact with, like if youve never ate and apple you cant associate anything to the taste of apple. The more things you try the better your baseline for comparing flavors.
