As someone who is learning to do this, if you think you can't do this, you'd be surprised at how easy it is to at least start! Beginning palette training is easily done with lots of ingredients that you can pick up anywhere, some of which you may even have right now at home. I began my palette training simply by setting aside 3 cups of water, adding a pinch of sugar to one, adding a pinch of salt to the other, and then leaving the other as is. Mix up the glasses, take small sips, see if you can identify which has which. For an extra challenge, take those same 3 glasses, mix 2 of them in 3 separate glasses, and see if you can identify what the mix is. You'd be surprised by how easy, and fun, it can be. We also do palette training with fruit, vegetables, nuts, chocolate, and herbs. We also do scent training, which can be a little pricey for the kit, but if you're looking for a new hobby that you just might turn into something more, I really suggest it! Good luck to you!

I've honestly never heard a wine expert disparage cheaper wines, and I've been around wine and wine people for more than a decade now. I've heard some people do that while trying to pretend they're a wine expert, but never anybody who is actually knowledgeable. I think wine by its very nature encourages people to be in good cheer and want to be good company, and the quality of cheap wine today is so much better than it has ever been. There's some really good value wines. Can you get better paying more? Sure. Is that always worth it? No. I'd rather drink the cheap stuff every day and get to afford the nicer stuff for special occasions. I like to get a nice well-aged Barolo for my birthday every year, as a present to myself, and share it with good company, but am I going to bust out a really expensive wine to drink with my pasta and meatballs on a Thursday night? Nah. $8 bottle goes down just fine, even if my spaghetti is handmade with saffron, and the meatballs are from three different kinds of animals, simmering in a pot with homemade tomato sauce for a couple hours developing a ton of flavor. A good value wine holds up fine to just about everything, and any real expert would acknowledge that. Experts aren't made of money, and they obviously like wine enough to want it all the time so it should be obvious they drink more of the cheaper stuff than almost anyone. They just know they can get a lot out of the really good stuff when they can get it, and they know how to find the really good values in cheaper wine they drink all the time.

Now I know there's an actual reason for the stereotype of the rich guy swirling about the wine in his glass all the time. It actually helps with the taste - thanks for the information, you evidently have a lot of chemistry knowledge and enthusiasm for your field. Keep up the good work and keep breaking that image! :)
@fakecubed5 жыл бұрын
You'll see beer and whisky drinkers do the same. All those volatile chemicals get released by the kinetic action and start to oxidize. Whisky drinkers will also sometimes add a couple drops of water into a glass to help open it up. The reason wine glasses are the shapes they are, is to help keep the aromas from escaping. They stay in the bowl and get inhaled by the nose and mouth while smelling or sipping. Generally, and especially with a nice bottle of wine that's aged long enough to develop a lot of complex aromas, you will want to decant a bottle, or at a minimum open the bottle for a while before pouring it, to allow the air to start mixing with the wine. There's always a sweet spot where the wine reaches its pinnacle after the bottle is opened, but before it oxidizes too much.

I’m not saying the editing is bad I’m just saying you don’t need to have a camera cut every 3 seconds. I counted Edit: it has come to my attention that these cuts are likely a way for the editors to take out a lot of vocal pauses. While that makes for a great audio flow, it really is visually distracting, and perhaps there was a happy medium between taking all of them out and leaving all of them in.

@@MisterNohbdy okay. I'm obviously not a film editor. Do they have to swap angles when they do that? It's the flipping around of perspective that kind of makes it challenging to watch. Or is it just too weird to cut out those extra words with the cameras still facing the same direction?

That study in itself was “bunk.” The second trial prompted the students (not experts btw) to rate the wines using descriptors typical for red to the red and white to the white. Definitely not unbiased. Hell the manuscript wasn’t even totally published, that should tell you something right there. And his sample size was extremely small and only covered a narrow group of people. He had no controls... in short, that study was a mess. Cool to talk about though I guess.

Well if you're not a wine snob, it's a nice idea... As long as you're not expecting the same thing from your canned wine and your bottled wine. There will be no aging, you would ideally put young wine in there and avoid anything you might want to decant to get them to reveal themselves and so on. In other words, it's a fine idea for approximately the same usages you may have for canned sodas : having a refreshing nice drink almost anywhere anytime. If you want to drink an interesting and complex wine that you choose to get a good marriage with your dishes, steer away from the canned wine !! Another advantage/disadvantage is that this is a one person portion, might not even be enough to accompany a big dish, you lose the sharing of the bottle aspect but you can consume your wine alone if your friends prefer another beverage.
@cadys2875 жыл бұрын
