I love this guitar as I am a sucker for the Wine Red with gold hardware. I replaced the neck pickup with a SD '59 and the bridge with a SD JB. Oh and the JJ stand for Jerry Cantrell Jr which is interesting that they didn't use JJ Jr like they did on his Friedman signature amps.

Great video but that’s not a ProBucker in the neck. It’s an Alnico Classic Pro, same pickup that comes in the base model Epiphone Studios. Notice the sticker on bottom side letters said ACP. Not PB2.

Both the epiphone pro buckers and Alnico classic pro humbuckers are highly acclaimed pickups..and made the same exact same way as the Gibson burst buckers and 57 pickups..

I have one. I think it is the best Les Paul for the price. I have put Gibson pickups on it to make it more the real thing, but honestly the stock pickups were very good too. The neck profile is great but the frets needed some polish.

There is a common misconception that you stated that I also hear a lot of people make a mistake on. The regular base model Les Paul custom, ALSO have an Ebony board! Every time I hear a gear review channel talk about the signature models, one of the things they always say is that “one of the upgrades is a true Ebony fretboard” Just wanted to let you know that

Geez, I bought the alpine white Epi Les Paul Custom brand new off the Guitar Center wall, same headstock as that, I’m guessing same production year. When I took it apart to do a pickup upgrade the inside looked like a beaver was running loose in the cavities. Total hack job. Saw dust was spilling out the output jack, they painted over sawdust. Splinters hanging down like stalactites. I sent the pictures to Gibson/Eliphone and they said that was normal in overseas guitars. 😂 I have a Japanese IBZ RG570 original, a UV777, ESP/LTD H207 those are clean all the way through. 🤷‍♂️

This guitar is indeed a value proposition but case aside I think it is low bar considering what most signature models have included pickup wise. The extra money for the Cantrell Prophecy, Adam Jones 1979 or Hammett Greeny. All give you better USA pickups, the last two giving you the true "open book" headstocks. I don't like where these recent Epiphone offerings are going price wise and think anyone looking for these should seek them in the local 2nd hand sellers' market because it is rare to see an Epiphone retain value. The final thought around this guitar is it is a great option for those seeking value on a Les Paul Custom but do not buy this because you are a fan of Jerry Cantrell. I just saw him about 2 weeks ago and the number of times he played a Les Paul? Zero. All night it was G&L Rampage variations, not surprising but if you want to see Jerry play a Les Paul it will be likely in a video plugging these guitars bearing his name or 90s music videos 🤣

I love Les Paul customs. But it's hard to justify one when you play mostly metal. I have tried a couple Epi LPs that just couldn't stick with me because they didn't feel right. It was either the weight or the overall sound. For me, typically I prefer higher gain and higher output pickups so may the LP custom isn't the right guitar for me. But I just can't ignore the fact that they are great guitars. Now Jerry Cantrells Epiphone has been one of the best I've ever had a chance to play and I've been inches away from buying one. Not sure itd be the right fit but for the price and feel,they're there for sure. Still can't decide if I should or shouldn't because another guitar I'm considering is an LTD that is very similar but costs over $500 more. Time will tell I guess.

I’m surprised you couldn’t get along with the Les Paul for metal. I play metal and prefer the Les Paul. 🤷‍♂️. I too have been eyeing an LTD. The vintage gold satin EC-1000 to be exact. Keep jamming! 🤘🏻

@popskustom7382 I've had a Matt Heafy sig in 2019 I let go because of the weight. Otherwise I loved the guitar. Definitely regret getting rid of it. I've also tried own an Epiphone Les Paul Standard but after I took it home,I git buyers remorse the next day lol. I've had plenty of LTD singlecuts that feel and play amazing but I haven't found the one. I'm looking at getting an EC-1000T CTM in either silver sunburst satin,which I know is worth the hunt, or in the vintage cherry color. Sometimes I feel like I can be too picky lol

It's for Jerry and his dad, so Senior and Junior. Years ago they built a ranch in Oklahoma that Jerry's dad lives on, they call it the Double J ranch. Jerry's double J also appears on his Friedman amps.

I found a gearpage thread that said, "He owns a ranch with his dad called the 'double J', since both him and his dad are named Jerry." In his Wikipedia entry it does mention a ranch, but not the name, but if you google, you'll get results like an MTV Cribs episode where he was showing them around the "double J ranch" over 20 years ago.

I have three 2021 Epiphone high end guitars all with Ebony fretboards all with premium electronics hardware and build and the Quingdao epiphone facility is completely American owned and operated by Gibson Epiphone USA with American and Asian luthiers so the Chinese thing is old and very tiresome..

Indeed I first bought a used Muse- and realized Wow! So jumped in to a Modern Figured - loved the feel but it wasn’t until I replaced the neck pu with the same as the Muse -Epi Alnico Classic Pro- just amazing

I love the 70s vibe. But I can’t get past the headstock. My ocd won’t let me. I know it’s silly. There is only a few headstocks I like. Gibson 3x3, Fly V, firebird and explorer. Fender/Charvel small strat headstock. Jackson/Charvel pointy. And rock n roll relics. It almost the most important part of the guitar. Any changes to the classic designs really makes my decisions. Even a slight change in electronics placement is a turn off.
