Look at how delighted Chris is at 36:40 - for a moment he thought they'd figured it out but no! What a great mystery it turned out to be!

Binwin is a level six fighter/ level two barbarian. He has two attacks from attack action. When he decides to use two weapon fighting, he can make an off hand attack as a bonus action once per turn after his attack action. He if decides to use his Fighter ability called "Action Surge" he can use the attack action again, and swing twice. But can't use a bonus action cause he had already used one this turn. Since Binwin has the Fighter feature " Two Weapon fighting style" he gets to add his strength to all off hand attacks. Where he normally he would only add just a dice roll. And because he has the Dual wielder feat he can use ANY one handed weapon to use with Two Weapon Fighting. He regains Action Surge when he takes a short rest. Hope that clears up any confusion or if anyone wanted to know.

He should only be getting four attacks with an Action Surge, and three attacks without. Two-weapon fighting requires the use of a bonus attack to make the off-hand attack and a player only gets one of those per round. Action surge does NOT give an additional bonus action. So that is 1 attack, 1 Extra Attack, 1 bonus action attack (off-hand), and 1 Action Surge attack.

Perkins has reiterated several times (usually in the live games) that they "kind of just make stuff up as they go along" and only use the RAW as a guideline. The original Acquisitions Inc. podcast was done right after 4E came out as more of an exposition of the system than an actual game, and it's always been a comedy-driven series above all else.

If he got all three then he would be significantly better then Jim and that isn't the case. I just think he would have to have been pretty bad for a single book to make him slightly better. Comparing the original fight and how powerful the books were said to be really doesn't work out based on what I've seen.

Just FYI, You get 2 attacks with your attack action, then 1 attack with your bonus action. If you Action Surge you get another attack action - so 2 more attacks.

I feel like how Kurtz's attacks works changes every time he plays. I can recall an update by Mearls regarding this "attacks per round" thing. Back in Pax 2014, he had this sorted...but it's not anymore. level 1-4: 1 attack/round. Level 5-10: 2 attacks/round. Action Surge means you get another Action. So if you use the Attack action you can another number attacks as if you were using a new round. You only ever get one Bonus action/turn, regardless. From "Sage Advice" regarding Action Surge: "No it doesn't give you another bonus action. The optional part is that if you haven't used your bonus action that turn you can still use it after the action surge". Not sure if he has the Dual Weilder Feat to use a Battle Axe in one hand and a Hand Axe in the other, or if he has the Two-Handed fighting style, or if House Rules are in play. So his actual attack bonus and damage bonus per round is a complete mystery. I think Chris is just letting him wing it just to keep things moving. So as I read it, he *should* get 5 attacks/round IF he uses Action Surge. Four with the main hand and One with the off-hand, like Feylauer (sp?) said.

And on that note, I think he forgot to add his rage damage to his hits. Assuming he's got a 5 str mod, he'd have to roll a 1 to only deal 8 damage, unless that was his offhand and he didn't take the Two-Weapon Fighting ability from fighter. I'm pretty sure he's not a full barbarian.

Think they got Binwin's attacks wrong. A lvl 5 Barbarian, lvl 3 fighter would have - Attack action --> multi-attack = 2 attacks - Bonus action --> off hand swing = 1 attack (potential Action Surge to get one standard action once per short rest) The multi-attack only works with attacks made using the Attack action, not the attacks granted by dual wielding feat using the bonus action.

Chris just made a huge ruling on an ongoing debate about how dual weapons work with multi-attack. It seems you get 2 attacks PER attack action, meaning that you dual wield on each attack action. That's insanely good.

No, if you have a weapon in your off hand, you can use a bonus action to attack with it, it even says that in the PHB.

Not what I'm saying. There's significant disagreement on whether a Dual wielding character gets 3 attacks (2 main hand, one off hand) or 4 attacks (2 main hand, two ff hand) with the Extra Attack ability (at lvl 5 for a lot of classes). The reason is because it requires a bonus action to attack with the off hand weapon, which might mean you only attack ONCE with it, because you can only use a bonus action once. Chris' ruling is that you use the off hand weapon twice as well, which is insanely good.

As much as I love this series, it seems more fun when they do it at PAX. The audience adds something more to the experience. On an nerdy note, a portcullis comes from the french porte coleice which translates directly as "sliding door".

I love the idea of letting your players roll their loot when they find it. Of course, I wouldn't do that all of the time, because it really breaks that 4th wall and makes it hard to as a DM plant an item as a plot-hook. It's still a cool option though if your players are into it!

According to PHB pg 114, it should take 14 hours (and cost 350 gp) to copy a 7th-level spell to your spellbook. Half that if the spell's school matches your Arcane Tradition. So to copy those scrolls should take Jim 24 hours and cost him 600 gp.

I immediately thought of this while watching the episode. Percival definitely could not see Aeofel during the Last Will and Testament of James Darkmagic I. However, Percival was able to see Omin. So, unless the rules have changed, I'd suspect that the masked guy can't be Aeofel, and is rather most likely Auspicia. Within the rules, the only way I could see Percival seeing Aeofel is if the curse from the Wortstaff family was removed since last we saw Percival. I don't recall if Percival had any interactions or indicated that he could see the masked guy, though. Yet, I think that the idea that Percival is oblivious to the masked guy, is highly unlikely, as they have been traveling together. It will be interesting to see how this plays out.

It makes me feel relieved that even Chris Perkins himself can screw up the rules so often. Binwin you only get to make an offhand attack as a bonus action when you dual wield, according to RAW. Which makes dual wielding rather underpowered once you start getting other options for your bonus action.

it still could be, they just assumed it was Omin's sister . . . but the details are very vague . . . too vague to say either way, all we know is that it is an Elf of some kind, Omin and Auspicia are Half-Elves and Aeofel is an Eladrin (both a kind of Elf) and Auspicia and Aeofel are both healers and whoever it is worships Melora which is a deity from where both Auspicia and Aeofel are from and could easily be worshiped by either of them (well Aeofel does but so could Auspicia) maybe Will and Scott finally settled whatever happened between them, who knows

Theory. It cannot be Aeofel, as Wil and Scott had a falling out a number of years ago, seeing as Chris does not seem like the type of DM to use another person's character without permission. More likely; Auspicia. While evidence would point in that direction, there's a couple hiccups here, too. The masked character is presumed male and elvish by a rather high roll that would allude to both being true. However, Auspicia is rather masculine in the description of her. She would also be, if assumed whole blood brother to Omin, half elf, and not full elf. If I had to guess, I'd like to believe it Auspicia. Hate that Chris is such a great story teller that the line he's laid is only slowly coming undone by some good moves by the players. Thoughts?
