Penelope's Chinwag

Күн бұрын

Hello, my name is Pene, short for Penelope. I live in the South East corner of England, by the English Channel, one of the busiest shipping lanes in the world. I am retired now but was a counsellor for the NHS for about twenty years and loved my job. This week's Chinwag is about my crafting, my walks, and a chat about the Negative and Positive Parent Ego-States which can help us make decisions that are best for us. I also read you "My Story". Thanks for joining me and I hope you enjoy this episode.

A much needed visit, thank you. Your walks, stories and supportive advice were very timely here as we've had a distressing week. Had to have a vet out to put our very elderly dog put to sleep and we miss her very much. She was a rescue who had been badly treated, but became a wonderful character and companion. Loved your jumper and crafts. Thank you for sharing x

Good to see you again Pene. I was expecting to have to wait 2 weeks, but here you are, such a lovely surprise. Just like a friend popping by. Everything on your crafting table is so lovely, you are very talented. I love hearing your story and seeing your walks, such a pleasant place to live. My Tilley has her cardigan, and I'm sure I heard her say it was about time. She looks great. Best wishes to you both, see you next time. Happy crafting

I really enjoy the story. It tells a kind of history you don't learn in school but it is so much more meaningful. I love the picot edge on your jumper. It is so pretty. The hanging embroidered squares look perfect on that hook behind you. That was really a good idea to put them on a ribbon. Your walks look like so much fun: sheep, donkeys, wild surf and cute beach huts. We've had some crazy wind, too. Things are just starting to green up. And we bought some baby chicks, so it just be spring.🐤 Thanks for sharing. Don't let the two girls keep you up, giggling all night😉 Maisie probably feels so much better she can go all night. Take care.

Hi Karen, I love the picot edge on the jumper, it's so easy to wear. I'm definitely going to knit another. Baby chicks again, how quickly the time has come around. I so miss my chickens but at the moment with Pete to look after it wouldn't be sensible to buy some more. Spring is so late, we are wishing for a warm day without chilly wind and rain. You're right, I've had to look away from the girls, they are having such fun together, a stitch in time eh, makes all the difference. Thanks for your continued support. xx

Such a lovely varied episode as always, Pene. Your methodical approach to your crafting checklist is admirable, and obviously effective. I was interested in your analysis of top down jumper construction as I am new to it too. Your jersey is gorgeous. Please continue the story telling. It was wonderful that you could share these memories with your darling Mum, and record them. I so wish I had had a similar opportunity with my mother. Great to see Pete leading the way on your walks, and then rattling those pots and pans back in the kitchen.

Thanks Julie, Pete is getting stronger thank goodness. He relaxes in the kitchen which is such a blessing for me. When he came home from hospital he pushed his walker into the kitchen sat on a chair and chopped a carrot - like our knitting I suppose. I do like the jumper and it is very comfortable. I think top down if you have a yoke pattern works really well. See you next time. xx

Hello Pene, I only discovered your fabulous KZbin account a few weeks ago, what a joy. I have now watched every single video and feel I know you and your family well. So sorry to hear about Pete being unwell but hope he is continuing to do well. I cannot believe how much I have learnt from you about nature and I am so glad to say you have reignited my interest in knitting. There are so many similarities between you and Pete and my husband and myself, only a couple of years different in ages, the Isle of Wight played a huge part in my husbands younger days along with his friends (wow, the tales I could tell but better not😂)you being a “mod”, me too, oh how I loved those days. I am so in love with your garden, we only have a tiny one but who knows, one day we might move even though we are now in our seventies. Thank you for sharing all of your interests and family x

The garden has become a bit of a worry at the moment as we are not able to look after it and now the chickens have gone the end is growing so quickly. However, we are keeping calm and trying to find some help so enjoy your small garden!

I watched Ep. 105 but did not get to writing a comment...and I felt pretty bad about that. Your vlogs are just wonderful. I'm sure I repeat this like a broken record. This episode was another lovely time. I hope you know how very much your subbies value you. Watching how you get all your little projects finished does make me think I need to find some gumption to get to all of mine. Your new jumper is just perfect and I can imagine it is a joy to wear it. The label on the finished quilt was just the sweetest. I love that you did the little collage with the pieces of your gown and your mom's nightie to go with the label you made of the much-loved book. You really do have the best ideas. Seeing your town just makes me long to see Great Britain. I especially enjoyed seeing the children riding their horses on the beach. And the donkeys are so sweet - if stubborn. And Pete looked so like a little boy in his warm cap. I'll look forward to your next episode. Maybe I will even find some time to watch some of the earlier ones. Thank you so very much for taking the time to talk with us and share your life. All the best!

Thanks for the broken record, it keeps me going! I'm finding getting my projects out on the table helps me to do them and showing you definitely helps! I love your jumper, it looks so nice on you. I purchased some Spincycle yarn on holiday last summer, and came across this pattern a while ago when I was trying to decide what to make with it. I haven’t really knit any top down jumpers, so have been quite nervous to make a start. I have the same fear of there not being enough structure in the garment without seams. Your jumper has turned out so well that I might just have to try it. Please carry on with your story, I used to love listening to your mum and was always amazed at the details she could remember. x

Lovely welcome surprise to wake up to a new episode of Chinwag. So timely to listen to and think about the different parenting messages in my head. I think you may just have saved or at least improved my weekend! I’d missed seeing Maisey and the gang> I expect the sloth is hanging somewhere taking a snooze and didnt make it upstairs in time😂 Lovely to see Pete in the garden and knowing he got behind the camera and walking about looking everywhere as usual. The variety of crafts you introduce is amazing however I love that you don’t settle if it’s not quite right! Makes me giggle. So lovely to catch up with you again Penelope. Your jumper looks so lovely on you and I love the little picot edges. I am not much of a knitter so really admire your abilities. Thank you again for your words of wisdom and reading us a little more of your story. It is something I must get onto doing. I did begin a little while ago and then let it lapse. Where does all the time go? Take care xx

Thanks so much Jacqueline, If you can do the basics of knitting then I'm sure the jumper is achievable. The end result looks good I think and looks much harder than it really is. I found when the sap rose I just had to 'get down' a bit of my story. Then there would be a lull. Encouragement is needed and perhaps mine will encourage you. I do hope so. Also just bash it out. Then go back and change and alter. That way it doesn't have to be 'right', it can be polished as it were. Maybe that will help. xx

Morning, it is so satisfying when a project is finished, although a lot of mine are ones that can be added to. Pete back in the kitchen is fab. Good for him and me! He's pottering round the garden now but comes in saying 'that hasn't made much difference'. Always plenty to do out there. xx

Pene your jumper is gorgeous. I love how the Spincycle wool changes colour. I resonate with what you say about the emotional purse. I have a physical purse too that is rapidly becoming a large shopping bag but it's there to be tackled rather than shoved in a cupboard I meant to ask you about the small brown birds in your previous episode. Are they Turnstones? I'd not heard of them until a year or two ago and I've been looking for a decent print of them. I love birds generally but these are great to watch as they scurry along xx

Hi Anne, the Spincycle wool is expensive but it gives a finish like no other really I think. I'm battling with myself about buying some more and knitting it all again. When you like something I think if it's in another colour it will look so different. Yes shoving things in a cupboard never helps does it. We had a lovely walk this morning in the warm sunshine, but it's raining again here now and that could be shoved in a cupboard! The turnstones were there again and I thought I can't film those again - but I did! So you might see them next time. They are fab and their wings are quite large. Enjoy tomorrow. xx

Thanks so much for those encouraging words Cheryl. I did say a few episodes back I wasn't going to do any more quilting but that is ridiculous. You just can't stop can you! I'm thinking of a wedding ring quilt next - maybe. xx

Your visits always fly by too quickly. Now I can try to identify where the voices in my head are coming from and who I should listen to. I’m now aware of my emotional purse and will try to not feel guilty if or rather when I say sorry but I really can’t help at the moment. I’ve been practicing asking myself how do I feel, what do I want and what do I need. This has been so very helpful to me, thank you. Your sweater looks so pretty and comfortable on you. I appreciated hearing what pleased you and what didn’t with the construction. The picot edging finished it perfectly. Every aspect of your visit was delightful, I do enjoy hearing how you grew up. So different from my experience. Thank you!
