“esCAPE” Not Quite Enough Yarn, June 2024
Welcome to the June 2024 episode of the “Not Quite Enough Yarn” Podcast.
My name is Lesley. This is the story of my attempt at working my way through the stash, but without enough of each single colour to make a sweater.
Thanks so much for watching. Please feel free to add any thoughts, queries or questions to the comments box below.
Ravelry.com and Instagram usernames: knittingordeath
Email: notquiteenoughyarn@gmail.com
My Tech Editing Services are available: evenbetterpatterns.com/ or email evenbetterpatterns@gmail.com
The “Modification MAL” will run until Sept 2024
Works in progress allowed if started no earlier than Christmas Eve (24th December) 2023.
Prizes will be drawn quarterly from posts on this thread. Each quarter there will be a physical prize (probably yarn), from a post with a picture, and a pattern prize (up to US$15) for a post without a picture.
At the beginning of October a grand prize will be drawn - the winning entry must be a picture of a Finished Object.
Please be a subscriber to the Podcast: / @notquiteenoughyarn
To be eligible to win a prize.
Prizes will be announced on the podcast and must be claimed by the 25th of the following month.
What crafts are involved?
All types of knitting or crochet.
All project types are eligible.
What counts as modification?
• Pattern creation - if you design your own patterns, please feel free to include them here.
• Change of structure/dimensions - eg, making something shorter, longer, wider etc.
• Change in construction - eg adding a different heel type, working a pattern in the round when it was written for flat, changing the neckline, making a sweater into a cardigan, adding shaping or darts, etc.
• Including patterns which change gauge - eg cables or colourwork, where modifications are needed to keep the garment size the same.
Good luck and please get in contact if there are any queries.

Hi Annie - thanks so much for your comment. My sister also has RA, so I have a little understanding of how it can be - I take my hat off to you for keeping knitting and hope you are enjoying the project - it's not a race and the blanket will be so loved for all your effort and time. Thank you for being here and take good care xx

I’m so pleased you explained your poncho/cape as it now makes perfect sense! It is going to be so cosy for you and Heidi to snuggle in! Obviously not while her Daddy is home though! You showed some lovely yarns and I particularly love the aqua and rust colourway! Lovely podcast today Lesley so thank you very much. Take care and enjoy the summer which I think they said might be on Wednesday 🤣

Thanks for another crafty episode, as always!! I like your new spin in the “sea Glass”. And that yarn Himself got you with the wonderful softness should surely become a cowl! Beautiful makes, I like how the poncho turned out and so clever of you to use the cable cross areas for your button holes. That’s a tip to remember! My daughter and I are attempting a crochet jacket, actually, she is crocheting, I am advising….. (oh, Mom!).. great to see you, and will catch you next time.

Forgot to say - it wasn't the cable crosses that became the button holes - it's just the gaps between the long stitches - very useful in crochet xx

Thanks for the shout out Lesley. The poncho almost qualifies for 2 entries but what a brilliant way to use up all that yarn. I made a shorter poncho last winter and wore it so much I definitely need to make another one, maybe even crochet one 🤔 I have some Forest Aran too and a couple of viewers suggested that knitted on a traditional aran it grew a lot and they had treated it more like a DK and it behaved better and didn't stretch as much. Take care xx

Decided to do a scrappy,striped,seed stitch cowl neck sweater from a pattern I love in 70s. Went looking for all the yarn, found 2 unfinished sweaters,one don't need the pattern as in home stretch of last sleeve but none of the 5greens match it. The other is alpaca knit as solid as pea coat and needle is pulled out,was only to arm holes. I searching found the sharpening stone with yarn, jeans of all sizes from last 15 years,3 hooded sweatshirt,2have never seen before,piles of fabric and the summer blankets wanted 4yrs ago. Have decided need only underwear the rest of my life. Is down to 85 at 1930 here and now must clear discoveries from the bed before collapse. The adventures of craft hoard!!

Hi Cheryl. Oh, the joy of re-discovery, and thinking of new uses for previously allocated yarn. That sounds like a good day's "pottering". Ooh, that's warm - hope you are able to stay comfortable as you sort thought your stuff. What a lovely mixture of things you found - it must have felt like a treasure hunt! I love all your makes, you make me want to try new patterns. I’m still nervous to try different knitting stitches, but when I see the things you make I want to try the harder patterns. I really want to make a cardigan for myself. I think I’ll look into the pattern you shared. Have a great week.

Hi Anna. I have thought about a bed cape/poncho, but I rarely knit in bed. I wish I could say that I never sleep in my armchair, too, but we know that's a lie! I will pass your suggestion to Himself, but don't be surprised if he doesn't go for it! Thanks and take care xx

@@NotQuiteEnoughYarn Hello Lesley, Not sleeping a lot, in bed 11 pm with my doggy Jackson. He has not been very unwell of late, after his second visited in 8 days, to his lovely vet; Anna this is a hard conversation, oh dear. Jackson is nearly 17 years, his kidneys are failing, he has a heart murmur all meds are going straight through him. He is not eating let him go in peace, brought Jackson home so we all can say goodbye,. Trying to knit, I think I will sit n cry. 😢

Thank you for another great podcast! I love the poncho/cape. It looks fantastic on you. I especially like how the varigated color at the bottom kind of looks like a lace border from a distance. I live in a part of the world that also has a "North Berwick," but we pronounce it burr-wick. I'm hoping to visit your part of the world someday and will have to rember it's different there so I don't make a fool of myself. (We're heathens. We also have a "Calais" that is pronounced cal-ess. 😂)
@NotQuiteEnoughYarn
@NotQuiteEnoughYarn 3 күн бұрын
Hi. Don't worry - most British people can't do all of the pronunciations - eg Belvoir in Derbyshire should be said as "Beaver in Darbysheer". We haven't got a chance - too many regional variations. Thanks so much and take good care xx
