I don't understand why everyone wants to be helpful by saying "people would pay you for that," as if something has no value unless it can be monetized. I always say, "People could not pay me enough for the hours it takes to hand-knit something. That is why Aran sweaters ordered from Ireland are now hundreds of dollars and are machine made." I used to get the same advice about my sewing, and even did alterations and custom clothing while I was working on my master's degree. It would have been better financially to have worked a retail job. As much as people believe you should turn your hobby into a job, it ruins the hobby as a source of enjoyment.

Totally agree with you. People are telling me all the time to sell my makes ( knitting, cooking, baking ect..) but… I think it will take the joy out of it. So I’m keeping on gifting my makes 😊. If it’s really lemon sirop for lemonade or pineut clusters, I like to gift them.

I ❤ your food for thought. My very favorite item to wear is an over size linen shirt. I am retired and many days I am at home with just the rescue dogs BUT I always iron my shirt with as much detail as I did for a day at school. The other day after getting dressed I looked in the mirror and thought , “ Why do I have to always press those shirts?” Straightening the color I reflected on the fact that I am still the same person in public or private

Eunice's reaction-comment to this week's episode: - omgosh that ghost cozy is SO CUTE!! - socks are the beessstttt 😱💕 - oooohhh i love the way you indicate what needle size you used for your swatches! also, someone at the purlsoho marketing department made an excellent choice to have you sample their upcoming products. 👏👏👏 - lol i love these jazzy interludes throughout the video. i don't know why but they make me giggle and i feel randomly sophisticated. 😁 - i so appreciate that you show what yarns look like as a hank as well as how it looks like in a ball alongside showcasing how your socks knit up. SO INFORMATIVE!! we don't deserve you. - aww the food for thought is such a good one. my takeaway from what you shared is: my opinion - even if it's the only one - is enough to justify me wearing what i want! i can be my own audience to what i wear on any particular day; it is enough that i want to wear it. 💛 thank you for sharing your makes and thoughts with us, stephanie!

I was surprised to discover that I too don’t always have interest in a conversation about a knitted item I might be wearing….unless I discover the other person is also a knitter; then the chat stays easy. Nice episode thanks.

I really resonated with today's food for thought! I have a tendency to be too precious with items, not just clothes. When I first started knitting socks, I made a rule for myself that I have to wear my new socks within a couple days of finishing them, and getting that first wear out of the way helps me so much. I also feel the same about Halloween and scary stuff, but I'm loving all the fall colors!!

Thank you for reminding me about 9” circulars for knitting socks. I'm in the process of knitting Zanete’s Rhubard and Custard socks. I knit the first sock with DPNs and after I watched this vlog I went to my 9” circs and OMG! So much easier but I seem to be knitting a looser gauge 😮 I’m enjoying this so much I’m going to carry on and get smaller size needles for the next pair. You’re such a fountain of information and positive energy. I love the way you explain the process of your knitting from explaining the number of grams of yarn you use to the info about the yarn and any deviations from the pattern you chose. You’re such a treasure for all of us. Thank you 😊
@EdibleThoughtsMakes2 ай бұрын
You're very welcome! Yes, some people do knit looser on 9" circulars. I notice that I knit tighter on magic loop but I don't knit socks on magic loop anymore - when I did, I noticed those socks from years past came out with a denser fabric and the fit was more snug and eventually those socks all ended up in my daughter's drawer and she LOVES them.❤️❤️❤️Thank you so much for your kind words, they lift me up!

SO EXCITED FOR YOU!!! I was thinking the yarn would be a great candidate for cables given its round nature but not being a cable-knitter myself (LOVE the look, don't love the process so therefore I don't usually knit cables lol), I didn't know for sure. Glad to hear you're enjoying it so far!

I LOVE your color sense so much, Stephanie. Your projects are always so inspiring. I’ve probably said that before, but I just felt that I needed to say it again. 😊 My kids will sometimes say that they’ve done their chores “for me”, and I try to remind them that that is actually for their benefit since we can learn so much through the discipline of doing things we don’t necessarily love. (They usually roll their eyes when I say this, but we’re all a work in progress.) 💓 Thanks so much for another wonderful episode. Have a nice weekend! ~Amy

Delightful episode! All my favorite things & colors, too! Appreciate the before/after skein showcasing the stripey/pooling thing with the socks, and I LOVE grey + pink! The hotter pink the better, right?! Isn’t it FUN to see what you get when you double yarns? Made a pair of socks using 10g minis, double strand, speckled…soooo pretty & unique, Monet painting! (Or Manet??) I know those conversations: sell the thing, or … I let some folks know how many hours = pair of socks, or shawl (or hat, mitts) and then I ask them to do the math: xxx hours times minimum wage (which varies everywhere, but for my purposes, this gets my point across). They nod their heads in agreement, but no one will actually PAY that amount for said item. I do however, offer to TEACH them how to knit or crochet, which also flops. I have a small knit-worthy group of friends, and I love making hats, mitts, cowls etc for them. Especially during my current un-stash (a bigger to-do than “de-stash”) and purge mode of late. Very glad to donate so others can enjoy what’s been binned up for years! Thank you for a fun time! Ready for more socks (probably no colorwork tho), but how cute is the mug mitt???

A teeny suggestion for the ghosts; you could do the eyes and mouth just as duplicate stitches to avoid the 3 colour at a time issue, you may enjoy it more that way.

Love your podcast. the sweater and colors u chose in the sweater you wore in this podcast. Looks lovely on you! I also appreciate that even thought your hair isn’t particularly long you Put it up; One of my pet peeves with knitting podcasters with lovely long hair. It is always in the way and they can’t seem to keep fiddling with it. Sorry for venting, I feel like a grouchy short haired complainer🤦🏻♀️. 😂😂
@EdibleThoughtsMakes2 ай бұрын
Thank you so much! I would be personally annoying myself if I were messing with my hair the whole time and then having to watch the play back of me messing with my hair so to not annoy myself, I put it up or pin it back lol. Other podcasters with whatever length hair can do whatever works for them (in my opinion!).
@butterflysoar1Ай бұрын
I love the sweater you are making for your daughter but why do you have to wait for the shorties needle to use? Won’t magic loop or a 9 inch circular needle work on a sleeve?
@EdibleThoughtsMakesАй бұрын
Thanks! Yes, if you like those methods and have those available, they're perfectly okay options! I don't have 9 inches fixed needles in the size needed and I don't prefer knitting sleeves in magic loop (I always knit tighter in magic loop too so I would need to go up a needle size and hope it works out). Turns out I misremembered in the video and both sweaters used US6 on the sleeves (versus one on US6 and one on US7 I think I said in the video). Just waiting to knit them when the needles I prefer are available works for me!
