That's great news Stef. Really pleased you got yours working. I can feed back to you that ours is still firing up more than 2 years later, so it's starter motor is still holding up for now! 👍 Thank you for your kind words. Glad you enjoyed it. Cheers.

I used the hammer and extension trick on my starter which was overrunning after starting (starter solenoid issue). Seems the carbon build up causes the problem and is dislodged with a few taps. I have a good spare starter, but from what I see in the forums it's a bit of a job to replace, so I'm holding off until absolutely necessary

Hi Nobeel. Glad you got yours working using this method. I'm gonna apply the same thinking as yourself for now. At the moment she's behaving! HaHa!

Good video, tried it but didn't work for me. I guess it's a long shot rather than a "fix". Mine won't crank now. Previously it would crank after a slight delay, then a longer delay with a slight starter motor type murmur immediately before cranking.P is illuminated on gear selector. I'm assuming it's starter or starter solenoid related.

That's a fair comment. Definitely a temporary measure rather than a fix. When you're having to do these things, they'll fail eventually in time. Saying that, mine is still holding up more than 2 years later! Lol! Hope you can get yours fixed pal. With mine being a 5-speed Manual rather than Automatic, I don't have the illuminated "P". Hopefully it is just the starter and nothing linked to your Auto box. Definitely work asking the question on the Jaguar forums. They are generally very helpful with tips and advice. Keep me posted pal. Cheers. 👍

Great tip, nice video, need to fix my X300 starter but need to remove mine as working but noisy, as you say disconnect the Battery but I would suggest if you touch the spanner on the body of the vehicle when undoing or doing up the terminal your going to melt the spanner, I always remove the Negative terminal to prevent this possibility
@jimmykneesall2 жыл бұрын
Cheers Gary. Thanks for your comments. Hope you can get things sorted on yours. Mine's still working. For now! HaHa! So, when cutting the power, are you saying that the removal of the negative terminal is better than removing the positive terminal in that instance?
@garychapman74952 жыл бұрын
@@jimmykneesall when ever you connect a Battery, Positive first, then if the spanner touches the bodywork no sparks so it's not a problem, then you connect the Negative, and if the spanner touches the bodywork still no problem, when Disconnecting, Negative first then positive for the same reason, if your leaving the battery in the car just disconnect the Negative, A Car battery only 12 volts so no chance of electric shock but like an arc welder the amps can melt steel.

HMMM- I have the same problem with my 97 XJR. Will give this a try tomorrow and see if it starts.

Good luck with it Mark. Fingers crossed for you. You shouldn't need to hit it too hard. Currently, mine is still starting perfectly after over a month since doing it.
