Just watched this one, and I agree that especially coming off of The Lodger, this one loses that obvious Hitchcock feel. Although, some of the shots of Roddy going down were incredible in terms of storytelling. Starting with the escalator, and then (my favorite) the elevator, and then being taken into the ship. The moment Roddy sinks to the depths of his downfall in the elevator the movie all of a sudden feels like a Hitchcock product and it hits on all cylinders. Overall I was impressed by the film even if it did start slow. After watching The Lodger and this Ivor Novello has won me over with his incredible performances, I personally think he's what makes Downfall a worth while watch all the way through.

The idea of actors from the movie appearing onstage to act out a scene during the premiere is awesome. That should happen more! I saw Beauty and the Beast at the Hollywood Bowl once and this kind of happened. They played the animated movie and then for all the songs, the movie would fade out and Zooey Deschanel or Kelsey Grammar would come out and sing. But to have it happen with a drama would be great. Definitely would've made my experience of The Northman better.

OMG- I need to see that version of The Northman right now! Totally agree with you that it should be done more often... Wes Anderson would be ideally suited to writing and directing a film/stage hybrid. I'd line up for it!
