Bestie lol I got a new job on the new year and if you follow me on IG you'll know how I got the job! So basically the surgeon I've worked for many years was the chief of staff at this OR and he wanted me to come and work at this other hospital. I told him I don't have privileges at that hospital so he told me he will help me get there. Voila, I'm here! lol didn't even do an interview. Blessed AF!
This is my first day and I will make a video every week of my experience. Follow along as I navigate through the ups and downs of working in the operating room!

I did my first closed reduction this week too! 😂😂 I was asking the tech so many questions before the doctor came in, buuuut she did tell me, they usually do general anesthesia when they can’t get the patients muscles to relax enough to get the bone back into place!

I just became a surgical tech! I start January 30th. I'm super nervous 😓 I just purchased your surgical guide pocket booklet! I need to brush up on my instruments before my first day. Love ❤ your videos!!!

Ahhh congratulations!!!! Yep I definitely would recommend brushing up on your instruments. I forgot to mention on this video that during my BVT case surgeon was asking for a vein retractor. I knew all the instruments in that vascular tray and I don't see anything! It turns out that my tray was messed up, it was missing that specific retractor lol. Here I am looking for something that wasnt there.

I feel the struggle about getting a break! I have to eat breakfast at home before work. You never know when are you going to be able to get a break! Protein shakes and bars are such a lifesavers!

It's so badddd though. I don't think 30 min is enough to eat and digest. I get a lot of stomachache. Probably not good Long term. What do u eat before work? It's so early.

@@SURGICALTECHGEEKwell... Mostly is a sandwich, or a toast with jelly, or yogurt with chia and a fruit... It depends how hungry I am... I take time while they are turning over the room to go eat a snack to avoid starvation until I get lunch... 30 minutes are so short... I just eat because is a necessity. I don't enjoy it... 😒

Vascular cases scare me as a new tech…dealing wit them little prolene needles I’ve almost lost a couple handing back and fourth wit the DR on the drape.

Hahah so my case, I told the doctor DO NOT LOSE my needles cause he can be reckless. So he hands them to me very carefully. They were 6-0 bv! Very tiny.

Is it tough to go back to school with this career? I'm asking because I know that taking call is part of the job. I'm genuinely interested in both ST and cardiac sonography. I would love to eventually do both. I plan to do ST first, save up and then go back to school for the cardiac sonography.

What state do you work in ? I’m in Cali and our labor laws protect us from missing breaks. I charge the company extra for missed lunches and breaks

I got what I wanted and a little negotiations on other things. It helps when you already know the people that works there cause it's all word of mouth.

@@shayflo3678 the one i was looking for came with the pack I opened. I didn't know that their packs are custom made so everything was in there but then my u drape fell on the floor so I needed a sub. Couldn't find a paper U drape. It's shaped like a U so it can wrap around the arm. One is impervious plastic and the other is made of thick paper. Surgeon likes the paper but i told him I don't have it so we just used the plastic U and an extremity drape. Worked out just fine. Some surgeons are very specific with their drape system

I think liquid is faster absorption lol. I'd do granola bars, banana with peanut butter, yogurt with nuts.
