Tim Duncan deserves his own statue outside the AT&T center.

The Spurs don’t do statues. I kinda like that mentality. All of that being said I liked your comment and I would take photos in front of it just like those championship trophies .

@@thomasbikes Agree. On court success (and failures) don't define the Spurs, and do not take accolades into their heads. It is not about an individual, it is about the team and everybody's contributions in achieving a goal. Let Michael, Shaq, and DWade have their statues. TD is ok being the greatest Spur of all-time and that's it, life goes on. He's selfless and team-oriented.

I know this sounds weird because he’s probably one of the least traditionally “cool” superstars but growing up Tim Duncan made me feel cool to be from San Antonio. It gave me a weird sense of pride to know he was on our team. I always remember that feeling and I think he gave it to everyone in the city. Thanks Tim. You’re my hero 😭

Tim is cool as fuck. He's cooler than any other superstar because he doesn't even try to be cool. He's just himself.

As I watched this I was thankful that my family started watching the NBA at a time that Tim Duncan was playing for the Spurs. We never watched the NBA but wanted our kids to watch the pros to see how they moved the ball. The Spurs, and specifically Tim Duncan, became our family favorite. I love that you had that time in San Antonio!

I remember thinking how lucky we were to have David, but it seemed like the clock was running against us to get over that hump to a championship. When David went down that previous year, I thought man, another year we're gonna be out of the mix. But when that season proved more disastrous than I thought (21-61?), I thought our window was over. I kinda understood the draft process a little, I knew we were in line to get a top pick so that was cool. I was in Dallas visiting some family and we were all watching TV and someone switched it over to the draft lottery. I had heard over and over, Tim Duncan was the consensus #1 pick likely going to Boston who had the best odds. Spurs were almost a sure lock for a top 5 pick. And when they got to 4 and it went to Memphis, I got a chill. First time ever I felt this emotion over Basketball much less a draft. So, I was thinking there's us (The Spurs) and Boston with 3 cards left. Then 3 was revealed and it was Boston, it was the first time I almost jumped out of my seat. I didn't know as much then as now, but I knew Tim Duncan was wanted by everybody. I was a little pessimistic thinking there's no way San Antonio is getting #1 pick, even though we were on the cusp. We were fortunate to have David. Then the 2nd card was Philly and I lost my mind! Jumped up running around my relatives living room high fiving people. I'm not sure they understood what just happened. My brother-in-law did. He lived in Dallas but was from here and knew what was on the line. We hugged and high five because we knew San Antonio was now on the map, and great things could possibly be coming. Tim fit our city and team culture which Pop was still trying to strengthen. As the years passed, to have 2 #1 picks that were humble good people, sacrificed salaries if it meant getting better players, quiet leaders who led by example and allowed Pop to coach them was just amazing. Not taking away from all the great players we've had, who sacrificed in different ways, who paved the way. Manu, a starter on any other team, willing to come off the bench, Tony a French champion showing his maturity at 19 by getting dressed down by Pop on the sidelines with the crowd looking on. Avery, our vocal leader with an insane ability to get the team moving in the same direction. I was so thrilled to put it mildly when we got our 1st championship. We showed the world that good guys doing it right could finish on top. And the 7th largest city with little respect from others could put together a winning culture. We aren't just fair-weather fans, we love this team, and we were finally putting everyone on notice!

The Atlantic ranked TD number 9 as the all-time greatest, and the highest among PFs. No complaints. I think TD doesn't mind, if not he doesn't care. Another facet of TDs greatness is he let late picks Tony Parker, Manu Ginobili and "traitor" (mid-pick) emerge into All-Stars and he is genuinely supportive and happy for them.

I remember vividly Spurs winning draft lotto and being so excited as SF Bay Area Warriors fan only because I was a huge David Robinson's fan. When it comes to college hoops, I had/still have 0 interest but it just so happens that I saw Duncan played for Wake Forest one time on TV, and started watching him whenever I get a chance. Spurs were good then and David wasn't injured yet at the time. So, my half-pipe dream or wish was that Duncan would be drafted by Spurs and played along next to my idol, the Admiral. When Spurs won the draft lotto, boy o boy, I was happy as hell. First time I got to see Duncan played was I believe Halloween game against Timberwolves, Garnett. Robinson missed the last play but his put back was good last seconds and won the game. Duncan showed some emotions but that was about the most he would display all in his career.

Tim Duncan top 5 all time hands down. 5-1 in the finals and would have been 6-0 like MJ if Pop had him in the game when Ray hit the game tying 3 in game 6. TD snatches that rebound from Bosh easily.
