Thank you! I think when i made that video I would set up the glass then remove it then pour the resin then replace the glass. If you watch some of my more recent videos after I set up the glass I just go ahead and pour the resin, much easier. I am glad you enjoyed the video. I would love to see what you end up making if you would like to share it my email is under my about info.

Something to be aware of if you will hang outside, put resin on both sides of the glass. I did an old door with a glass window. Probably single pane as the door is vintage. Well we had a storm and a small rock hit the back side of the window in the corner and then it cracked from end to end. I think if the back side had resin over it it would have been protected. The good part is that the resin on the front held everything together.

Well for the most part I now put the glass down first, just because it's easier. I do think you use less resin puting the glass down last like i did in this video also then you dont get bubbles under your glass if you put the resin down first. So there are pros and cons to both.

Dang it, my husband gave away a tumbler that was his uncles after his uncle passed. I wish I seen this video prior. How do you collect and cut your solid colored glass? Your windows came out beautiful. We have a tree house the previous owners built. The windows are cut out with no windows in them same with the door, cut out but no door. The construction is solid and good. I think they just didn’t get to the finishing touches. From what I understand his job relocated him to another state. He left behind tons of building materials, everything from roofing materials, cherry wood panels, boxes of tiles, rebar, ect. We have used some of the materials and my husband built an extra shed and a greenhouse but we had to purchase the twin wall polycarbonate sheets…they were expensive.

@crazyglasslady
@crazyglasslady 2 жыл бұрын
I would not put resin in direct sunlight it will speed up the yellowing process. If you want to do that I would attach the pieces with liquid nails or silicone. I did a project as one of my first videos with 3 seahorses and I did one on glass with I think liquid nails. no resin and when hung on a wall it looks beautiful. kzbin.info/www/bejne/r3KUlHSVn5h5g7s. If you are going to hang it in a window you can see the glue behind it. I think I may do another project like that and spread the silicone more evenly and see if its less noticeable. I do not want to give you any false info I would hate for you to ruin your project All the ones i have indoors are beautiful.no yellowing one is 3 years old. One that I have had in direct sunlight is very yellow I did a video on it and 2 that I have out on my back porch ( Very hot here in south Florida) but not in direct sun have slight yellowing very slight. I hope that helps.

How much resin is used, just enough to places glass pieces in it? Does it cover over all the glass pieces, so they are completely covered with resin?
@crazyglasslady
@crazyglasslady Жыл бұрын
So this is one of the first videos I made and I have changed a few things . no you just need to put enough resin on so that the glass window panes are covered with resin and touching all the glass that is on top.But what i do is set everything up then pour the resin and I do like the glass to be shiny so i pour the resin over it. Some people would like the glass to stay frosted like real sea glass so they pour around it. The only drawback from pouring resin over glass is it makes it more translucent. so if you have a very light color like pink sometimes if you pour resin over it will not be very visible. I just did another large window and the video comes out on Friday. I hope that answers your questions. feel free to ask anything.

@@dally4905 In this video I put the resin down 1st then the glass on top of it. This was one of my 1st videos. now I usually put the glass down 1st then either pour the resin around it or over top. You can do it any way you like . Some people like the glass to be shinny, I do and that is why I pour the resin over it the resin makes it shinny. Some people like it to be more like true sea glass which is frosted, so they either put the resin down 1st and glass on top or they pour the resin around it. sometimes the glass will move a little and you can use a toothpick to push it back in place. Now as long as you have it on a level flat surface after everything is poured it should not move. Having said that I still think its a good idea to go back and look at the project after about 20 min or so and make sure nothing has shifted. If it has you can still push back with a toothpick. Now this tumbled glass is translucent and when you pour resin over it it becomes more translucent. The lighter the color ( such as a pink) the more translucent it becomes and sometimes if you pour resin over a light pink as opposed to pouring around it, it may be more difficult to see. I hope that helps. I am happy to answer any questions.

Maybe this is a crazy question but can you use a hair dryer to get the bubbles out? Your work is so pretty and I would love to try this project.
@crazyglasslady
@crazyglasslady 2 жыл бұрын
You could but the only problem is that air that comes out of the blow dryer is so strong it may blow the resin up over the frame or off the canvas also it will blow the glass around even some heat guns are strong i now prefer the kitchen torch. Someone want suggested one of those long lighters that you used to light a grill you can get up at the Dollar tree for $1.25 I’ve not tried it though

@@dawnfuhrman1516 Well I have done all sorts of crafting all my life. I was involved in Girl scouts for years. Wish I had some grandkids to do crafts with. Right now I am just experimenting with and learning more about all types of glass art. I only suggested the dollar tree lighter if you were trying to think of ways to cut costs otherwise I really like the kitchen torch. I was nervous about it at first but it make things so much easier.

All resin will eventually yellow you can do things to slow it down. Any of my resin projects that I have in the house and some are over 3 years old have not yellowed . the 3 I have out side in the florida heat have yellowed.

@@crazyglasslady: So you live in Florida. That is good to know since Florida's heat is an issue. I have used E6000 on many glass projects. After a while it does get brittle (the E6000) and will fall apart. The E6000, it seems, does not yellow from the sun though. I love your project and will definatly try it. Since you are in Florida you should go to the McIntosh Festival. It is a GIANT craft show. The Micanopy Festival is 1 week later. ✌🏻♥️

I have a question about the resins you use. I am getting ready to do a window and was wondering which has the best UV resistance as I want to put it in my garden where it will be exposed to the elements. With so many products out there it gets rather confusing when you're a beginner. Plus I do not want to use resin over the whole window only where I am using tiles crushed glass and other trinkets so would I use a clear silicone around the edges of the area I want to resin to keep it from flowing onto the rest of the window?
@crazyglasslady
@crazyglasslady 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Penny so I have been using the brand called Art resin alot. Honestly if it is going to be outside in the direct sunlight even if it has UV resistance it will yellow over time .I have used a few different resins and I have a video where I tested it in the direct sunlight Art resin and clear cast 7000 yellowed the least After that video ended I put them all back out in the Florida sun for another 3 months ( Direct sunlight ) and they still held up the best but there was some yellowing. the ones I kept inside are fine. I am wondering if you could attach the crushed glass and trinkets another way. The clear silicone you would see if you tried to use as a barrier now you could attach the trinkets with it unless the window could be seen from both sides and may look bad from the back. So if you really want to use resin you may be able to create a barrier with painters tape. To see what I mean look at this video where I used painters tape to divide the water from the sky and keep different color resins seperate I believe I took it off after 2 hours. kzbin.info/www/bejne/ipnKd3lqn7V-gas So there are a lot of stain glass artists out there who use different glues to attach the stain glass to the glass . I think if I were you I would practice on an old glass picture frame first. I have also used CLEAR SEAL LIQUID NAILS to attach glass to glass and you could not see it behind the glass when it dries. Watch this video from beginning to end where I use liquid nails. At the very end I pull out and old seahorse project where I put silicone behind it and you will see what that looks like also. I also show what the liquid nails looks like behind the glass. kzbin.info/www/bejne/ipSXZ3psodSnm9U I hope this helps in you decision. But please practice on a old picture frame first!

@@crazyglasslady Thank you! I use DAP Auto/Marine to adhere glass pieces to my outdoor windows and it has held up with them being in all kinds of weather in PA and has never yellowed. We built a tall covered (roofed) trellis for the window to be hung in which gets more late afternoon sun but is semi shaded most of the day. I have never incorporated crushed glass/small beads and thought resin might be the way to go. I will definitely watch the video and appreciate your feedback!
