Epson 1400 1430 1390 l1800 Printhead Change or clean

For Epson cartridge based system
Press ink button
When in the load cart position unplug
For tank based l1800 type send nozzle check to printer when the print head first moves to the left pull plug out in the middle of print
Remove plastic door all together
Look for two plastic clips on print head right side, rotate door up out of the way of ribbon cables
Hook behind cartridge bank connector and unsnap plastic clips allowing the removal of the cartridge connectors on the printer
Unplug ribbon cable
Remove 3 screws from the print head
Remove two ribbon cables

Thank you so much for taking the time and for sharing this with us. I really appreciate it. I had done this before .. well about 7 years ago and forgot the steps.. I think I burned the decoder (according to an online tech) but I have another printer which I decided to swap their printheads .. so yeah .. your video is very helpful. Thank you.

What did it do to make you think the decoder was burned

@@sethdanenberg4978 Ok.. so I have the continuous ink system.. one of the lines broke and leaked ink .. the printer would power on and the cartridges compartment would go back and forth just like every time I turn it on.. but then when it get to the ready position, the ink light would come on and stay solid lit. I did everything I could think of .. cleaned, wiped did manual ink printhead cleaning with a syringe pump and even replaced the cartridges but nothing worked. when I explained it to the tech..she said the ink must've gotten to the connectors and the printhead has to be replaced. I opened it last night after watching your video and BINGO! she was right .. connectors strips were soaked. I do have another identical printer which I am in the process of swapping parts and hopefully that works. will let you know how it goes though.

@@sethdanenberg4978 So, This is my second reply as an update.. like I had mentioned before .. the flexible cable connection was soaked so I replaced the whole thing with one from an identical printer I had sitting there for parts, but when I did .. the printer wouldn't even come on!! but when I put the old printhead when is supposed to be burnt.. it powers up but I get the solid red ink light. thats weird .. I swapped them a few times same results .. I was really disappointed and dont know why it wont turn on.. I put both printers aside and now I'm using my old Artisan 1430. Please let me know if you have any idea . Thank you.

@@yemarican That print is most likely no good it may have fried the main board on the printer. When you turn the printer on listen closly to the back of the printer for a very quiet beeping noise

I don't have the solution to soak the print head in. what else can I use to soak it in?

Simple green and distilled water 50/50

Any reason for pulling vs pushing the ink?

Pushing is very effective for clearing tough clogs but it is highly likely it will delaminate the print head and render is garbage. Pulling is slower but safer
