I've never heard of Neat. Does it cost much? Being on disability & a tight budget, I can't afford to pay a lot. But if there is just a one-time download purchase fee for the app in its basic form, I suppose it is a lot more affordable than purchasing a whole new scanner! (Or having to pay yet another "low monthly fee.") I'm getting "monthly fee" & "for the low price of just one cup of coffee a day"ed right into the poor-house! (I'm a tea drinker! 😆) Especially when I only use my scanner once or twice a year to upload tax information to a shared google Drive folder with the tax accountants. Does it work with all Raven scanner models? Mine isn't a pro version. If it's an affordable option, the only concern I would have is that my scanner would randomly reboot when saving. I am not a programmer, so I am shooting in the dark, but I wonder if it connecting to another network would that fix this issue? Does it work for Canadian customers. (Raven wasn't very fond of us Canucks! Lol 😜)

ProTip: ScanSnap can do long scans. You have to hold down the blue scan button for 5 second until it turn orange. That will indicate long scan mode. Then scan the long document.

To the best of my understanding, it is advisable to exercise caution when considering the usage of the RAVEN Scanner. It has come to my attention that the company has ceased its operations quietly and is no longer in business. Moreover, there are indications that the cloud service on which this scanner relies will be discontinued in the coming months. As a consequence, the scanner's functionality will be completely halted, as it is entirely dependent on this cloud service for scanning operations. Notably, even the Raven desktop software lacks the capability to scan to a local computer; it exclusively supports cloud services. Consequently, in the event that web support is terminated, there is a possibility that your investment in this device may result in a situation where you possess a relatively expensive paperweight incapable of scanning to any destination.
@RomanDoes Жыл бұрын
yep, that's what everyone is talking about. Really curious what Raven will do with the scanner hardware and if they will unlock it in any way
@huckaday Жыл бұрын
That is why I am here! I'm looking for a new scanner to replace my Raven (1st gen). I deserved it. I had broken my own rule of never buying an expensive (for me) "1st gen" item from a new/unknown company until the bugs had been worked out. I should've known better. But it had everything I needed at that time and was marketed quite well. At first, I loved it. It was easy to use, and I didn't need to use another machine/app to save, edit, and/or upload a scan to the cloud. This saved a ton of time. It was awesome! Until it wasn't. After a few "updates," it started to randomly shut off and then re-boot. Usually, after I had pressed "save" or "update," etc. After an edit, or a naming of a document, etc. There were a few "signs" of what was to come, right from the start. It had features for use in the US only. But was sold, full price, to all. It was like going international was an afterthought or something. Small but annoying things such as not being able to enter my mailing address into my profile on the Raven website, because I am in Canada, & not having the faxing capability outside of the US, for example, was odd. Especially when it wasn't ever rectified, even years after. Not a good sign. I also found them to be unorganized and almost treated me like I was trying to scam them when I called support. Before they believed me & finally decided to send another machine, I had to print out and send them proof of purchase from Amazon, send multiple videos, photos, etc, of the problem occurring to a few different people. And on top of sending a report directly from the machine, I also had to recreate the issue while they were on the phone, on top of my sending an additional video catching it rebooting. They didn't try anything to fix it. (I didn't think they could tbh) FINALLY they sent another machine. It was like they didn't believe it possible that there was such an issue. They did eventually send me a replacement. They sent 2, actually, and I was honest and sent one back! Lol (they had no idea they sent 2) But when the replacement did the exact same thing, I almost wish I hadn't! Lol Troubleshooting was weird. It wasn't as if I wasn't returning the original one & was trying to get another machine! It wasn't a normal "troubleshooting" call. It was kind of insulting, to be honest. Needless to say, I didn't want to go through it all again when the 2nd replacement machine did the exact same thing, so I just kept rebooting.... and with my health issues also adding to the delays, my taxes have been submitted late, twice. So I am going to try to make sure I do my research before choosing my next expensive machine! So here I am!! Thank you so much for taking the time to create this video! I'm going to watch the rest of it now. (Fastforwarding through the Raven parts, probably! Lol) You may want to add a note/update to tell viewers to NOT purchase a Raven machine now. (Even a used one!) It actually is a shame because it had potential. I had hoped the newer machines and the company had worked those beginner bugs out. I guess I'll never find out now!

What do you think about the Epson Workforce ES-400 II? did you ever consider this one at its price point?
@RomanDoes Жыл бұрын
It's practically the same machine as RR600 just without a screen. My purpose was to go computer free route for scanning and ability to select scan folder before I press scan. It helps me organize faster and lets different people use it without ever thinking of opening up their work stations. So if you are scanning while sitting at a computer, ES400 might do it.

@@RomanDoes Thanks for the reply. Yesterday we actually had just received the Raven from Amazon only to find out it was not likely to be supported once we started setting it up, so we're sending it back. After a whole lot of looking yesterday, I'm going to attempt to order an Epson DS-C480W, since it seems to check the boxes of having scan to email, scan to cloud storage services, and claims to be PC-free. I am thinking it should be similar to the Epson DS-790WN that I saw mentioned in the comments in terms of not requiring a computer, but a more compact version with a lower price point. I almost went with the ScanSnap, but from what I could tell, you still need a computer to set up some of the features like scan to email as a template profile, and it wasn't clear if that functionality was available yet on a Chromebook or Mobile. I think it may be possible that they have developed this ability or are in the process of doing so, but I didn't want to gamble on it. I just want to be able to access all of the settings on the device itself, and although I'm a bit nervous about setting up the email server, I think it is still better to not have to rely on a cloud service like Raven or ScanSnap that may not always be future proof, as Raven has taught us the hard way, and finally, I feel like I can trust the Epson brand. So we'll see...
@RomanDoes Жыл бұрын
Thanks for sharing! Yeah, if anyone buying Raven now, they should send it back even if Amazon sends it free of charge. I anticipate all units will be bricked by the end of the year, but keeping my fingers crossed. I will definitely try that same Epson unit as you got when time comes. I'm just not in rush as I have a temp backup.

I also needed replacement rollers for my current scanner
