Simple...like everything else VW (and other auto manufactures do) to save money, The wire they use maybe 12 inches for all 4 connectors compared to maybe 10 feet of very high quality wire in this EQT kit. Just like older style switches replaced with capacitative 'touch controls" not because they're better (they're not) but because it's cheaper to manufacture and involves much less wire to boot making installation cheaper (for them) and more way expensive for the customer if they ever have to be replaced, it's a win win for them.

This is one of the most underrated 'mods' you can do. Dave's a genius for coming up with this while at EQT. My idle is butter smooth compared to before.. and single hex cap bolts to remove the coil packs?? what a DREAM! Thanks for the DIY walk through! Even if you're stock, do this, makes life so much easier and properly chassis grounds the coil packs with thicker gauge wire that's far better insulated. Great stuff from EQT

The reason for the triangular cross section of the bolt is to prevent it from vibrating out on its own because it widens the overall diameter slightly, making an extra tight fit. It's quite common (although often oval shaped instead of triangular) in automotive bolts and effectively replaces thread lock for frequently removed parts like these coils.

One thing you didn't show was where to find the Part # for the coils connector which is pretty inportant because EQT sells 2 different styles of this grounding kit...and you HAVE TO know prior to ordering so you purchase the correct Grounding Kit I"ve looked at the EQT site and they warn "Customers who fail to verify their coil pack connector and purchase the incorrect unit will not be eligible for refund/return" also I couldn't find that info on their site either other than the 2 P/N's beginning with #4DO or #8KO...

When inserting the new ground pin, I'm stuck dead in the water. Any tips? In the video, you just say it needs a little pressure, and voila it's fully seated. I can only get the pins maybe halfway into the connecter, certainly not seated fully.
@EVERYTHINGcpo Жыл бұрын
My recommendation is to look at the pins and make sure nothing is bent or over extended in a way that is preventing it from going in all the way. Also check the place where the wire is crimped to the pin and make sure that isn’t bent into a shape that is preventing insertion. You can clean it up with a pair of pliers if needed.

Great video! An auto shop I took my MK7 GTI to when my IS20 turbo blew, completely stripped out the block threads by tightening the ignition coil bolt too much. They never told me either. I found out after checking stuff weeks later after I picked my car up. Pissed me off to be honest. Since then, I have heli-coiled all of those spots, and haven’t had an issue since. I have a video on that if anyone wants to check that out on my channel.

@@ness8774 That's what I need to know too. The EQT site states"Customers who fail to verify their coil pack connector and purchase the incorrect unit will not be eligible for refund/return" but they don't tell you where that P/N is located. I think it's on the underside of the connector meaning you have to remove ALL the connectors just to remove one connector cover to find the P/N.
